HELP NEEDED..!! A lesson to New Users, don't transfer STEEM when you are working on other things..!!

ROUND PEG, SQUARE HOLE

This morning I made a terrible mistake while I wanted to withdraw 500 STEEM to my @BITTREX Account.

I was working on so many different things at the time that I accidentally put in my BITCOIN address and not STEEM address to receive STEEM in the public memo.

Nightmare..!!

The money was to go towards paying for out of pocket expenses that are now building up in promoting STEEMIT in the U.K.

I have registered a request on the bittrex.zendesk support desk and was wondering if there was anything else I could do.

This is a massive lesson for New Users to make sure that you enter the correct address for the correct corresponding coins.

Thanks again for reading and thanks in anticipation if someone can help. Nightmare..!!

Stephen

I just upvoted your last 7 days' worth of comments and blog posts - about an average of $1.50 for each. I hope that helps you a bit. And if you end up recovering your losses, then consider this gesture as a thank you for promoting STEEM and steemit.com. Cheers.

UNBELIEVABLE..!! Thank you for this kind gesture. What a total credit to the Community you are. A MASSIVE THANK YOU. Stephen

Hey, I'm here for you. I done the same thing and lost $750. I'm writing this comment to not only support you but also support myself and hope this comment puts food on the table, god bless.

Thanks for the comment. It was a kick in teeth for me as I was only drawing out the funds to cover costs I had incurred in promoting Steemit. I felt physically sick when it happened. Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. Stephen

I hope Steemians can keep resteeming this post so that more people upvote it. This way you could recover some of your losses. :)

Yes , you're right @tamin...I just did it!

Thank you. I appreciate your support. Stephen

done

I just resteemed too!

I appreciate your overwhelming support. Stephen

Thank you for the support. The support has been overwhelming and hopefully has educated New Users to how important it is to ensure the right address is used. Stephen

Resteem for support our friend. God bless you.

Don't worry, bittrex gets these all the time. Your STEEM still went to bittrex, but since the memo is wrong, their computers don't know that it goes to your account. A rep just has to look at it and manually credit the deposit to your account. It goes a lot faster and with less stress if you put the right memo in and it all works automatically though!

Thanks for the comment. Like you say, hopefully someone from Bittrex can look into it and see the mistake. New Users can learn from how important it is to get right in the first place. Thanks again I appreciate it. Stephen

Send the address of the transfer to bittrex support

Stephen,

Check your transactions. I just sent you a few SBD. Not much, but I hope it covers a portion of your expenses promoting SteemIt.

We all get to caught up in the trying to do to much at once every now and then!

Steem on,
Mike

What can I say.....!! I am totally blown away Mike by your generosity. I wasn't expecting that. A true gentleman and I cannot thank you enough. I have said it before and will saying it again for anyone reading, you are a real credit to the Steemit Community and make Steemit what it is. Simply the BEST SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM AROUND..!! Thanks again Mike for your overwhelming support. These last 24 hours have been somewhat quite stressful and it is at times like this that it makes it worth while to pick yourself up, dust yourself down and carry on. Have a great day Mike. Stephen

Thank you Stephen!

I simply feel blessed to have found SteemIt when I did. It truly is a one-of-a-kind platform.

I greatly appreciate your advocacy and promotion of SteemIt. I am not as talented as you in promoting SteemIt, but I can do a small part in supporting and encouraging you to continue your efforts.

Have a fantastic week!
Steem on,
Mike

Definitely sucks. Being an old timer Bitcoiner, I have always learned to check amount and address 2-3 times. Even when you know its right for sure. And you always send a test amount when going somewhere new with transfers. This prevents big mistakes like huge fees, or what you indicated. I hope this works out for you man.

Thank you. I appreciate your support. Fingers crossed someone will look into it. Stephen

Ouch, that's very unfortunate man! I feel sorry for you, but I think this is a great lesson to learn!

Thank you. I appreciate your support. Hopefully this will help New Users to appreciate the importance of getting it right first time. Stephen

ouch! I hope you'll be able to sort that out with @bittrex!

Thanks. It's a nightmare and just takes the shine off what we have been doing on the promotion side. The second I hit the button I knew I had made a MASSIVE mistake and sent STEEM to my BITCOIN address. I nearly passed out..!! Stephen

hehe... I can only try to imagine the level of facepalm-ness you felt...

but hey... at least you didnt post your active key into the memo field!

...then for sure I would have passed out..!! :) Stephen

That is properly the worse feeling ever! :|

:/ i feel you bro... i accidentally sent 87 steem earlier this month to @steamit an inactive user.. i can only imagine what 500 steem must feel like :( ow

Thank you, and thanks for the support. Stephen

I am a newbie. This is a good info. I will have to be very careful when doing transfers/withdrawals to/from Steem wallet. Don't wanna to go thru the nightmares. I hope this get sorted out for you swiftly. Stay positive @Stephen.

Cheers!

Hi. Welcome to Steemit. Hopefully this Blog will help New Users to appreciate how important it is to get the right address. I appreciate your support and once again good luck on Steemit. Stephen

Thanks @Stephen.

I know how you feel because it happened something similar to me but on poloniex a month ago... I'm still waiting for my steem. I can't help but you have my support. If I get the money back, I'll write a post about it.

Sorry to hear the same thing happened to you. Keep us posted on how you get on. Thanks again I appreciate your support. Stephen

Gutted for you mate, you are the person that got me into cryptos and stacking silver and I wholly appreciate everything you are doing for everyday man/woman on the street. Pointing people in the right direction on these matters to spread awareness does not go unoticed.👍

Thank you. I appreciate your support. It's comments like this that makes you dust yourself down when things go wrong and get back up. Thanks again. Stephen

Hopefully this becomes a lesson for others steemit user

That was the intention. New Users who are withdrawing STEEM for the first time need to be doubly focused. Thanks for the support I appreciate it. Stephen

i'm so sorry to hear that :( yeah we should all pay an extra attention when making a transaction with digital currency

Thank you. Hopefully others will read this and not make the same mistake. Stephen

Bittrex is a very good exchange. Lets hope you get word shortly that they recovered your funds.

Thank you. Hopefully someone in Bittrex will see it was an obvious mistake. I appreciate your support. Stephen

I wouldn't worry too much, bittrex is a reputable business and they will surely sort it out for you, but yeah a lesson to keep in mind.

Thank you. I appreciate your support. You are right, a lesson learnt that everyone should learn from. Hopefully Bittrex will be able to see it was a mistake. Stephen

I made a similar mistake with a few hundred bucks of Steem on a Poloniex transfer... still waiting to hear back from support and see if it's salvageable. They are so backed up with support requests, who knows how long it'll take.

Good luck on the safe return of your hard-earned funds.

Luckily I'm still new enough that I double & triple check everything before I hit "send".

It's just this kind of thing that still causes "the Pucker".

Upvoted, Resteemed and following.

Sorry to hear that. Upoved and resteemed my friend. Hope you are able to recover those friends instead of losing them.

Resteemed so you can recover some more of your losses. We've all been there at some point, I hope you get all your money back!

I am feeling eqally lost today, with trying to find out where money was sent to, feeling bit frustrated today!

It is a good lesson to focus on the task at hand.

Wow. Good to know. Let us know how it all turns out.

With ANY crypto, check, double check... And do that again, just in case.

One way is to transfer in much smaller amounts. That way even if you mess up it's not a huge deal! I'm only a small fish so I withdraw 20, 30 STEEM at a time. Not a huge loss if something goes wrong. Once I gave someone 10 STEEM by accident. At least the karma is passed on!

Ahh the benefits of not having excess money...

Hey. In Cameroon we say ashia (something like be brave). Hopefully you will find the solution.

Wow that's terrible I guess my heart would stop if it would happen to me.

We need a greatly improved UI for sending money to exchanges in particular.

One of a few downsides of cryptonomics.

That is realy nasty.. this happens when you do things in a rush. I Am still waiting on a Poloniex trade of etherium in to a Wallet.. now 3 hours ago..

I will upvote your posts too average off a few cents per upvote, but hey you made fifty dollars on this post alone! thats fifty bucks down $950 to go!

This is why i never transfer more than a few hundred bucks of ANy crypto at a time! An with steem u hve no reason to save money on transactions feees as transactons are free and u can make lot of little transactons!

I am just most afraid of our accounts being hacked, having browsers hacked etc, i have extreme security meausures and hardware routers and i stlll wsh we had some sort of apper wallet with steemit?

or is the password we gget kind of like a paper wallet if we oly keepp it on paper but how canit only be on apper if its all online?

I would think its safest to have multiple steemit accounts and never keep more than a few thousand dollars in one steem wallet at a time? well then u can benefit from the steempower

i duno i like keeping my money powered up so a hacker would need to stay on my account for a whol week

ALSO if an account gets hacked, and its obvious the person lost control, can a majority of steemit witnesses actualy MANUALLY override the system and help retrieve a stolen account?

thanks for sharing@
I really appreciate it
