Vote buying on the increase?

in steem •  4 years ago

Since I and others have stopped downvoting it looks like people are buying more, and bigger, votes.

I've seen people saying the Steem trending page is more diverse now, but you can see that many posts there get zero comments. It just looks like people chasing curation rewards after a big account votes them up either through a curation project or paid votes. You cannot blame the old witnesses and 4ive users for that. Is Steem going to stay social or will it turn into mostly a dash for cash. Of course there are no absolutes.

Meanwhile on 4ive I am finding very few posts with paid votes to flag, but I will use my downvotes to get a better distribution of rewards when I can make a difference. Note that @crystalliu is being dealt with over there, but is reaping good rewards for self-voting on Steem.

Does not look so good the future here

The only bid bot I ever used was @ocdb. I always gave my best shot when using it.

I think you're right about organic curation slowing down on Steem recently. The downvoting has stopped. Large stakeholders no longer care. I have received free large upvotes from former bid bots turned curation projects on Steem within the last couple of days but I have a feeling that those days will be over soon.

I have already been cross-posting some of my best photography posts from the past. I would re-post old content only sparingly on Hive. So far I haven't bought any votes on those posts. I've been sharing YouTube videos but I haven't bought any votes on those either.

I'm conflicted as shitting where I eat has never held much appeal to me. But if there are no standards any longer, I wonder when I should go fully to the dark side.

As to the future here, it is no longer in our hands. Justin Sun wanted all the power for himself. Now he can deal with that. It's his job to hire minions to make this place work if he wants to. A community scorned and already settled elsewhere will not do it for him.

Top trending post paid over 200 Steem for votes. That's the way it's going. People are returning to milk it whilst they can. It's got nothing to do with community. Sad to see.

The optimal course of action will be to regurgitate content to buy votes for while having next to nothing powered up. That way, a few dollars worth of STEEM could be made per day. When the lights go out, it won't be a big loss.

I don't really feel like using old post. I will just post when I have something to say. I can make a bit from curation of good people anyway.

To make anything from curation requires powered up STEEM. The scenario here was Steem becoming a milking fest without downvoting to prevent spam, farming and bid bot abuse.

True. I have a fair bit of SP that will take a couple more months to power down. I will make what I can from that. Just ought to avoid incurring the wrath of Steemit :)

While I have stake left, I'll be keeping an eye on what goes on in Trending. Some of the content on Trending on Steem before EIP was shockingly low-quality. If similar content reappears, I'll take it as a signal that it's no holds barred from then on. :)

Is @chbartist back yet? Someone needs to tell him about all the new changes.

...'not back, I checked'...

He would love to be back on trending. I stopped paying attention to him, so don't know when he left.

He had a sizable stake once, now its virtually nothing. When the DV's started, he lost interest and left.

Ah. I don't know why I thought those upvotes were organic haha. Makes sense now.

So who will downvote those who abuse Steem?

As a Steem holder I will continue to express my opinions here. Enjoy!

I've declared that I will not downvote on Steem any more, even if people flag my posts. If the community are happy to see vote buying and self-voting of junk posts then so be it. I will focus my energy elsewhere.

I appreciate your devotion in responding to me. It makes me feel wanted and so I will keep commenting.

He inspired me to power down, so I will have less influence on Steem. You should be glad.
