I've seen a lot of mentions of @ned s sad post today where it was announced 70% of his staff were laid off.
My heart goes out to @ned and his staff. Laying off decent and hard working staff is the absolute worst feeling in the world but as a boss, it is one of those things that comes with the territory. I wish them all well and am sure they won't be unemployed for long.
When I joined here, I looked at the company structure and always thought there was too much tech and not enough business personel in there. Pushing new limits of tech and creating a new future is one thing but even in that brave new world, humans and business remain a common factor and that require more traditional model to retain stability firstly and progress secondly. Teams need balance and if anything can be learned by other crews in this infant industry from Steem inc's sad news is that they cannot afford to ignore these traditional disciplines and more traditional funding methods.
But what of SMTs on which we pin so much hope ? Are we going to see long delays, or even worse, their abandonment?
I hope not, if Steem Inc are rationalising and economising then they must concentrate on their core business and vision and that, in my opinion should be SMTs. Simply because so many indie developers have worked hard on their promised arrival.
If Steem Inc don't get them released on time, it might well be the end of a lot more careers than just the Steem 70%.
A final word to @ned . Reach out to the community you birthed. There are so many talented experts in the field of SMEs and finance here. Advice costs nothing. Talk. That's what communities do and its what makes them what they are by definition.
round table live streams weekly ftw! :)

I agree, or even if he just gets a focus group together with a few key (and not cronie) individuals Steem is bigger than Ned and needs to be seen to be bigger than Ned.

focus group is the absolute minimum right now for sure, maybe they get to stay in for a period of time/term -- based on their results in a certain timeframe, hey, we are talking about keeping the lights on here in some ways right, everything is on the table i think.

Sadly, he already said in reply to one of the comments on his post that SMTs will in fact be delayed. He didn't say by how much.

Hi Indigo, I hadn't seen that. Thats very bad news as I know at least one Dapp that said they will go the ERC-20 route if Steem SMTs are delayed.
