Dumpster diving

The practice of foraging in garbage that has been put out on the street in dumpsters, garbage cans, etc., for discarded items that may still be valuable, useful, or fixable.

Latest Update:

Been a little on the low side when it comes to diving lately as I did my 1 week liquid feast and wanted to avoid the obvious temptation of eating everything you find... but now I'm back hungrier and more passionate than ever!!!! :D

Why do I Dumpster Dive?

  • Save the abundance of food that is wasted and share it with the world...
  • Minimizing costs enabling me to be non dependent on Fiat and can Power Up 100%...
  • Shine a light to bring awareness on how much food is wasted with our current system...
  • Great regular exercise biking and carrying a shit load of food as well as a huge karma boost...

Thursdays Weekly Meet-ups:

We meet up on Thursdays in the middle of the city to share the food we've saved during the week. It's a great way to meet, connect and support each other. We meet between 6-7 pm at the same time as the decentralized farmers market that I've initiated!

I also invite friends over to share the abundance of food, been doing it for many years now I make sure to always introduce them to the Steem blockchain and what is has to offer!

dividerblue.png

I've got great plans for 2018 and beyond and I'm working hard to achieve it. The Steem blockchain is the perfect place to create positive change as it rewards individuals that contribute to the community and humanity at large. I am wholeheartedly dedicated and committed to this and my intention is to create solutions for today's problems, unite humankind once and for all. The seeds have been planted, let us grow together...

good post. some people eat to live and some live to eat.

It sickens me that people throw away useful, good food. Kudos to you for making us aware.

It's incredible to see so many pictures of perfectly good food that would have been destroyed if it wasn't for your efforts, such an honourable effort to go out and recover food like this to share out in the community helping the most needy out. Unfortunately this is an issue that is present around the world, mostly created by the bureaucratic nonsense that everything has to have an use by date as if people can not make their own informed decisions if the food is good to eat or not. I can understand it for foods that can make you very sick when they go bad, chicken, some meats, fish and seafood - but so much other food is wasted for the sake of a label that says it can't be used after a certain date - when it clearly can but people just throw it away because the date has passed.

Sneaky Ninja Attack! You have been defended with a 5.10% vote... I was summoned by @reko! I have done their bidding and now I will vanish...Whoosh

You good people like to care about each other.
success is always @ reko

a lot of food is thrown away when it's still useful, @reko has taken the initiative to save his finances by collecting various types of edible vegetables. salute for you @reko

Wow that is quite the haul, it really is shameful how much food goes to waste. I was thinking of signing up to get a box of veggies from a place called imperfect produce, this might make me take the plunge!

Ah man i wish these photos were shocking but after seeing this amount of food in the bin first hand its become a normal sight. its got difficult round where i am as supermarkets have decided people eating their waste isnt allowed, one place pours blue staining liquid all over everything to discourage, others put padlocks on the bins or have security come out and chase us away. this world is not right!

wow nice effort to save and use the idle things, good to see this

I felt sort of sick by the news that the current PTB want to limit food assistance for poor people here in the USA. You really illustrate that this country is so rich that so much gets wasted, and yet children are expected to go hungry. Thanks for doing your part.

i'm hungry now

Great post and nice work.

I have always been so touched by this work you and your team have been doing and today I decided to write an article dedicated to you guys. I have included so many stats that portrays the importance of your work. You can check it out on my blog, the latest article.

cool I do like the food accumulated buddy ;)

Whoa, people in your area seem to throw out a lot of good food, a waste indeed.

I love fruits and specially their different colors looks awesome 😍😍

Thats impressing, so you find all this in the containers?
I cant belive how much food that is wasted, its insane.

Goog! I like it! :)

Good for you man, it's such a shame to see so much food go to waste every single day! We have so many homeless people just here in the DFW area, that would be so fortunate to have some of that food that is thrown away on a daily basis! Our government could, and should, take care of its citizens a lot better than it does! With technology where it's at, there should not be one person going hungry in this country! I wish we had so many more people that were like you! Thank you!!!

awesome foods!! why are they being thrown away @reko? are they expired already? and is it safe to eat them?

I'm short of words to describe the service you do for humanity @reko, Thank you...thank you very much @reko ... You just demonstrated to me that I do not need to wait till I start farming before solving that hunger problem plaguing Africa. Thanks once again!

With all these findings, how many people can you feed on average?

Woah!!! I can't believe how much good stuff you find! I would expect maybe a few things unless you got lucky, but WOW! 😮

I really admire your effort to get those groceries that still valuable and can help others to enjoy food... those unfortunate ...

Maybe if you'd become a millionaire you can help a lot of people...

Thanks for your good heart...

our world now need to change our behaviours and use the economie ways befor we end in a black point where no comeback, love your post it has alot of meaning

Whoa amazing idea with the decentralized farmers market!! Brilliant! Always impressed with your dumpster diving finds! Those bananas don't look ripe enough to even make banana bread. Well done!!

I love your statistics

This is amazing! I'm so glad there are people out there like yourself that understand the real value of food and the extent to which we take it for granted.
Thanks for doing that and for sharing it all with us! Keep up the awesome work!!

Appreciated your effort to realize us Food Importance and point out that how we are wasting food for which we work hard. Keep it up It will help our environment too.

Cool stuff! Food waste is terrible, we as chefs must figure out new ways to reduce waste! Great post, will keep looking at your for ideas!

That’s smart. I might have to go in a dumpster or two now lol

This is insane. Makes me start to think what I can do with things in my own life. Thanks for sharing this. Re-steeming now!
