STEEM......
What does it mean?
Why am I here?
Who brought me to this place?
Will I ever get my life back?
All of these questions and more I ask myself as I dive headlong into the world that is Steem.
From chatting nightly within active communities to see how their day was and what new idea's or posts have been created throughout the day, this platform can be a time consuming 'hobby'. I have great fun with the platform and really enjoy posting and sharing content with others and truly believe this platform has a great future.
Today, a new 'skin' was developed for Steemit and I really like the new features, however, the glitches and painfulness of posting over the past few weeks has diminished my faith in Steemit as a platform and I have shifted to Busy.org for most of my posting purposes.
Busy gives me a better preview when composing and I haven't had it freeze or reject a posting yet.
I still use Steemit.com to curate and comment on posts, though I am starting to use Busy more often.
Why, I hear you ask?
An initial DDoS attack shut the Steemit website down completely just over 2 weeks ago, and since then, there have been nothing but issues and glitches across the website. Many of the people in the communities I am active in have also commented on these glitches and I am worried what this holds for the platform and the price of STEEM in general.
New users coming to the platform, particularly those who are not all that proficient with technology, would be easily turned off by these glitches and the lack of ability to posts comments and posts in general. At times I have had to wait up to 2 minutes for a simple upvote to go through, only for it to fail. I have also seen a multitude of doubled up comments posted by users inadvertently.
My opinion is, if this platform is to go from strength to strength, and to further develop and engage new users and bring greater wealth, both monetary and intellectual, to STEEM, these glitches in the main website need to be fixed.
It is great to see other alternatives out there for users to access, however, the main company of Steemit needs to ensure a stable platform is in place to encourage the growth of the platform and crypto as a whole as it is the main access point for most, including new, users.
Recent responses from @steemitblog, @ned and @steemdev have been inadequate, to say the least. If you take a moment to check them out, you will see that there are many questions and pertinent statements made by serious users of the platform. Communication appears to be one of the major issues from the Steemit, inc. and as a company who depends on its users and attracting new users to the platform, clear and open communication is an integral component to ensuring users are confident and trust in the management of the platform. If these issues continue to plague Steemit, then I can not see the currency and attraction to the platform increasing dramatically any time soon.
Smart Media Token's could be a game changer for the platform and I hope that these major issues are addressed and fixed before SMT's come online next year.
I still believe in the power of STEEM and am 100% in, however, I am concerned that my resolve is not felt by many other users across the system and that they will leave in droves as long as the platform is difficult to use. It's time to pour some more resources into addressing these issues and quickly if the platform is to continue to grow and attract new users.
N.B. At the time of writing this I cannot comment using Steemit without it posting two comments and upvoting on posts is taking more than 30 seconds to transact. An the following is what my post looked like in Steemit after I had published in from busy.org
Thanks for reading and I would appreciate any comments you might have on this opinion piece.
Steem is keep moving forward and if I where to asked compare to other crypto out there steem dev team is the most active, in my opinion.

If there is anybody out there that remembers the first 2 years of Facebook, then they are sure to know the issues that Steemit is having are actually very minor. Btw, the Make Steemit Great Again hat is awesome.

Hear, hear. Even with the updates I'm still having issues. As you say any new adopters will be put off by this BS. They need to sort this out soon or its reputation will be ruined, people will take their Steem and leave.
I really hope that doesn't happen ,I love this place but of a competitor starts up that is valid there may be an exodus.

I don't think the SMT's would be affected by the glitches at all for the glitches seem to be limited to the website steemit. This is confirmed by the fact that esteem, busy.org, chainbb, and steemfollower to name a few are not only working but seem to be running faster than ever. Since most SMT applications will run on their own servers and be coded by their own teams they'll function or bug out on their own merits. Given the bugginess of steemit as of late that probably is a good thing for the SMT's.

The glitches such as commenting and upvoting are annoying, but I have faith that day by day Steemit will be a better place. I also voiced my frustrations, and have been trying (although a bit annoying) to get my posts through. Here's hoping to better times in the near future!
