I see why minnows are complaining about not being recognized. As a dolphin, I have experienced this as well. Spending hours on creating content only to have it go unrecognized is frustrating.
However, I will continue. I reinvested 98% of my earnings in Steem Power, therefore I'm committed to the long term success.
I'm open to assisting whales, dolphins, and minnows in anyway possible. I want to work with others to host meetups for Steem in the Greater Metro Atlanta area.
I'll keep on creating content to improve this community. One of my posts is bound to grab their attention, eventually. I keep waiting patiently.
Sincerely,
A Hopelessly Romantic Dolphin
I think part of the problem is the amount of copypasta right now, so when people see an article like your excellent "Are You A Slave" article - they may assume it's not original.
3 "solutions" come to mind.
1 = Spammers getting their asses kicked. The fight back has begun. Behind the scenes I've seen some very encouraging developments.
2 = Making your posts more personal/timely so they stand out as being original. Probably a few ways to achieve this such as discussing trending topics within your nichce, as well as perhaps using more personal photos.
3 = Get more followers. Easier said than done of course, but I imagine over time, if you consistently post unique, original content, you will organically develop a loyal following who will reward you. In fact, I'm banking on that happening myself.

That's what I've been doing....writing about personal topics, and including real photos of me in my posts. You'll find a lot of photos of me peppered through most of my posts, in fact (there's even one of my wedding, but everyone except our officiant has their backs to the camera in that one, to protect their privacy). I use clip art, too, but I'm not shying away from including personal photos, either.
I also write on personal things....weird things that have happened to me, things I do that are outside the "norm" of society, and my opinions/beliefs on things. I've got a lot of odd tales to tell that can be backed up with photographic evidence. :)
In my two weeks on Steemit, I've developed a small following of people who give me very positive comments on my writing, and with whom I enjoy interacting. A couple of my posts have even done really well, $$$-wise. While not every post has been a three-figure earner, nor do I expect them to be, it's nice when it happens, and I think it will happen more the more quality, relatable, and/or interesting content I post, and as long as I keep writing real things in my authentic voice.
I comment a lot, too, and (as you can see), my comments are sometimes almost as long as my posts. I think focusing on quality, original, sometimes personal content, and participating with others by following them and commenting on their content, as well as upvoting good content, is the key to eventually having a strong presence and equally strong income here. Plus, the more you participate, the more cool people you meet! :)

I was giving you friendly advice. I said your "Are You A Slave" article is excellent but that people might wrongly assume it's pasta, because they tar those sort of headlines with the same brush.
I salute you for creating original content. Comprende?

I don't expect to be noticed until my rep number is in the high 60s and my Steem Power is high enough to make a difference in curation. At that point, I'll be noticed by reputation, and can then leverage that into attention for my content. It seems sort of backwards, but that seems to be the way the platform is structured. You are almost there, with a great rep score. Soon, you'll be determining what trends instead of just commenting on what trends. :)

Anyone know the "technical" difference between a minnow, dolphin, and whale? Are there any concrete gauges by which to measure, or is the concept more abstract?
@pairmike, I've been blessed interacting with you lately, and I'll offer a little of my story. Last week Wednesday, I had 50-some followers, like you do now. Last Saturday it hit 100, and kept going up; and today it hit 150, and continued again. I have no real idea how this is happening, but here's a few things that I have been up to that may have played a role.
Sticking to what I'm good at. - Most of my posts that do well are garden and food related.
Consistency - Knowing how many followers are watching me encourages me to give them something everyday to digest. Often, it's a few things. Since many people most likely started following me because of my gardening and food posts, I try to make sure something along these lines is presented often.
Diversification - People have their favorite categories, which may have nothing to do with gardening or food. If I make some photography or fiction posts, people may get exposed to me who otherwise wouldn't.
Interaction - I answer replies and compliment good questions or points. Also, find others who are posting good material and comment on their excellent posts. Start building a relationship where others have not initiated it.
I know that you are already doing some of this, but thought I would mention it here. I like what you are up to, and your attitude about the whole deal. I too plan on being here to stay, and continuously attempt to improve.

Thanks for that Papa. You bring up a very good points. My primary interest lie around 2 broad topics, finance and music. I do like explaining things to others as well. I guess that is the teacher or coach in me.
Again, thanks for the input.

You are welcome. Just as you are willing to assist others, so am I. Like I said, I'm not sure how some of that happened, but if I had to guess...
