SteemWorld ~ Newsletter #1 / January, 2018

in steem •  7 years ago  (edited)

I wish you all a wonderful new year, much success on Steem(it) and good profits in this fascinating crypto world!

From now on I am going to post such newsletters every few weeks to keep you informed about new features on steemworld.org and my progress regarding the implementation of the planed modules. As my time is too short to make a detailed post about what I have developed in the past weeks (still need my part time jobs to pay my bills), I can not do other than just give you a small update post currently.

Since the web service I use for receiving the incoming delegations seems not to be always available/reliable (guess it is under heavy load) and the data are not being refreshed daily anymore, I'm now working on my own solution (SteemWorld Web API running on my server) that will work much faster and will be able to fulfill my desired quality requirements.

As some of you may have heard already, I have been hit by a car on a bike trip (part time job) recently and therefore I can not sit as long as I usually do on a daily basis to work on SteemWorld. But I am feeling really good today and I think it is just a matter of a few days until my leg will be regenerated to the fullest... :)

Updates / New Features

  • Delegations now editable
  • Replies tab, zoomable pictures in Recent Posts
  • STEEM/SBD Price Ticker Web Service (running on my server)
  • USD/EUR amounts calculated by the use of external prices
-> Curation now excluded from amounts in USD/EUR by default
  • Percentage of total reward fund in Coming Rewards
  • New operation filters (upvotes, downvotes, delegations, market orders)
  • Possibility to hide specific operations
  • Tool "Account Votes" (Voting Analysis Tool, alpha state...)
  • New Settings (Coin Site, Preview Currency)
  • Power Up (Balances)

Currently Working On

  • SteemWorld Web API
This enables me to implement SP ranks and an overview of the top whales like on steemwhales. Thanks to @acidyo for the great idea!

You must really love Steemit. Your Steemworld webpage is one of the best apps out there. I am very thankful for it. Keep up the great work! tip!

good comment is true that is the best application I use daily.

Thanks for everything you do! I am sure I use the Steemworld app more than any other. Please post more, so I can contribute my puny vote to your progress, and I'm sure others will do that as well.

Thanks man! I love to create such tools and most of my time goes into developing the SteemWorld, but you're right. I really consider to post more, maybe once a week, so that the people have a possibility to support me.

Same here :)

Thanks for making our Steemit life better with the developments you have added onto the Steemit platform. I have some small requests though. Could you please add a feature that notifies someone when a friend mentions them in a post.

Thank you! Yes, the mentions module is planed and will be implemented after building the SteemWorld Web API ;)

Cool i cant wait.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

This is the the best app of its kind, hands down. Keep up the good work mate!

What does the “Voting CSI” statistic refer to? What is a “good” value or a “bad value” for Voting CSI?

The CSI is being calculated by watching the upvotes for the last 7 days (maybe I will change it to 30 days). If someone always votes the same accounts it can have a negative effect on the CSI. But of course it's okay to vote the same authors every day as long as one is voting for others as well.

It still may need some fine tuning, therefore I will take a look at some accounts in the coming days and optimize the algorithm as needed.

Your value is very good btw ;)

The CSI system is a good Idea maybe, I am not sure. An individual that has less than 500SP, is most likely going to remain in the red. They do not have the ability or the power like a large dolphin or a whale to spread their vote around.
When first starting out in steemit in order to build your reputation you need to find a like minded group of people, that is what most people that have spent any time on stemit tell you. I am not going to impress the cooking people with my ability to open a can of beans and cook them. My drawings that look like they were done by a 3 year old are not going to impress anyone.
I might be interested in those items, cooking and art, but I am not ever going to have a cooking post or an art post get much traction. Now in games, I may find a few or a lot of like minded people, of blogs that I really like, so I would tend to stay in that community as I try to build my SP upto slider category. So to build my REP in the game community, since that is what my blog is going to be about, my 10 votes a day are going to be concentrated in that area.
By having my 10 votes a day concentrated among a few people I am receiving help from, my CSI is going to be like shit deep in the red, for a long time. When Communities come to steemit, how is the CSI going to work with that, most people will be in their own little niche then. Homesteaders in Homesteading community. Authors in the Writing Community. Motor bikers in the Motorcycle community, Travelers in the Travel Community. All these communities already have pretty well known leaders of the pack in them. new users to get and gain traction are going to be using their votes on their leaders, and a few of the other predominant person of that group.
The reality of being less than a minnow is that you have 10 votes a day to use and that is all. You can use more but then it would not take long before your vote is 0 and it takes forever to recoup your vote power.
Just a few things to think about.

The CSI algorithm does not make a difference regarding to the users stake. I've optimized it a bit in the last hours and your value is neutral now (page refresh required).

Never underestimate giving a vote to other accounts even if it is only $0.10! You didn't vote for my comment but you have taken some time to think about the CSI and writing a great comment, therefore you will get a 100% vote from me ;)

Cheers!

You see, that is one of the problems. My vote power is down to about 85 percent. As a less than minnow status, I unfortunately need to be conscious of my level or vote value drops quickly. There are people that it does not matter how often you visit and vote do no reciprocate. An individual like me will unlikely reach green status until the vote slider is achieved.
I will upvote reply, as I do appreciate the response. All I ask is that this not become another whale centric system such as the downvote system. I have 4 stories that I enjoy reading on a daily bases, there go 4 to 6 votes a day depending on interaction. That leaves 4 to 6 votes for other areas of interest. It has been almost a week since my vote power has been in the 90 range.
In adition I have recently agreed to help 2 individuals on there project so there go 2 more same daily vote potential, leaving 2 misc. Votes available. That is my reality on steemit.
Once again thank you for the response and seeing the issue.

Did you try my manual vote tool on SteemWorld? I'm not sure if it will work with < 500 SP but I think it should. There's a slider:

I will have to wait til I get home. To hard to try on the phone. I am lucky that I can open more than one page.

very interesting conversation of the two, I'm going to try that tool, although I still wonder what it is worth to give a vote if it is not 100%? it is not more profitable for the 2 parties both voter and voted to receive the 100% vote
I'm still learning

I got a really long error report, will try on a newer post and not a comment to see if it works.
Here is the error report:

Ok

Okay, no problem using on a brand new post thank you.

I am so ecstatically happy with this a made a post about it, thank you for all the hard work and making this available for us redfish, I no longer feel like a redfish, I have entered the Japanese Betta Fighting fish stage.

https://steemworld.org/@coolguy123 This guy should fare well!

Yeah his value is great:

 < 1.1 bad (red)
 >= 3 good (green)

but some changes regarding these values may occur in the coming days...

Hab' dir ne Memo in die Wallet geschickt.

Still not clear what it means. Crime Scene Investigator? Chocolate Science Indicator? Chinese Song Incidence?

Community Support Index. The higher the better. I will explain it in my next newsletter.

Ah! Klingt schon mal spannend!

I sound like a movie csi hahaha search in google and I only found crime scenes

Your SteemWorld is great, Thanks for this very useful tool.
Sad to hear that you are hit by a car and injured. Wish you a speedy recovery.
I think you should rest well until fully recovered, then only continue to update with new features.
Steemworld is good enough and updates can wait. Health is more important 😊

@steemchiller—Of all of the Steem apps available, yours is the one I use the most for virtually everything I could want to know! Thank you for developing this and for the improvements you're making. Sorry to hear about your accident, but I wish you quick healing. Keep up the good work. I will try to support you as much as plankton can!

Moin.

5.488 SBD insgesamt

  • 50% in SBD ~ 2.744 SBD
  • 50% in SP ~ 2.744 / 6.00 (Median Price) = 0.4573 SP

Doppelt Aua! 😉

Thanks for building these very handy tools. Makes life so much easier to have them all in one place.

Nice post sir

Upvote and resteem done done.

Steemworld ist für mich absolut unverzichtbar geworden. Wirklich grossartige Arbeit die Du da geleistet hast.

Kannst Du auslesen, wieviele steemit-accounts Deinen Dienst täglich nutzen?

I finally appreciated your tool after seeing the video that @kus-knee posted. I really like how you show information for specific posts, especially the distribution of votes, the images, and the resteems. Is there somewhere that you show 'mentions'? It sure would be nice to know when people mention us, so we could thank them or respond. Heal up quick -- it's hard out there for a bicyclist!

Thank you @haphazard-hstead! The "Mentions Module" is one of my next tasks after building the Web API. It seems as if many people are waiting for that :) Would be nice to see them in realtime as incoming account operations...

Yeah, it's sometimes really hard out there for a bicyclist! But I love it and the accident can't stop me for a long time, just for some days. Healing process looks good and I think I'll be back on the road soon ;)

I use your Great Steem tool all the time. Best energies in your recovery from the accident.

That's great to hear -- on the mentions and your healing, too.

Great work! Still one of my favorite tools.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but it sounds like you are recovering. I will send some positive thoughts your way.

Thank you for everything! I like checking out steemworld almost every hour 😅

And also feel better soon!

Your tool is awesome and I've been promoting it far and wide!

Thank you very much! I completely missed that, because I have been so busy with developing the tool. I'm following you now, so I hopefully won't miss any of your nice promo posts again ;)
Cheers!

I check steemworld as much as anything else on the blockchain. I think it's one of the most important resources for steem(it) that's been created yet. Each feature is a reason enough on its own to use the site, and all of them together in one place is incredible. Thanks for all your work!

Nice update with a many needed features! Thanks for the edit option for delegation!

I really love the steemworld application. I am glad you are still adding features to it though. It is really an integral part of the steem ecosystem in my mind.

Great job on your tool, I use it all the time.

My only feature request would be to separate the curation from beneficiary rewards in the top of the website.

Good luck with the leg recovery

Danke für die Infos bezüglich der Steemworld! Und gute Besserung deinem Bein!

thanks for the work @steemchiller, steemworld is one of my favorite tools.

What I would love to see is an option to sort followers chronologically, and maybe even according to their SP. The tool I used for keeping track of new followers has sadly gone offline, and I didn't find an alternative yet, so this is a nieche that should be filled imo.

I really thank you, I constantly use this excellent tool.
It is the best tool to monitor everything that happens in my account.

You developing/programming folks have my admiration and thanks for all you do in the backroom which allows so many of us to stand in our truth and shine here.

Big virtual high five!

xox

This is the first I'm hearing of #Steemworld, thanks to @shaka for resteeming this post. I will visit steemworld to see for myself.

Hey, best wishes in a speedy recovery. I also would like to say thank you for the work on SteemWorld. For me it is natural to have it open as I would my steemit tab. It is extremely helpful for me to know whats coming and the tracking of the asks/stocks. Thank you and RESPECT!

Its really awesome. I totally loved it. Infact i saw this a few days ago only. I researched each and every section of it, and it was amazing. I thought of sharing this to the world. So i took d=few screenshots to share this with my followers. Really you made this an amazing platform. Better if you can provide option to author post from here. It will be independent then ,,Mere a suggestion.
I shared something about steemworld in my post :
https://steemit.com/steemitworld/@indiantraveller/steemitworld-found-some-awesome-api-today

Sometimes I ask myself why some people can't find the upvote button while still being able to express their love in a comment. Maybe they don't want to get a vote from me? As you can see I vote for nearly all the comments that I receive... :)

Thanks for your kind words!

Missed that, but it was not an intension..
It was not only comment to express my love.
This steemworld really deserves 100% up.

Steemworld is the best tool site for Steemit in the world! Congrats @steemchiller, magnificent work!

Great work! Thank you so much for the time and effort. You are doing a fantastic job. Sucks to hear you got injured like that. I wish you a speedy recovery!

Get well soon and thanks for SteemWorld.

Thank you for all your hard work! I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but I hope you have a quick recovery!

Thanks for the update and for your hard work. Hope you get better soon!

Was da an Arbeit und Leidenschaft drinsteckt! Ich zieh den Hut!
Vielen Dank, dass Du Dich da so reinhängst!

I have just discovered about this tool and I might be spending half of the day learning. Great work!

Thank you for making this awesome tool! I read about it in a post by @kus-knee and I was instantly hooked. I constantly use it.
I hope your leg heals quickly.
Looking forward to future updates and posts :)

OMG! Great initiative.
I love how it shows the value of your SBD/SP
This is the best ALL-IN-ONE PACKAGE DEAL YOU'll EVER GET!!!!!! WOOHOOO

Sometimes I ask myself why some people can't find the upvote button while still being able to express their love in a comment. Maybe they don't want to get a vote from me? As you can see I vote for nearly all the comments that I receive... :)

Thanks for your kind words!

two things....

low upvote power and others still have 0.001 upvote rate hahahaha however, you contributed well to the community and I may not be the first but I humbly say thank you and I appreciate what you contributed to #steemit

More power @steemchiller! I bid you more blessings!

Btw, I made a little posts to acknowledge your legacy. I hope you'll find it ok.
It's my way to say thank you for this platform and to help you also.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@dante01/anything-at-the-tip-of-your-fingers-steemworld-org-provides-window-to-you-steemit-account

I'm suffering from a bug on Steemworld.

2 days ago I ran a routine CCleaner run.

Ever since, "Account operations" shows nothing, and clicking on "Refresh" under "Coming Author Rewards" returns "No coming author rewards found!".

Now I must either use Inprivate Browsing or a browser other than Chrome to make use of the site.

That's interesting. To which Node are you connected? Please choose the first Steem Node (privex) in settings. There should come up a hint saying "Connection established".

Then press Ctrl + F5 (forced refresh) and tell me if it works ;)
Thanks!

I was connected to wss://steemd.steemitstage.com.

Changing to privex did the trick, thanks a bunch! It was really quite annoying :3

From two days I can,t understand what,s the going on the steemit platform..When I go to my wallet then reputation is looking 25.please if you know why it happens please inform me @steemchiller.Already steem delegation have gone really I am worrief about that my dear friend.

That seems to be a bug on Steemit. I guess it will be fixed soon. Regarding the delegation I'm not sure. Maybe they need the SP for new users... My 145 SP are also gone ;)

I wish you a nice day!

Thanks for your feedback.

I just discovered Steemworld two days ago and now I am addicted to checking it. I may have a problem... thanks for the awesome site!

Great thank you very much, Steemworld is awesome very usefull!

thank you sir I have had steemworld saved on my favorites for about a week now & didn't realize it was created by a user. It's my personal favorite out of the helping websites, I also use Steemd, Steem supply & Spectacles. Ive only been using Steemit for 3 weeks & it really has helped me gain a better understanding of how things work here. I usually have it opened as a 2nd tab.

Something green has appeared in my account that I have no idea what it is you can help me with?
Voting CSI 10.121 (~ 6.99% of VP used for self voting in the last 7 days)
what is that?

That's the new Community Support Index. It's kind of a rating for your voting behaviour. The higher the better. Green is very good.

Details will follow in the next newsletter ;)

Thank you for your response and for that vote it really helps me a lot.
I will be attentive to the next bulletin then

thank you for very useful tool I use it several times a day and the upgrade sounds good for me I vote and resteemed

I started seeing this for the first time today:

Is there a way we can change the node setting while using SteemWorld, or does this have to be configured on your end?

Thanks!

The tool automatically tries different nodes at start up and uses the first successful connection. But you can change it by yourself in the settings:

Thanks for the help!

I've been loving SteemWorld so far. Such a great game changer. Thanks for the hard work.

Thanks! That's just the beginning... I'm currently parsing the blockchain to get my own web service up and running. It will take a few days to finish, but then it will get really awesome, because I can implement desktop notifications for mentions and much more ;)

I am thinking about getting a web app up and going myself as my contribution to the community. Thats sounds amazing about desktop notifications. Keep at it man. I'm sure the community will love it.

Hi,

thanks for the information. I would find it very useful to install more filter criteria on the home interface - if this is possible. Another feature would be a sorting function - ascending/descending.

This would enable us to do more specific research on topics we are interested -as there are so many posts every day.

Cheers

Vote back bro
