Hello beautiful. Hope your day has been beautiful. Character is your personality that people can see through your actions based on your intentions especially how honest and reliable you are.
If there is someone who is of a very good character, you will see that they are always reliable and truly honest. They exude fidelity, contentment, and a strong all round foundational truth.
Being true to character means your actions reflect your beliefs, and that your beliefs are based on CORRECT life principles such as integrity, honesty, respect, and reliability.
According to the Scripture,
Christian character includes the pursuit of truth, Godliness, righteousness, love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, patience, perseverance, meekness, humility, self-control, compassion, thankfulness, forgiveness, contentment, and unity.
These may seem just too much for one person to do and be, however it takes years to cultivate and master these characteristics. No one can become perfect.
Here are a few things a person can do to cultivate a good character...
■ Be known as a promise keeper.
When it comes to character, your work is your bond, the things you say must matter and they must be relevant enough that you will be held liable by them.
You cannot say you will do a thing and when the time comes, you are nowhere to be found and even when you are found, you will find every excuse not to do what you have said you will do.
If people cannot hold you to your word, your character will suffer a fatal flaw. Your word will not matter to people, when you talk, they will not listen because you are know as someone who speaks and cannot keep his word.
■ Be consistent in your dealings with others.
In life you will inevitably deal with different people from all walks of life who will deal with you in business, in love, in different settings and they will hold you by how you deal with them. You must learn to be fair in your dealings.
■ Audit your decision.
You will make a lot of decision as you go along in life. You must engage in tough conversations but laced with empathy.
Learn to nurture meaningful relationships through good and challenging time, this is a lifetime tool that will never go out of use.
■ Exhibit humility in achievement and success.
When you win, learn to stay humble, learn to be nice to be who are not up to you, no task is too small for you to undertake and no person is too ordinary or extraordinary to extend a hand of help to.
Yes we know that a good name is more desirable than great riches, however a good name and great riches is the perfect combination, so strive to have a good name even when you have great riches.
Your character must lead you to ask some probing questions like who am I? What can I do to make the lives of others better?
If my family, friends and colleagues were asked to give a statement under oath in court about the strength of my character, what would they say? Would they be able to talk about my good values and the positive contributions I have made to the society?
Would their testimonies be strong enough to convince people that I am a person with good character? How do I quantify the importance I have placed on really having a good name and the character I have to back it up?
Am I living ethically in all areas of my life such as the ways I work with others and treat others in the world?
In conclusion, your reputation is what others think of you; your character is what and/or who you truly are. Reputations can actually be manipulated but character can be developed and maintained well.
