It is a little over a week since I posted about the Minnow Uprising. I hope everyone is getting geared up for it. There is no better time to put this into effect than now.
I took a look at the numbers for the month of June thus far and there is a nice shift in MVest distribution. The month is seeing the Dolphins and Minnows gain a great deal. Those two categories are, so far, outpacing the Whales and Orcas, not only in percentage, but in total MVests earned.
My view on this is that so much of the SP from the larger accounts was delegated over the last few months to entities that do not post on their own. For example, @steemhunt received more than 1.5M SP in delegation yet it does not take a ton from the author's reward pool. We see the same thing with the delegation by individuals to others applications such as DTube and Zappl. Even @tribesteemup received a 500K SP delegation yet only posts a few times a week.
The reward pool is tilted in favor of the authors. 75% of that amount goes to the authors with 25% going to the curators. With so much SP being allocated to accounts that do little to no posting, this opens up the doors for others to step in.
Speaking of the reward pool, according to @dragosoura, we are seeing record levels in the weekly payout of STEEM. This week, it is almost 750K STEEM that will be paid out to Steemians.
What is Minnow Uprising?
Basically it is spelled out in this chart put together by @arcange. It essentially is a numbers game. While the smaller accounts do not have the big SP levels, they do have large numbers. This is their advantage.
https://steemit.com/pt/@arcange/steemit-statistics-20180626-pt
When you look at the number of Minnows, Planktons, and Inactives, there exists the possibility to completely overwhelm the reward pool. It is my conclusion, after looking at the numbers for so many months, that the more that are on this blockchain posting, the more the rewards get spread out.
For that reason, since we cannot increase the number of users overnight, we have to increase the level of posting by those who are here. This is where the Minnow Uprising comes in.
The idea is to post 3-4 times a day. We have enough different applications on this blockchain to make that feasible. Every post need not be done on Steemit in blog form. There is parley.io which is similar to Reddit. Zappl allows for microblogging like Twitter. One can put up a @steemhunt or two. Of course, there is also @dtube and @dlive for video creation.
Using all the tools at our disposal will enhance the ability to post a great deal while still maintaining quality.
The goal is to get at least 10K of these smaller accounts posting on a massive scale. While that might sound like a huge number, consider the fact that over 1M accounts are either inactive, Red Fish or Minnow. Obviously it is tough to get the inactive going but if a few join the cause, it could shift things.
Here is a broad outline of what needs to take place.
- Post 3-4 times a day, everyday throughout the month of July.
- Use all your allotted daily upvotes.
- Self upvote, upvote each other, and join curation trails (@tribesteemup is a terrific one to join). Band together to get voting power in your hands, hence paying each other.
- Stay away from bid bots if you can. They are terrific for getting publicity. This is not about publicity but getting SP into the smaller accounts. Most bidbots are pushes at best from the financial end of things.
- Form voting circles if you can. Support each other.
- I would suggest you check out @minnowsmith and start using your computer power to do some mining of SBD. While this isn't going to net a ton, if every Minnow did this for a Red Fish, we would see those accounts grow. A .5 payout does not sound like much until you realize that is 1% for a 50 SP account. There are 123K accounts that could use that .5 payout.
STEEM offers a unique opportunity to chart a different path in the distribution arena. Since there is a daily reward pool, we can use this to amass more power on the platform. It is also something that we can earn through out efforts. No buy-in required.
There is a lot taking place right now that has me really excited. Each week, my belief that a single SP is going to be worth a tremendous amount is strengthened. It really is not going to take a ton of SP to equate to "life-changing money" for many.
Last night, I watched an interview which will be the subject of my post tomorrow morning. Without going into it, I will simply say there is a lot taking place that is going to really enhance STEEM. We are on the verge of some major breakthroughs that will alter the path of blockchain.
Steemians are a community. For that reason, it is up to us to take responsibility for this blockchain. There is an issue with the distribution of SP. Therefore, let us all do something about that. The power is in our hands. Individually we really cannot do much yet collectively there is great power here. It is time to exercise that.
The mantra for the month of July is:
Post Post Post
Comment Comment Comment
Upvote Upvote Upvote
It is time for massive action. The smaller accounts have the numbers. Put them to use.

I really like the idea behind it.
I just wonder if this won’t have a negative effect on the quality of post.
Just to give you an example: after replying to everyone, I started writing a post. The writing, the search for the right images, the formatting, the promotion... it took me hours.
I don’t have a clue on how to increase the number of posts I make a day that have some quality. I don’t want to write empty posts, just to write them.
I’m afraid lots of people will though, and the last thing we need here are more shitposts...
But maybe that’s just me. There are probably people out there who are less of a perfectionist and get multiple posts out a day.
What keeps playing in my mind is putting up a message recruiting people I trust to form a voting circle. The thing is that most of my followers are plankton or small red fish. Their voting power is very low. I can get 100 votes and still have a payout that is just $1. So I’m not sure this woulfd be a useful move.
Also, I’m very bad when it comes to the technical aspects of this platform. Let’s assume I find some people to circle-jerk with. What would be the best time to vote for each other? And does it even
Matter if no bigger minnows or dolphins would be playing along?
I’m all for it, but I must admit I’m a bit slow when It comes to tactical playing.
I would be very grateful if you could tell me what would be the most profitable strategy :0)

Thanks for the comment @simplymike.
That is why I keep mentioning the other applications. Yes making 4 blog posts a day can be difficult, if not impossible. However, there are other applications that could reach the 3-4 very easily.
1 blog post on Busy or Steemit
1 interesting photo using Steepshot
1 find on Steemhunt
1 link on parley.io that you find interesting
This is an example of a breakdown that could get it there without sacrificing quality (which is subjective anyway).
As for the circle voting, I think that is a great idea, not only for the challenge but long term. All those votes add up over time (along with helping the reputation which is already used on steemhunt.
I am part of the curation trail that @tribesteemup established. Each day I get .001-.004 paid to me from dtube as payout for upvotes there. It isnt a ton but I get it 3,4,5 times a day for votes the curation trail made. In my view, it all adds up over time.

Thanks for the tips. I assume it is indeed doable if using the apps, although searching for a Steemhunt find can take up a lot of time too :0)
I’ll definitely see if I can give it a shot!

I am probably one of the most excited people about this initiative. Trying to create awareness about it to as many people as I come across. I can't wait to see how the numbers start to roll out in July. You are truly remarkable for coming up with such a great initiative. Count me in for any support whatsoever.
I already doing 4posts per day so far, aiming for 5 in July and see how that goes. Cheers.
Kudos TM.

Hey @elsiekjay
I’ve been playing with the idea of making a deal with some people to circle-jerk. This would help every member of the group get more upvotes and grow faster.
(See my comment further down on this post).
I’m still in doubt, though, so I’d really value your opinion on this :0)

I'll try everyday.
Great initiative.
I don't know if I am a Minnow, Placton et al.
It's a very complex platform for a newbie.
I'm a newbie, I don't have hours per day to give to steemit yet ( I would if my income grew).
I love the idea of supporting each other, I'll do anything I can in this regard.
I have steem etc and happy to give.
Now what? :-)
Just to say, @lloyddavis brought me here, @shanibeer @vibe100monkeys and a couple of others have kept me here.

Next it would be nice if minnows would all gang together and start voting for witnesses, ones which actually benefit them, their content and the ecosystem as a whole.

Hey @taskmaster4450,
thanks again for promoting my project and spread a word about it! It so great to see new people coming and using the service every day. Two days ago there were ~30 ppl paid out.
TIP: You can now use the "support a random minnow" button, which selects a already project user based on some criteria like SP, post count and activity. I'm thinking about changing this to select a single random minnow per day, to get one minnow a much higher boost when multiple accounts mine for him. :)
Are you up for mining today? Let's select @puskas today. :)
Cheers

An amazing idea...the random minnow support. I only hope hundreds start participating so that the amount of SBD being paid out begins to add up. I know it isnt a big amount per person but it does add up over time.
One question...why SBD and not STEEM?

@taskmaster4450,
do you like the always random thing or would you also be fine with selecting a minnow a day to mine for? :) Yeah, more people need to use it, than it'll add up for sure. I mean the record for now was a payout of 0.256$. And it looks like today could be even slightly more. :)
Ehm, I didn't asked this myself yet, your the first questioning this.. and it's good one, but do you think it would make a difference anyway? For me steem dollars feels like the coin that everybody sends around to each other.

Yes it does help. One thing that increased posting does is that it puts the game of luck on your side. The more posts you put up, the greater the chance that a larger account happens upon it. From there, who knows what happens.

Well I like the mantra! I have just been adopted by @preparedwombat, who will try to help me to reach 1K SP. Because he was the first one to believe in me (with a small free delegation) and don' want to let him down! This adoption is based on one of your posts! Maybe you should try to encourage more big SP holders to do the same (or even better join @preparedwombat with his challenge :)).
Will be on a holiday in the first 2 weeks of July, but I still will keep on posting! There is no use in not posting a picture or small story from the holiday! Otherwise, I will not get the busy.pay and steembasicincome upvotes! And like you are always telling every little bit helps!
Cheers,
Peter

I appreciate the desire to motivate others. That is what is needed around here. We need to motivate all to partake in the STEEM blockchain and help others. There is so much here that is really shaping up.

It’s like I said in my comment below. We need to pursuade some larger accounts to cooperate. Because plankton and small minnows upvoting eachother is not going to make such a difference. Sometimes I get 100 votes, while my payout is barely $1...

Yes, but the low foodchain also has to support each other! I would be thrilled with 100 $0.01 upvotes, all handed out at 100%!
But Mike, you have over 2000 SP, maybe you should also adopt somebody! I already did this but I need to think about dumping him because he isn’t active! We could support some-one until that Steemian reaches 250 SP. From then on a bigger account could take over!
Now I am writing it down, I feel that we should do this! I will adopt another, will you do the same!
@taskmaster4450, maybe an idea to make a 2 phase program of it! Steemians with between 1 and 2K SP to adopt one untill 250 SP!
Like you said all things matter!

I came up with the adoption idea a while ago. It’s on my list, but before I make such a commitment, I need to make sure I can be around a lot of the time. Because it’s not just about delegating SP, but also providing support.
I just had three good days in a row, so I have been pretty active. But I can’t predict if this will last. These last 3 or 4 weeks, I’ve been pretty inactive - felt so bad that I couldn’t get myself to be around.
Once I’m back on my feet, I will definitely do so.
(I am still delegating some SP to people who are in the bandwidth-error zone. But that doesn’t require more than only the delegation. If I want to adopt someone, I want to do it right)

That could be a cause of the shift. The fact that the price of STEEM dropped is enabling the smaller accounts to add a significant amount to their stake. $500 doesnt add much to an account with 100K SP...but it is huge to a Minnow. Perhaps a number of smaller accounts are using the low STEEM price to add.
I think that is certainly part of the equation.

I plan on following through with this idea also for the month of July, but look I am not a great writer so do that mean I can't participate? I am a minnow. I had no ideal that everyone using steemit have to be professional writers. I love the idea of anyone who are looking out for our interest as minnows and below, thank you.
