It is not too hard to figure out that I believe STEEM is one of the leading cryptocurrencies out there, on one of the best blockchains we have.
STEEM is leading a charge that I feel will last the better part of the next decade. Over that time, we are going to see many changes throughout society driven, mostly, by technology. Many want to debate the merits of some of the predictions, yet when it comes to technology, it is fair obvious what is taking place.
Automation is only going to keep increasing. This is a fact that I believe most people accept. The piece that I think many miss is the pace at which these changes are occurring. There are many technological innovations which are taking place just below the surface. The problem with this is that few see the unrest coming. This leaves a certain segment, if not all, of society unprepared.
We are going to see many problems developing over the next decade. As I surf through the different technology sites, I see many of the challenges that lie ahead being discussed. What is interesting is that many of these topics are starting to make it to mainstream publications.
As I follow the debate, I find myself asking why is this even being discussed? Sometimes I feel like I the one with a secret that none of these other people have. I guess that is because I have the answer that they all overlook.
The answer to many of the problems is blockchain and crytocurrency.
I will come across an article about Facebook and the fake news. How do we combat this? How can we trust a company like this to not censor different viewpoints (you can't)?
The answer is STEEM.
Another story talks about Amazon and Starbucks wanting to kill cash (or what is left of it). This is going to affect the most vulnerable Americans the most. Of course, most of them do not have access to the banking system and end up being raped by the loansharks at the payday loan and buy here/pay here places. Obviously, in this battle we know the corporations will win (they always win). So what are we going to do?
The answer is STEEM
Still another article will talk about the massive job disruption caused by automation. Where are these people going to find jobs? They aren't. Perhaps we should retrain them? You can't, they lack the basic skills for tomorrow's workforce plus you don't have time.
Then they will propose the solution of universal basic income which sets off a debate. Elon Musk simply ends the discussion saying this is something we are going to have to do. He is one of the people creating stuff that is going to eliminate jobs, I think it best to listen to him.
So then we get another debate, how do we pay for it? Liberals, conservatives, libertarians, anarchists, all throwing their hats in the ring. Some want to expand a broken-down welfare system thinking that "this time the government will do better". Others want to tax the hell out of anyone with any money at all. Even the esteemed Bill Gates wants to tax robots.
Hey I can see their viewpoint. Considering the governments long track record of successfully taking care of things, I can see why they would want to turn there for the solution.
So if the government isn't the solution, what is?
The answer is STEEM.
We already see people on here earning incomes. To start, many in third world countries are earning a week's worth of income off a few posts. As the price of STEEM goes higher, I believe you will start to see more people in first world nations living off the proceeds from this blockchain. In fact, there are many in North America who were able to pay some bills they otherwise would not have been able to pay.
The answer is STEEM.
Now bear in mind, it is only a part of the solution. There will be many other cryptocurrencies that are also a part of the tokenized world. Nevertheless, at this point, STEEM is leading the charge to a new world. Tens of thousands of lives are already being positively affected and we are still in the early stages. People who are involved now are going to be able to help out others in ways they cannot even begin to imagine. The wealth that is being generated on here already is helping people to amass fortunes they never had before. For many, saving up a few thousand dollars was impossible. Yet when one has 500 SP, that person has a few thousand dollars in wealth.
Cryptocurrencies go to the heart of most problems society is facing. The central issue is we have a monetary system where only a few truly profit. The rest are subjected to work that helps feed a system which they do not enjoy the majority of the benefits. This creates an environment where money is scarce. Not only do individuals lack resources but so do projects which could benefit all of humanity.
STEEM and the other cryptocurrencies will change this. Here is a world where abundance is the norm. We already see that on this blockchain where different projects are funded with STEEM. Go one step further and look at the projects we are expecting to come on line shortly where the main resource is a cryptocurrency that was created. Imagine the innovation that will take place over the next 5 years when the only thing required to get a project launched is an idea. The funding is simply a process that one needs to undergo (assuming it is viable and people will buy ICO).
We are ushering in a new era and we already see that on this blockchain. What we are witnessing is the elimination of competition. The bankster world made us believe that everything is a competition. Businesses fight with each other for market share. Their goal is to win by getting the deals. I win, you lose..I am the better man. That is the old model.
On STEEM, nothing is competing with anything else. Is D.Tube in competition with Zappl? Is busy.org competing against chainbb? Is this article in competition with the one that was posted just ahead of it? Are the ideas on here limited so that we have to fight over them and claim "ownership"?
Of course not. People post what moves them which leads people to read that which interests them. Post something of quality and a percentage of the people will upvote you. Interact with them will only lead to more people doing the same. Try to do this alone or "win" over everyone else, and you will lose. Notice how those who are screaming the loudest on Steemit appear. While that might be the norm on sites like Facebook (or at the local bar), on here they stand out. Most Steemians are taking the next step up the chain in the maturation process of humanity. Some, though, are a bit slower to embrace this.
On STEEM, fear stands out like a zit on prom night. All the ways we try to mask it only serve to illuminate it further. The reason for this is that is scarcity mentality. It is bankster-programmed thinking. STEEM is about abundance. There is plenty of STEEM. If it does become scarce (because of demand) then the price will increase creating even more abundance. Unlike bankster currency which goes down in value, STEEM can go up. There also is no entity, i.e. Central Bank, pulling in the reins when it decides to. If STEEM wants to go to $10,000 because that is what the market deems, then so be it.
I challenge everyone to start looking at the world through the eyes of STEEM. Try it for yourself. You will be amazed at the problems you hear people discussing and it will come to you, "STEEM is the answer".
And what STEEM can't solve, bet the ranch some Steemian will create a cryptocurrency to solve it.
Full STEEM ahead.

Yes @flauwy.
It quickly moves past the rewards and into the realm of being change for the world. We are all part of laying the foundation that is going to be used by the people who follow. Those of us who come on here and introduce people to a newer model will only foster that same behavior. We realize there is no fear with cryptocurrencies, especially STEEM. This is going to be a truly booming token...we are going to see much higher levels which means even a few hundred SP is going to be very valuable.
And the world needs to understand this. The STEEM model can solve a lot of the issues...it is up to us to ensure those methods are carried out on here and we all help each other realize this outcome.

I'm not sure what the answer is... is it steem?
(sorry... feeling a little unrestrained and silly today!)
I see this as a circle of confusion- people keep talking and talking but end up right back at the beginning. No one is getting things done.
I can remember when no one had a debit card. Now everyone does. I can remember when I used to write checks to pay bills or buy groceries.
Time are changing and advancing, so why shouldn't our currency? Right...

I agree. So many of today's problems can and will be solved with cryptos. I agree steem is an amazing platform. Every time our government tries to fix something they alway make it ten times worse. Steemit is so amazing to me. Because it is honest. I started about a month ago. I have worked hard and I have been rewarded. I am not rich but I have a nice savings in SP and all because I put in the time and effort. This is what the world needs to be rewarded for their efforts. When you make a Youtube or Facebook post you are excerting effort but you are working for the MAN. Start working for yourself with Steem and all its platforms.

I think you are right about Steem. Only a few will see it. That is true of nearly all paradigm changes that take place. Who would have seen the horses being replaced by internal combustion engines back then?
Very few.
In my youth. A telephone, (landline) was a luxury that few had at the beginning. A long walk to a neighbor's house was necessary.
Would I have thought that I could see what I see today?
Not a chance.
We will not visualize all the changes that are coming and will take place.
But, I think that you are right. Steem and some other crypto currencies will be a part of that brave new world.
Thank you
Francis

Thank you for the comment @francisk. I think this is compounded by the fact that many of the changes are under the surface or behind the scenes. People can see a house being built, yet they do not see changes in construction methods.
That is what is taking place here. We are all aware the real story is blockchain, not crypto...yet that is what people see. The power is underneath the surface that is why people cannot treat it as a currency.
It is great to get a time line from someone who saw so many changes. Even in my lifetime, I remember a time without computers, cable television, and when I was the remote control for the television set for my dad.
People do not realize the pace of change...and it is wonderful.

Wow, this was great! I'm beyond bullish on Steem and agree with you 100%. We might look back in a decade and be thankful we are here now. The innovation is coming by the truck loads and this platform is bursting to explode.
What is so remarkable to me, is that there are still ONLY 700,000 accounts here. Just wait until some of the SMT projects start to launch. Gives me chills just thinking about it.
But something you said really stuck out to me....Abundance!
This is a foreign concept for most in the world but it seems to flow here in this community. The more we accept that there is enough to go around and stop being scared that someone may have more than the next person....Great things can happen.
Utopian thoughts? Maybe....But I choose to live and believe that we live in an abundant world (and social platform! lol)
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Under the old model, @jongolson, it absolutely are utopian thoughts. Of course, we have something on here names utopian.io...perhaps we arent too far off the mark. Or, at least, we arent the only ones thinking this way.
Abundance is coming since the Internet came to money. Anything the Internet touches it copies and multiplies. It did it with information, communication, music, and video. Now it is time for money to experience the same thing. As we progress along, not only will the value of the tokens we acquire increase (some at least, there will be duds in there), we are also going to see the number of tokens we get on a regular basis increase also. There are many that are starting to emerge in cryptocurrency 2.0. This means people can acquire them.
What needs to take place is the maturity of humanity. We are going to see some rebellion against this concept, especially by the existing power centers. Fortunately, they cannot stand up to the force of blockchain. Yet as individuals, we need to change our thinking from one of scarcity to abundance. This means operating at a higher level, one not based upon competition and combat. There is no need to be degrading or confrontational. There is more there than people realize.

That is the power of this medium....it gives people an option. No longer are they relegated to what the governments put out. That is why I am such a fan of basic income although I believe it will be crypto driven and not government driven.
This is an incredible freedom. Giving people the ability to say no withdraws the power of tyranny. The reason tyranny exists is because people cannot say that....they have to abide.
That is changing. Many on here have a much brighter future simply because of the potential of STEEM. The fact that we are all amassing STEEM in our accounts means that we are giving ourselves options.
Whether it be the government, a dreary job, or some pension that sucks, here is another way.

Really cryptos are just the power of decentralization with a monetary value attached.
Most of the worlds problems stem from centralized power structures. The elite sit across our backs and ride us to exhaustion. They keep our attention divided and create problems that they then claim to be able to solve, all they need is more money.
People are finally tiring of this rent seeking and are turning to other paradigms. In doing so they are shattering the illusions of our masters. We see the man behind the curtain now and there is no stopping us.
I personally can't wait. This scarcity mindset might have once served a purpose in our dim past but for several hundred years it has been nothing but cancer. A blight on mankind that must be removed if we are to move forward.
Bye bye banksters.
Thanks for the post.

The hardest thing about Steemit is trying to explain it to some people.
I mostly get, " how do you spend it?" "Who takes it?" And "it's not real money!".
I feel like I'm trying to get someone to an Amway meeting.
I guess if everybody understood it, we would see 50,000 sign ups a day. Off course now a days, people don't have the patience to stay at a job for 3 years much less learn a monetary platform that only takes creating quality content daily and taking the time to seek out quality content to upvote.
People are too busy taking selfies. Steem is my future freedom. I have embraced this!

As for the other stuff, I know where you are coming from @wonderwop. I get that also. Unfortunately, it isnt up to you to teach them about cryptocurrencies...
Just ask them if they know how their car runs (make sure they arent mechanics first). When they say they dont know, say, see you still drive. Just go comment, upvote, and post and dont worry about it...
And yes when there are 50K signing up a day, the cat will be out of the bag by then...and it will be quickly moving past the early adopter stage.

Through my utopian focused glasses I agree with all you say. The world systems are broken and STEEM is a viable solution to most, if not all these issues. Yet after the euphoria wears off just a little there remains three haunting demons.
The first demon is that the Internet (in all its fragile glory, technical or political) remains a single point of failure for all things blockchain. Fact is that if my government blocks access to the blockchain it's useless to me even if it's decentralized and all the nodes are working. That and hundreds of other scenarios play out in my blockchain nightmares.
The second demon that is a thorn in my being is that the governments fully invested in their respective fiat currencies are not just going to say "Yea, that's a great idea so we'll just give up!" The powers are very real and very powerful. If the major governments of the world want the marginalize cryptocurrencies they can and I predict will. But they won't do it by force. They will simply assimilate them Borg style. (I'm sure you follow the discussion concerning exchanges and gateways for STEEEM. We're scared of them already!)
The third gut-wrenching splash in the face is that for any currency to function there must be an economy that drives the flow of the currency. That means that humans, the greedy, self-serving souls they are, will do ALL things possible to consolidate the STEEM wealth under their control. Can anyone honestly tell me they don't see this already happening right here on the various STEEM blockchain platforms? Yes, there are certain magnanimous souls on the platforms and I truly laud them for their actions. It's just that I'm not sure they are the majority. There are significant stakeholders who are clearly here as an investment. In fact we NEED them and they deserve to profit from their investments. But they are rich and will become even more rich. So how is this STEEM economy going to be any different from our current economies? For the social order of the world to change we humans must change, not our currency. Changing the currencies of the world won't change the people of the world.
I want to believe, truly I do. Help my unbelief! Cast out my demons! Remove my zits!

How will this work? Please understand that over the past few weeks, I have come to put a lot of my faith on Steem which is a direct result of your posts and posts of some of the other fellow Steemians. But I am not sure I understand how Steem can be solution to all problems.
Take for example, the problem of fake news. How will Steem control it? It may as well become harder to control it here as there is no single point of truth. A fake news specially on issues which create deep divide among people can blow out of proportions on an unrestrained network like Steem.
What do you think?
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Stuff that is fake or outright lies can be downvoted. That is the power of the community network. People decide what is relevant, not the corporate entity or its relationship with some sites.
On here, if something is totally off the mark, people can point that out. While we tend to have "opinion" pieces written now, at some point we might see a lot of serious news articles on here. Some will have perspective while others will have facts (or misfacts). On facebook, one can comment about a "news" story but it stays. On here, if enough people do it, it turns invisible. While still here, when one comes across it, it is harder to read and the comments will be there.

I understand how the system is supposed to work. However, I am doubtful whether it will always work that way especially in cases of politically, religiously or racially motivated posts. There have been many cases on FB itself where FB failed to identify such fake news which created widespread disruptions and rioting. Fake news specifically manufactured to incite violence is extremely hard to control. High SP is no sure guarantee of wisdom and cannot be relied upon to stop the spreading of such news. On the other hand, upvote by a whale can help spread such fake news.
Experience on Steemit of how low quality content by certain whales still make the trending charts shows that it's not always easy to stop spread of undesired content.
Point is, we will actually have to wait and see how this unfolds. It can turn out to be a great control on fake news or can add unnecessary fuel and aid it's spread.

On our way to change the world we have to take a lot of hurdles. One of them will be the development of the ability to transfer wealth from the fiat world into the steem world. Currently the primary process serving this task is indeed crypto speculation and investment. People are buying steem for speculative purposes or as a long term investment. We have to find ways to acquire a much larger portion of available wealth creating a continous incoming stream, keep this influx in our system and maybe even reinvest it to accelerate the process.

This sort of thing is what opened my eyes to the possibilities of Steemit enabling me to make a start on a not for profit project that I've been thinking about for ages. It gives me the opportunity to start doing a little something online without interference from outside forces (ie: government) to see if I can make it work and help make a difference. Hopefully I can make it work and eventually move on to more physical applications and I don't think I could have had the courage to do that without steem.

This is why the Philippines Steemit Community is growing so fast with so many stories of people using their creative talents to earn money. We have people who are able to buy milk and diapers for their babies, stay at homes getting a way to earn while taking care of the family, children able to send their parents and grandparents to hospitals and medicines.
A person here only needs to earn 2 SBD a day and they will earn more than a minimum wage worker who works 12 hours a day, 6 days a week! It is disrupting the need for some to go abroad and work because the extremely talented ones earn 100k pesos a month which is even higher than some managers and supervisors in a white collar industry job.
This is why we are trying to get people to switch from Facebook to Steem because here they will have an opportunity.
Not to mention what Steemit can do for the donations and crowdfunding for different advocacy.
Steem is the answer to change and disrupting the system.

Absolutely agreed. Full STEEM ahead! The blockchain is this generation's Internet. Just as the Internet started off purely as a communication network, it is now just about everything you could imagine. It is where we live our lives, buy products and hang out with others. In many ways, I think we will see the same transformation of the blockchain. In fact, we've already some of it already with Steemit. At one time, blockchain = Bitcoin. But as we're seeing, the blockchain is so much more. It is going to unlock opportunity and wealth on an epic scale, even more so than the Internet because it will truly involve all of humanity. Just as people now talk of the Internet as a "basic right" in all parts of the world, the same mindset change is coming for the blockchain.

At the point of sounding like a regurgitating monkey - I agree wholeheartedly, again. How do I know that it is true? Well there is a a giant steaming elephant in the backyard, and he's hungry. For the most part steem and cryptocurrency and the future effects on society's norms are largely ignored by the main street media. How can that be? Well, they don't want to talk about it - yet. Until they figure out how to control it - if they can. If they can't, they must spin it in a way that they wish. Sorry - they can't. It's a glorious day in the neighborhood.

Another great post.
Hearing about the regulations makes me wonder what the guys in the European Union are going to decide in March... that is something that can have a HUGE impact on every crypto in the world... and I definitely look forward to it.

Ever since starting Steem, I've found I care more and more about it, and less about the other stuff on the Internet. My main problem though, is that there are still places that offer better content than Steem. I think that, at least with Steemit and DTube, providing content that a person will enjoy is still something that needs to be worked on before it will really flourish.

It's true. Cryptocurrency is now developing very rapidly. Together with it is developing and Steemit. But I think, if most people would consider Steemit only as a means of income, where will this lead? I think, that there are no inexhaustible sources. I believe in the future of cryptocurrency, Steem and Steemit, but sometimes I think, what if this world collapses?

That's the story that should be told many times over.
Even if, and that's a big IF, someone buys this argument that crypto is fake and Steemit is nothing but just another scam, how does it hurt people to come here and spend some time rather than wasting it on enganging in useless debates on FB.
There are people who are not just making money here but also bringing fresh people to this amazing platform.
I agree when you say that the next decade is going to be the year of Steem 🤘

you need the people to be activators and activated way passed the money, to actually go out in the world and make changes passed your front room, bedroom and computer desk, actively educating and curating/shaping other peoples uneffective knowledge -- the 'all boats rise' situation, bringing up those around you, sharing in the collective wealth of resources, optimizing those networks and services that run poorly, that's how we make real change in the global world, not just our own local street! -- thanks for this post.
