Today I Used a Bitcoin ATM so That I Could Buy 100 STEEM - Seize the Opportunity!

in steem •  7 years ago  (edited)

In this post, I'll be covering the thought process behind this decision of finally making an investment on that blockchain that we've come to know and love called Steemit! This was a huge choice for me to make as I am not a day trader, and do not normally make investments like these. I'm no crypto expert, in fact I'm a normal Steemian!

What a cute little guy! I can only buy here, but that's what I need. I cannot legally use Coinbase in Hawai'i.

STEEM is in the Red, Why Not Buy a Different Coin?

If you look at coinmarket cap right now, a large number of the top 100 coins are falling into the red, except for a few, including bitcoin which is now climbing the new ATH to the tune of $6000. This is something different than we have been seeing the past few months with BTC doing well and majority of coins following suite. Does this have something to do with the next Bitcoin hardfork coming in November? I'm not here to speculate this specifically, as the focus of tonight's post is on STEEM being a solid choice for myself.

The ATM is inside the stamp and coin collectors store in the central business district. They recognize BTC as currency!

I already have small cloud mining contracts for both BTC and ETH because these are the biggest players in cryptocurrency in the current day. When most of the public talk about crypto, these and Litecoin are the first big names that get thrown around, and old skool investors are getting their feet wet with these ones instead of other altcoins and tokens. I'm not out to risk all my funds and striking it rich by diving into lesser known coins that are just starting out with new ICOs, I don't have the money for that. I'm in it for the long run of building a small but strong portfolio of the ones I think will do best, like every investor, we make our choices based on our own opinions and research.

Anthara is a small tech-start up that helped make my purchase today a reality. Thank you!

Steemit Has a Lot Coming Up, Buy STEEM at the Low!

I was fortunate enough to be able to get each 1 STEEM for 96 cents. Considering that back in July, STEEM was slightly over $1.50, that's a steal! Since Steemfest2 will undoubtedly bring many updates and insights to light about the future of this blockchain, I know that these announcements and unveilings have the potential to garner much more support than we are seeing right now. Even with setbacks, obstacles will be overcome. There's a lot of failure if you think about success stories.

People may have doubts about SMT's and even I am not sure how it will all turn out. BUT! A good thing to remember that I feel so many of us are overlooking is that we were already a platform far before any announcement of tokens even surfaced. If you look at the top coins, do you know what they do and the projects attached to them are? STEEM already has the heart of Steemit to use the coin for many purposes.

There are a lot of coins that are still trying to implement their white papers, and make their currency... actually do something, and provide some source of functionality. Yet, here we are, already able to buy products, services, tip, and transfer funds to one another powered by STEEM. That's why I'm investing now, before the waves of higher value reach our shores.

A Turning Point for Me as a Steemian

To be perfectly honest, I'm not even a cryptocurrency writer, however I felt that this was an important event for myself realizing the potentials and value that this platform has brought all of us. I smiled so big knowing that I have come far enough to be able to make my own opinion on what I want to follow through on. When I first came to Steemit, I was hard focused on never spending a dime, and trying to earn it up. Since then, I've grown and changed my mind on how much I value Steemit, and what the developers and witness aim to do, and achieve here.

@blocktrades is the real MVP here, I'm excited!

What do you think will happen when Steemit gets popular for the average social media user?

I'm not game to wait and see what will happen, as by then it will be too late when STEEM hits $10 or higher. I don't plan to wait, and end up wishing that I had more faith in Steemit when the proof was there. Everyone is focusing on the problems, while many are working on the solutions. Again, I'm no expert, but since I am willing to devote my time to using Steemit this frequently, it wouldn't hurt to invest a few of my other resources as well. Ultimately we all make the investment that we think is best, and please take this article with a grain of salt as to what should be invested on. I felt good making this purchase.

I also made my first investment into steem tonight! It was my first crypto transaction ever and I feel pretty good about it. Bought some btc through coinbase and moved it into steem via blocktrades. not a ton of cash, but i thought it better stored in steem than in a bank earning .1% interest lol.

Right? Doesn't it feel good to support something you fully believe in? Since I still have normal people bills, I gotta keep some fiat currency in my accounts lmao, but I was so glad that I am actually able to show some real support! I saw you got 94 STEEM transferred to you, great job!

I'm followin' ya c:

yeah i got lucky running it through coinbase. btc went up by $10US from the time i bought it til the time i sent it to steem - paid for my transaction fees!

I had a similar experience. I'm glad I saw it through as well, I can imagine other people having the same idea and seeing bitcoin shoot up like that causing them to waver on buying STEEM. Transaction fees aren't too bad right now, what a great bonus!

i think i'm going to try to put a bit into steem each month. not just for the investment but also because from what i have seen in 3 months being here, this deserves my financial support as well as my intangible support. if that makes sense...

That's a really good goal to have, building up your own stash of STEEM. I've also been here for 3 months, and you make sense. When Steemit succeeds, we all succeed so why not give the platform what we can? This is some top tier input!

and thanks!

Thank you again for sharing your experience with me as well c:

@shello I did a search-turns out there are a bunch of these in LA. Looks like I will have to go visit one. Yours was at a coin shop? You should pick up some silver once in a while when you're there. 👍🏾😊

Oh! You should definitely go and check it out. Some are only there "to buy" BTC from, while others allow you to buy and sell out of your Bitcoin wallet! Yeah, I thought that being inside a coin shop was really fitting in this case, I'll see what's available when I head back there. I was able to find it easily since my dad used to collect coins and strange currency.

Runs in the family :3

Congrats on taking your first step into the crypto space! It does always feel good to put your money in something that you believe in. We're proof that this platform is engaging and does add value and as long as that keeps being the case, it's going to keep growing as well.

Hey! Thank you for stopping in @raised2b, it really does feel nice. We all just gotta keep our thinking caps on and provide content, feedback, and insight for each other c:

Your post is well formatted . I'm really bad at it . Hawaii is such a cool place .. BTc will hit 10k soon ., I think steem will not move much as of now . Good post

Thank you for the feedback @navala! There are many resources on Steemit to help the Markdown formatting we use. We shall see what will happen, I want to have at least tried instead of watching with no stake!

This reference helped me a lot, you should take a look. Make your blogs format look good too :D

Hey thanks ., keep up the good posts !!

Thank you, I'll do my best!

Steem is a long term play. Keep acquiring it.

Thank you, I plan to.
