I just got my first payment from Steem: wow, it really works!!

in steem •  8 years ago  (edited)

Lately I have managed to accumulate $16.78 STEEM Dollars in my wallet in payments from my more successful 50/50 posts (although I also made a few posts with 100% payout in Steem Power). Today, as I noticed that the current value of SBD was 99% of the USD, I decided to try to withdraw it for the first time. I followed these instructions by @cryptofiend and used the excellent BlockTrades service to transfer SBD from my Steem Wallet to my Bitcoin wallet. The whole operation took less than five minutes and I didn’t even have to register on BlockTrades!

My reaction of incredulity and happiness at the smooth and successful withdrawal of STEEM Dollars

$16.76 STEEM Dollars were converted into 0.02262576 BTC. This amount of bitcoins equals to USD $16.24 at the current price of Bitcoin. So, $16.78 SBD into $16.24 USD – not bad at all!!

If I was feeling enthusiastic about STEEM and Steemit before, now I am a true believer!

Good for you, I can still remember my first time...

One's first time is very special and hardly can be forgotten…

Wait, we are still talking about Steemit, right?

Steemit?

I thought that was her name, no?

Hey!!! You are very good man!! How hour a day you "work" here?
Im a starter and i dont know to much how it work

I am trying to write 3–5 posts every week. Ideally one post a day, Monday to Friday. But it doesn’t always go according to this plan, especially on days when I’m too tired after work or out of ideas. Writing one post usually doesn’t take more than one hour.

And then I am trying to promote my latest post for 24 hours in 2-hours intervals on the relevant channels in Steemit Chat. It doesn’t take more than five minutes at a time. I am being careful not to spam in the chat.

Good luck to you on Steem!

Thank you soo much!
I wish more luck to you,
And i want to be good like you ;)

Thanks for this tip, I will try it, I've not ventured onto Steemit Chat yet.

I'll spend a couple hours daily on steemit, either interacting or working on posts.

Soon, I'll do a post about how I make a post, so keep an eye out for that!

The best!

Wow, that’s some impressive company of respectable Steemians I somehow ended up among, on that rank list! Thank you for the work you are doing and for honouring my post with your attention.

Nice! It's always a good feeling when you have tangible proof of the rewards from your hard work. Congratulations! Relish the feeling :)

Oh, and just a minor point, it's SBD (STEEM-Backed Dollars) or SD. STD has, well, a different negative connotation ;)

Oh, haha, of course! Thank you for this correction, @jedau! I have now edited my post. (So embarassing!)

And SD has a different negative connotation for me too. (Swedish politics, don’t ask :))

Don't mention it, man! Oh, I didn't know, sorry about that. I guess SBD is a good middle ground :)

that's always good to hear. i'm really excited about the idea of sharing value between each other. glad your experience was straight forward.

Very good post! Thanks for sharing this, it's very interesting! @oleg326756 Followed and voted! You follow me @Sandra16

It really is a special moment when you earn your first steem dollars. :)

Yes, totally! I think that withdrawing my Steem Dollars and converting them into Bitcoin somehow made it more tangible for me. Before, it was hard to grasp what STEEM and Steem Dollars were. Some kind of pretend toy currency, maybe, like the one you use to buy power-ups in mobile games? Now, seeing the number in my Bitcoin wallet, knowing that I can spend it anywhere in the world or convert to some other currency (crypto or fiat) makes it so much more real for me!

Congratulations, I'm happy for you. I just joined this community today, I still have a lot to learn! I hope someday to have that happiness that you have today. Follow and Upvote. Cheers

Thank you so much for your support! I joined only three weeks ago, so just like you I’m a beginner here. Or, in Steem lingo, a minnow. :)

I will be following your path on Steem too and I hope it will be successful!

Glad it worked. I've been using Blocktrades a lot since then and it always works perfectly and fast!

I agree, it’s great. Thank you once again for writing up that great guide on how to use Blocktrades! Without it I probably wouldn’t have dared to convert SBD into BTC. Or I would have gone to Poloniex, but it would be more troublesome and definitely “too technical” for most of the mainstream users of Steemit.

You're welcome:)

Congratulations ! Good luck!

Thank you very much!

That's AWESOME. Keep it up and GOOD LUCK! Kämpa, kämpa kämpaaa 💪🏻

Tack, Fadi!!

I'm to scared to start the process. I want too but nervous I'll mess it up. Well done you for managing it :)

Thank you, Karen. But the process is actually more simple and straightforward than its description. It’s also less complicated than one might imagine, reading the instructions. Once you actually do it, you are almost surprised at how few steps it takes, and how easy every step is. Just try with a small amount the first time and I’m sure you’ll find it to be a cake walk. Good luck! :)

awesome!

Isn’t it? ;)

Congratulations well done. You are an example, indeed

Grats! :)

Thanks! :)

Now check out something like a Bitpay card. :) Debit card you can charge up with bitcoin. Then you can buy anything. You also get different conversion rates if you use www.poloniex.com, or www.bittrex.com, but blocktrades is definitely the easiest to use. :)

Steem On!

Yes, I am using Poloniex to trade cryptocurrencies and to sell Monero and ZCash that I mine. However, I don’t want to go through the whole process of transferring, waiting, placing an order, waiting, checking, transfering, and waiting again every time I simple want to withdraw some Steem Dollars into my Bitcoin Wallet. BlockTrades save me from all this headache, that’s why I like it so much. :)

And yes, I’ve already considered getting myself a Bitcoin debit card. I’ve looked into BitPay, e-Coin and Xapo. However, as I am more of a holder than spender, when it comes to Bitcoin, I think I am okay for now. If I need to sell a share of my Bitcoins fast, I could do it via Coinbase or Kraken and then withdraw fiat onto my ordinary bank account in Sweden. But I am sure that in the near future there will be more choice of crypto debit cards to choose from. Heck, maybe our mainstream consumer banks will offer them!

I will be talking with @greekcouple on Skype this afternoon. They are getting a Bitcoin debit card from Xapo. I will be curious to learn about their experiences and impressions of it.

You should understand the distinction between Steemit vs. Steem -- a common misconception.

Steem (or SBD) is a database and has the same name as the underlying token used in the blockchain which rewards you for your content based on how other users vote on your posts.

Steemit is just one interface that displays the content that is stored on the blockchain.

Thank you for this clarification, @complexring! I think I've got it now. :) I'm going to edit my post and its title accordingly.

great jobs! congrats

Thank you! Your posts are an inspiration to me!

Thank you for your support, @sandra16! Good luck here on Steem, I hope you’ll enjoy the experience and find it worthwhile!
