The Easiest Way For Americans To Convert STEEM To $US DollarssteemCreated with Sketch.

For Americans living in the USA, here’s the easiest way to convert your STEEM to US Dollars:

STEP 1: Create an account on Steemit.com

STEP 2: Sign up for a BitPay Visa Debit card

This process takes around 10 days because you’re ordering a physical card in the mail. My card took about 2 weeks to arrive. (If you can’t get a BitPay card because you’re not a US Citizen, then you can use Wall of Coins. I personally know the owner of Wall of Coins, so I know it’s safe to use.)

STEP 3: Create an account on Bittrex.com Please only use this Bittrex link: https://bittrex.com/

And bookmark it. There are plenty of scam sites that are phishing sites. If you only use the web address that you have bookmarked in your browser, you know that you will be safe.

Here’s a video that shows you how to create a Bittrex account:

After you have made some Steem and Steem Dollars and want to convert it to Bitcoin then to US Dollars, you need to follow these instructions:

Steem is different from Steem Dollars. On Bittrex, please be careful because each is considered a separate currency. Before you transfer anything to the @bittrex account on Steemit, you must be aware if you’re transferring STEEM:

steem.jpeg

or STEEM DOLLARS (SBD):

sbd.jpeg

Here’s a tutorial of how to send Steem Dollars (SBD) to Bittrex, then convert to Bitcoin. The same method would apply if sending STEEM, but you’d have a different memo # and of course, you need to find STEEM currency in order to get the right memo #.

Once you have converted your STEEM or STEEM DOLLARS (SBD) into Bitcoin, you can send it to your BitPay wallet.

If you don’t know how to send Bitcoin to an address, watch this video for the basics. Always do a test when sending your first Bitcoin, so send a very very small amount. Bitcoin is undergoing a huge influx of users, and nowadays, there are large fees and long wait times for confirmations. Some transactions have taken many hours. This is a new development as more people are beginning to use Bitcoin. The other coins like Dash and Steem do not have these long confirmation times.

Your BitPay wallet is best used as app on a smartphone, and it’s part of the BitPay card, but it has a separate function. They work together though. It’s used to hold your Bitcoin because it is a wallet, then after it has Bitcoin in it, you top up your BitPay card with those Bitcoins. At the time you add Bitcoin to your BitPay debit card, your Bitcoins are now converted into US Dollars. So make sure and sell your Bitcoin when the price is high.

Here are the basics of the BitPay wallet and card:

I only recently started using the BitPay card and I have to say it's fantastic. I want to avoid using Coinbase because of its high fees. Also, I prefer using Bittrex because it's a smaller exchange and I haven't had any issues with it.

Cheers,
Stellabelle

I've been searching for this post, thank you!

I figured there were many newbies with this exact question! This is a years worth of research in this post! And I can personally vouch for these companies, as I use them.

You called it! Thank you for being the one to bring it to light! I'm completely new to this entire platform and understanding everything is tough, but your post was most helpful!

please use this link to bittrex: https://bittrex.com/
There are scam sites, so make sure you're on this one. Bookmark it and never search on Google for it.

Awesome, thank you!

I am sooo doing this right now! Thanks yet again, @stellabelle for the solid information.

Thanks, this answers many questions. I'll be working on it soon. 🚬

YESSS! THIS IS AMAZING! I did this, and holy cow!

I just got my card about a week ago, and have been using my Steemit earnings to make ends meet, as my girlfriend is on a two month, unpaid maternity leave...

I'm still very much struggling, but Steemit and bitpay have most certainly helped my mental health over the whole issue.

yeah you and me both. Steemit changed my life.

Oh yeah. This is amazeballs! When @cryptomomma gets back to work, we'll have more money than ever before, we're just very much hit right now. I even posted a plea for help in the form of a high interest loan, as I have a pre-eviction sitting on my desk 😥

But no worries, Steemit, and the wonderful people within, are going to launch me to the moon!

start writing for steemcentral the steemit wiki

I've looked at that. Started an account yesterday. Will probably write an article or two. I noticed the steemgigs page is empty, so i'm definitely writing that one :D

Thank you! I have been looking for answer to so many questions. This is one of them.

Sadly, it took me an entire year to discover the BitPay wallet! I was using Coinbase.......which is easy to use, but the fees are SOOOOOO HIGH, and it doesn't convert to a card! BitPay is my new God.

Because of you it will not take me a year. I don't really have money but I did buy $100 to get started and to begin to learn a little more. I used Coinbase and I made the mistake of using a debit card. I will now be setting up in
BitPay. Again thanks!

you're welcome!

Hi it's me again. Sorry to bother you but I have a question. I have a problem that videos will not run for me in Steemit. I don't know if it has to do with my browser or OS, My browser is Firefox and my OS is Linux Mint. It's not a big problem I don't find time to watch many videos and usually on Steemit there is a Youtube link or a title I can search. After all that The question is do you have a youtube channel or someone you want to recommend. I know there are a lot out there but I like your work and thought if you have a go to guy I would go there also. Again much thanks for the info.
Restreemed...

i have a youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/stellabelle

I have no idea why videos aren't working....maybe it's firefox..

Again thanks for all your time. I will bookmark your youtube and be seeing you around the neighborhood.

Thanks for the post, I am new on steemit ... when I saw the wallet concept, I was wondering, how it works.

Someone just asked about this in a post a few days ago. That tells me several more people are thinking about it, so I'm gonna share/resteem!!

You can skip the account creation on Bittrex and just use Blocktrades.us without signing up for anything. The transfer takes a few seconds most of the time.

thanks for that tip

Very happy to get this information. Bitpay sounds great. I've been using Coinbase as well and the fees are too high.

Thanks for your information! It is very useful for a newbie like me. However, some people told me that it is better to use steem and SBD to but steem power instead of cash out. What do you think? It is better for us to buy steem power in order to earn more?

Thanks for the informative post but right now all I care about is building up my steem power.

Thanks for the information, man
do you think it would be possible to do the same from Europe? or it is only possible for US residence/citizens?

Bitpay announced they will be available in over 130 countries so hope yes

waw ...sounds awesome
thanks for this
resteeming this useful post
:)

I don't know much about how it works in Europe.....

Great advice stellabelle! resteemed!

dang people being telling me crazy solutions for this, you made it look soooo easy I hope it's that easy. if so you safe me tones of problems thanks !!!

BEWARE! According to the IRS every time you trade one coin for another, $STEEM to $BTC, $BTC to $BTS, etc. that trade is taxable. If you make a profit on that trade you are liable for the tax. We all despise the taxman, but I don't want Steemit members to get hit with a tax bill they weren't expecting.

http://www.bitcointaxsolutions.com/learn/bitcoin-tax-101/

I am in no way affiliated with the above site. I found the information there very useful and am in the process of contacting them.

According to the IRS if i pay for a service in beer and pizza those are also taxable. Or they're tax fraud. Can't remember which.

great information Thanks

Thank You for sharing your knowledege Stellabelle. We need a place to save posts!

i know! hopefully that is coming in the near future! i feel the same way....

I'm also pretty new like a few of the others, but I have come to believe that some of these fees are a minimum. I noticed my fee for example stayed the same on Coinbase when transferring funds different amounts of coins. So, transfer more coins/usd at a time to have a lower percentage in your fees. I noticed this when testing with smaller amounts just to learn the process in case I lost money in cyberspace. Then when I did my "real" transfers I noticed the fee was the same. Anyhow...

Thanks for your sharing

This is great information - and it's all in one place! Thanks for sharing this. RE-STEEM.

Hi @stellabella !!! I know you just upvode me, thanks.

I always followed you, so do you...

Great suggestion @stellabelle. I have also stopped using Coinbase - due to high fees and claims that it has stolen credit card details in the past. Holding all my STEEM and SBD on Steemit for now but I have heard great things about the BitPay Visa card!

Monaco card will be even better. Less comissions.

i've heard conflicting things about Monaco

Care to share/link? Thanks

can't recall them

Thanks. bittrex is one of the best exchange rn

Great post and you did a great job of step by step and I want to thank you for making it so easy my friend @stellabelle

Thanks for the info but I think best a long term plan

What is the best way for other currencies?

not sure....

awesome instructions -- not that I want to cash out.. i want to have it grow much more

I knew this had to exist in some form. Thank you for pointing this out. I'll set it up, but for now my money is on the way into steemit, not out.

I wonder if there is now, or will ever be, a way to get a Debit Card that accepts Steem and/or Bitcoin without having to give them your Social Security Number.

People with SSNs often don't want to type it into a form online. And not everyone in the US has a SSN.

Isn't one of the big reasons people want to use cryptocurrency is so they don't have to identify themselves with their government assigned ID number?

Just random thoughts! I have been on that bitPay sign up page, but closed it when asked for my SSN. VIVA is supposed to be issuing Debit Cards for us Vivos, so I'll wait and see the terms of that arrangement. But thanks for this great information which will work perfectly I am sure, for many Steemian!

The Evolution app from DASH doesn't require social security numbers

I'll check that out, thanks!

thanks. like the bitpay idea,

Thank you for this very informative blog. I have been thinking about these things and I now have some avenues to pursue and in a secure manner. I upvoted this and I have followed you, and I wish I could resteem this but I do not see the icon.....:(. How else can I save this blog for myself? Thanks.

Very helpful! Are we required to pay taxes on our curation rewards or only when we cash out?

Two things in life are assured. Death and taxes. Any attempt to escape either will result in a horrible failure. But yeah, its when you cash out.

Thanks! I've been wondering about it cuz I want to do things the right way, but there's not a lot of info on it

Nice work!

Really wishing that PayPal will eventually set up a Bitcoin exchange. It looks like its heading that way. https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@mericanhomestead/paypal-opens-up-bitcoin-exchange-my-dream-come-true-then-i-woke-up

Jealous...its not possible in Nepal

oh no!

oh..yes !!!

Very informative, although I won't be selling any steem for awhile at least gotta wait for the market to stabilize.

Thank you very much very informative, nice job!

Great information!

great post but I think it will only come handy a year from now as Steem is the only currency so have and i'm just in the process of growing.

I wish I had created Coinbase! The fees are pretty considerable even while maxing purchase limits. But currently, I consider it the pay to play privilege. I'm going to try Bittrex and tell five people!

Thank you so much! I'm in Canada but you've given me some great options here, so helpful and important to know the things to be aware of with regards to the phishing sites. So many good new things to learn!! Upvoted and very much appreciated.

Nice what about the fees from bitpay?

they seem less than coinbase, that's all i know. the convenience is worth it to me...

Thanks @stellabelle, great info. I've been using Coinbase and would happily avoid the fees by trying bitpay.

Great info and article. People who are not into crypto ask me all the time how to get $$ out. Followed and upvoted.

Amazing. <3
Thanks Ms. Stellabelle

Great tutorial @stellabelle
...only one problem. I don't want to sell my STEEM. :)

well me neither, but I have to sell a tiny bit...

Gotta get my fins on one of those cards, just using that around friends would be a great sell-point for cryptocurrency as a 'real' thing

Thanks @stellabelle ! Very very useful!!!

dont forget about www.Blocktrades.us to convert your steem or SBD to bitcoin without ANy singup or account r any limitation of whichc ountry your in :)

Awesome. I love the newbie posts on how to actually use your rewards. This is a great way to make it easy for people to use their Steem! Do you do many other posts like this for newcomers? I'm going to set up an account for Bittrex :) thankyou!

Thanks for this very useful Information. I see, you are again a good supporter for the newbees. If the crypotocurrency community continues to grow, there will be now more any need to convert steem. You will be able to pay directly with it all over the world.

Sweeeeeeet! I've been thinking about this. Right info at the right time. Thanks...

Thank you!! this is good info :)

Thank you for this info. Even the comments have great info! Because they answered all my questions that I had😊

yeah. coinbase seems to be reputable for high fees and seems to get hack often in the news.

Great info. I am saving this post to my steemit file. Thanks!

Thankd for this great information.

Thanks for this great information.

Nice update @stellabelle. I wish I'm in America now. Where I am, you must have to go through bitcoin before you convert it to fiat.

we still have to do that also.

I hope to see it soon. Thanks for this.

Awesome thanks for posting! We literally just received our bitpay visa in the mail yesterday! Great experience so far🙌🙌

yeah, it's awesome. I wish I had figured it out in 2016! But 2017 and on is looking very bright indeed!

Agreed! It's never too late👍👍

There is also Uquid card which can be loaded directly with STEEM, but I didn't try it yet.
