This is so funny, I've encountered a very similar situation actually. I've recently seen a thread on the Bitcointalk forum, where someone was asking about the best platform to build a dApp on. No one seems to even consider Steem as a good platform.
I mentioned it straight away and gave some examples of successful dApps. Great that you're basically approaching it the same way.

Many think Steem is just a (ONE!) blogging platform... That it's a developers paradise and playground is just NOT something that we're known for and that's a huge missed opportunity.

Indeed! Time to get these misconceptions out of there and start promoting Steem for what it really is: a full-fledged dApp platform that can be used by anyone! Really, if people just knew how easy it was to join this amazing community, they would be standing in line to join.

Steem still has a bit of a stigma of beeing a ponzi and not fully decentralized, ever since it's bumpy launch.
I think with SMTs (luckily?) on the backburner and STINC pulling back we really need to get it heard that this chain actually makes stuff happen!

INDEED @fraenk! And one way to make people 'forget' what's happening/once happened in the background is to show the forefront... All the awesome dApps that are being developed despite the bear market, despite delays of SMT's... No-one will care about any of the 'stigma' once they start playing @steemmonsters ;-)

A months ago I started doing a sort of ranking of all of the dApps on every dApps platform. For this I checked a couple of webs like dappradar.com and dapp.review :)
None of them have steem. I wrote a mail to dapp.review to include steem. Still didn't get an answer.

That's some great work @soyrosa making waves on twitter ;-) I haven't used twitter from the account I set up there years ago. I only ever used to post Haiku on there anyway. Sometimes something just doesn't gel and it was like that for me with twitter from the beginning. I just didn't feel it.
