Hello everybody,
we often get asked how much a sponsor of smartsteem earns and if it is profitable.
The short answer is: yes, it is profitable.
And how profitable? Well, this is what we'll cover in this post.
But first of all..
What is a sponsor?
smartsteem offers different services. And one of these service is a bid-bot.
The bid-bot operates with delegated Steempower from other steemians - also called Sponsors.
These Sponsors earn 90% of the profit generated through the bid-bot. Which means: while @smartsteem is doing all the work, the sponsors receive the majority of the generated profit.
To make this a bit clearer - we'll use @xeldal as an example since he is delegating to @smartsteem for the longest time (a big big thanks to you, @xeldal !!)
As of writing of this post - the duration of xeldal's delegation of 20.3k STEEMPOWER is 26 days.
In these 26 days - xeldal generated 188 STEEM and 42.464 SBD - which converted to USD is worth around 1200 USD right now.
The only problem with this calculation is, that due to the extreme price increase - the true amount generated is more dynamic and not that easy to calculate. This is also why we haven't calculated the amount that would have been generated with pure self-upvoting - again due to the dynamic of the STEEM price.
The other benefit of sponsoring
We hope that we could proof, with this example, that delegating to smartsteem is indeed profitable.
But some people don't really care about making profit - especially when it's about bid-bots.
We are pretty sure that xeldal didn't delegate because he wanted to make money with it but most importantly to support the steemblockchain by supporting @smartsteem.
And this is the other benefit of delegating to smartsteem.
Benefit: You support @smartsteem
As we said in the beginning of this post - smartsteem offers multiple services. smartsteem is not only a bid-bot but much, much more. And our goal right now is to build the foundation which we can use to bootstrap other, more innovative ideas.
Especially since the team behind smartsteem is very small - only @therealwolf and @artbunny - so we don't have a lot of mouths to feed and can be as effective as possible.
How do I delegate to smartsteem?
You might be interested now in delegating to smartsteem, but you don't know how start?
No problem! Simply read our detailed guide that we have written exactly for delegating to smartsteem:
https://steemit.com/steem/@smartsteem/guide-how-to-delegate-to-smartsteem-and-earn-profit-shares
What is the minimum delegation amount?
While xeldal has delegated a huge amount of 20k SP - a lower amount of around 5 - 10 SP is also fine. It will generate much less - of course - but you will still receive the same 90% profit-share.

The problem i have with this is some days ago, i went for this package: "Buy Instant-Upvotes through smartmarket - profit guaranteed - send URL as MEMO to @smartmarket - both SBD & STEEM accepted." with 3.932 STEEM for this post https://busy.org/cryptocurrency/@pes7md/bitcoin-has-a-dirty-dirty-secret and while i received a response that my post will get a 90% vote, i was shocked to see $2.51 as earnings from one of your steems called @Lasper. I thought my earnings was suppose to increase, instead i got lesser. Why is that? Its against what you said it is with @smartmarket as you said profit is guaranteed. I obviously made a loss here. Kindly look into it for me. Thanks

Very interesting service
I like the clear rules.
If I understand well, technically the minimum term for SP delegation is 7 days and the payouts are in SBD ans SP?

I am delegating / sponsoring because I want to support people who are actively doing things to help improve the quality of the posts as well as giving people who deserve more attention the support they need. However, I am still unclear how the algorithm works in calculating the ranking of the users, so if @therealwolf and @artbunny can help clarify this for the sponsors and users I am sure it would generate more interest.
