My Mother knows nothing about a Dollar, yet I explained Steem to her.

Making this post is not easy for me, because here I talk about my mom. And that is something emotional.

This morning, I got a flashback to a talk that I had with my mother, yesterday. It made me realize something, a strong belief. Let me tell you about my mother first.

She is a housewife and had no literal education. My home is on a mountain ridge in the beautiful place called Himachal in India, and being a housewife she has not travelled any other part of the world except few other mountain ridges, valleys and slopes of this state.

She doesn't know what a dollar is, so leave aside the Steem. But she asks me about my work everytime I call. My reply circulates around three words - slow, good, or fast. I say 'slow' when the online freelance tutoring work that I do is not available in abundance. And 'fast' when there is a huge influx of the work. From last two months, this work of mine has been slow and producing me almost zero money, and that is how I searched for Steem.

There is this problem of low cash in my bank account, and I am trying to manage these days, by cooking for myself, avoiding to not buy the things that are not really needed. In any case, the situation is going to change this month, because my freelance work will take pace this month. But till then I have to manage.

I joined here on 25th July 2017. And after a month,I have earned a fairly good number of reputation of 52(as of today ) and some Steem as well. Now I must tell you, I have no plan of cashing out my Steem, no matter how bad my financial situation is been for last two months. The reason is this talk I made with my mother yesterday.

I called my mother, as usual, she asked me about my work. Of course, if I don't present any money at home, and the fact that I had planned to shift to a new place, but I haven't yet, makes her doubt about amount of money I am earning. She knows not much about my work, except that I teach some stuff online. But the money shows itself right?

She worries about me, so I tried to explain about Steem to her. First I told her that just as we use Rupees in India, other countries use their respective currencies. I mentioned dollar, hoping that she would have heard it somewhere. Then I told her that I am putting my time on an work other than tutoring, which pays me in another currency.

I didn't mention the name Steem itself, but it wouldn't have mattered to her anyway, and she would never remember the word, because she can speak only Hindi and our native Pahari language.

But she understands economy a bit. I told her that I can't cashout the amount of currency that I make here, because if I keep it, and cash it out in future, its value will be higher, maybe 10 times or more. Currently it is nothing more than 20,000 rupees, but in future it will amount to lacs of rupees. I think that is when she felt relaxed, and that is how the talk about my work ended.

Realization

I love my mother, and with her, I always speak truth and what I really believe. I didn't realize it yesterday that how passionately I talked about Steem to her. But this morning when I recalled the talk, I realized that I really believe in Steem, it really gives me hope. Else my illiterate mother would not have relaxed a bit.

@jamesallen, perhaps I should have added that I love cooking for myself, and therefore it is not just to save money. I love self cooked food, and it is healthy as well. I appreciate you concern. Thanks!

I didn't think much about cooking. I was impressed with your attitude towards your mother and the thoughtful way you explained things to her.

Ok, thank you. :)
