I WOULD LIKE TO SEE STEEMIT CHANGE ....FAST

in steem •  7 years ago

All these months I have been on steemit, trying to stay involved and personally assess the platform. Here is what I see so far.

  1. However much one wishes to separate STEEM from STEEMIT, it’s not possible to do so. This fate should be accepted.
  2. Greater focus on the STEEMIT platform needs to occur and needs to occur now.

There is no such thing as stagnation in life. You either grow or wither. Where is the platform improvements that we have been waiting for?
I cannot find a good reason to invest in this platform given its current performance. I couldn’t care less about how many new accounts there are. That is the least important factor. The most important factor is active sustained participation. A customer base that can see a future here. That is not happening. It’s not happening because the lack of systems ability to appreciate good writers and good content. Yes you can invest a few thousand dollars and start making a bit more money here. The return is worth only for the whales who vote for each other. And they by themselves cannot sustain the platform. On the other hand not every 10th person can make even 10 dollars on a post. It might have taken them a few hours or days of work to develop the content. Why should they stay? Lack of recognition is never welcome in any business.
So where will STEEM be in 5 years?
In the few months here, I have not seen a SINGLE improvement for the user. More troubles have cropped up because of hacking. While FB develops an advertiser base, an internal market for sale of goods and services, News and other stuff, STEEMIT HAS STOOD STAGNANT.
Why can’t I log into STEEMIT every morning ad also get News, local, regional and international?. That might keep me interested.
Why is there no market place for sale of goods with STEEM?
why are there no categorized sections of posts so I can easily access posts that might interest me ?why can’t a user have a photo album? Why can’t you post short videos here directly and easily?
Some have argued that advertisers are not needed here. That is so short sighted that you can only measure it on a Planck scale.
FB has a great mobile presence. STEEMIT does not. So STEEMIT Will be exactly just here in 5 years with millions of new accounts that will come and go. The investors will leave. New investments won’t happen. At least not from this guy. How long can people wait? Not long because by the time STEEMIT tries to catch up, fave of social media would have changed into AI and virtual reality combo media.
So STEEMIT DEVELOPERS, get on with it or you will mis the bus by a few million miles.

@nedspeaks Well said and unfortunately I pretty much agree with your conclusions. I'm just a few months into my exploration of Steemit and the longer i'm here, the more it seems there's no where to go - if that makes any sense.

In the few months here, I have not seen a SINGLE improvement for the user.

This sentence describes one of the most serious issues with the Steemit platform, and you are 100% correct that there is really nothing being done to remedy it. As far as I know there have been no new functions or improvements to existing capabilities - ever...

To highlight only one of my "issues" with functionality, the formatting tools (markdown-editor) are HORRIBLE!!! It reminds me of the old typewriter style word processors that were just barely better that hand writing on lined paper - or worse yet Word Perfect... AAHHHH (me pulling my hair out)... How hard would it be to incorporate Google Docs or MS Word.? With all the brain power floating around in here, I' pretty sure it could be done.

The following is a paragraph taken from page 6 of the Steem whitepaper:

Steem is designed around a relatively simple concept: everyone’s meaningful contribution to the community should be recognized for the value it adds. When people are recognized for their meaningful contributions, they continue contributing and the community grows. Any imbalance in the give and take within a community is unsustainable. Eventually the givers grow tired of supporting the takers and disengage from the community.

I quoted that to also shed light on the underlying problem (what I think at least) The developers obviously recognized the potential to abuse the system, but it doesn't appear there were any safeguards to prevent what we see happening - where a majority of the reward pool is consistently awarded (taken) by a small percentage of users. The fish in a pond analogy is well suited and accurately describes how big fish will eat all the food and if little fish get in their way, they'll eat them too. (I could give examples of that actually happening)

I think we all know what the problems are, the question is what can we do about them - if anything.? Everyone should take a good look at where the most influential (valuable) votes are coming from and where they're going on a consistent basis. Serious scrutiny should also be directed at just how much SP is wrapped up in all the bots "swimming around" / bid bots, curation bots, upvote bots, etc. etc. I was amazed when I started adding it all up - I don't have all the numbers yet but I think the total amount of SP just in bots is greater than the bottom 80% of users.

Sorry for the rant bro...
I guess one good thing is - my conversation with @doc.hodes led me here...

Dave, after reading your excellent reply the thing that flashed through my head was a pyramid scam. In many ways I think I can see attributes of it here. Thanks for a great reply

I hear you, bro.

I am not on facebook because I have no desire to share my privacy or my intellectual property for free. Plus I have better things to do with my time.

The whole whale thing was my first concern and it is still my concern. If these whales are whales because they have grown organically through publishing their intellectual property than kudos but if they bought their position and power then I will go find something else to do.

I've published beautiful photographs that no one ever sees (0-views) because they are only visible in the new category for literally seconds before they fall off into oblivion. So I do not intend on publishing anything of real substance unless I can be rewarded in someway for my time.

I agree

If enough Of Us Support Each Other We Can Grow And Slowly Over Time Increase Or Positions...I help you grow and the you get stronger and then help me grow. one on one would take forever but a community of people could work...The https://SteemThat.com Movement Saving Steemit from disaster.

Upvoted and resteemed.

Thankyou so much for your kindness

Perception Is Reality And I Agree With Much Of What You Said. Busy.org as the main entry portal is doing some great things for sure. I'm hoping Smart Media Tokens will help as there will have to be full open documentation to implement these. I have brought many of things issues up before and been told that it could not be built so much that I built https://steemthat.com in just 2 short months by myself.

So a team of developers should be able to build out steemit.com if they want to on the block chain. If they can't because it is too difficult then maybe they should separate things like I am going to do with Steemish.com and SteemThat.com. Far Too Often People Over Complicate Simple Tasks And Get Tunnel Vision. I hope they can create an Environment that allows all users to feel valued.

The Proof Of Stake The Way It Is Being Used Here Is similar to Big Governments And Large Corporation Having All Of The Control And Everyone else working and trying to get a piece of the pie. This is why communities like https://SteemThat.com are needed and should be supported. These communities can leverage members small power into a collective unit and effect change for the minnow ecosystem.

Plus we can organize so much data about steemit.com into one place so that users can have the same access to all of the tools that others have. Best Wishes.

You are doing amazing that’s. That is why I joined your platform. Have you taken it up as a full time operation.?. I hope you succeed beyond your imagination

Thank you I did see your profile the other day and I think you got some SteemThat Tokens as a bonus for joining. You Might Have been Member number 100 I think which was kind of cool. I am not full time yet. I still work a full time job and then work on the website & tools or reviews and now trying to find a server we can afford to handle the traffic we get. No shared hosts can handle 5000 Uniques and 100,000 page views a day.

This traffic isn't daily but has happened several times before we upgraded servers. Even after the upgrade we are going down a few times per week due to cpu usage and exceeding all limits..lol . I think it will blow up soon and I'm trying to get ready.

I'll private message you there and give you a link where you can also now post on SteemThat.com if you are interested. You get a flat amt of SteemThat Tokens and 50/50 share of content access fees. Plus a share of comments. We might add likes and shares but people should do this if they like the content anyway. It is a simple click and we pay for work performed. It is beta and no guarantees it will ever be worth anything but is is ultra fair. I think we can tie in Smart Media Tokens. I'm going to try and write a post about it all soon. I fell asleep typing earlier..lol I had been working 18 hour days for 2 months.

I will be very interested. Thanks for considering. I like Steemit and I want to see it saved. It is the only place I write. I will not miss it but I hope the platform does well. My email is [email protected]

I feel ya... but I get the feeling you would like learning about steem's new "Smart Media Tolkens".

Luke, I recently joined steemthat.com developed by @binkley. I am excited about his project and through that community, I will be indulging in smart media tokens. Take a look, you might be interested.
