I last reported the numbers in a post that covered through April 30th, 2019.
Each month I monitor what is going on with new accounts and the amount of MVests in each category. I do this to determine what trends are taking place.
Now that we are at end of month, time to post the numbers again.
I want to thank @arcange for the work done each day compiling these numbers and making the charts.
We have 3 months worth of data for analysis purposes to see how the 90 trend might be.
The first chart is from August of 2017, the month I started on Steem. It is placed here to provide some contrast to see how things are changing over a longer period of time.
Here is the breakdown.

To start: The system is working as designed.
The Whales are losing power.
There are now 11,775 accounts who qualify as either Minnow or higher. It was only a few months back when the total accounts above the approximate 500 SP (level to be a Minnow) was under 10K.
On April, 2019, the Whales and Orcas had 296454 MVests (75.28% of the total). On May 31, 2019, 296,976 (75.11% of the total)...a decrease of .23%. On June 30, 2019, 296,352 MVests (75.06% of the total)...a decrease of .29%.
There was not a lot of movement this past month as you can see. The Whales and Orcas were down slightly with the Dolphins and the Planktons inching up. Minnows were flat this month.
It will be interesting to watch the changes when (if) Hard Fork 21 goes into effect. Also, with so many other projects gaining interest that are delivering tokens, will this lead to an increase in activity from the smaller accounts, thus earning not only the Steem-Engine tokens, but also SP on the back end.
This month did see the totals the Whales and Orcas are holding keep drifting lower. We are getting closer to the 75% mark. When I started, those two categories accounted for 90% of the total.

Very interesting, that now seems like a slow but steady 3 month trend.
I wonder if it's possible for @arcange or some to tweak the stats so they also take account of steemmonsters cards and holdings in other tokens too, all at their steem value.
I imagine that would tip a fair few dolphins up to Orcas.

Im really not sure about this...
What about whales who are just remanaging their accs?
You have no idea if these whales sell or split accs..

That is true. There is no way to tell in any cryptocurrency.
We can only go based upon what we know.
Is Steem any worse than the rest? No way to tell other than just the numbers presented.
The Whales could all be 3 people for all we know.

There could be a fallout of this distribution away from whales and orcas and that is the steem tokens are going into weak hands who earn and then run to exchanges to encash thereby continuously keeping pressure on steem price.
I am not 100% sure of this but this thought has been coming to my mind many times when i see that many projects that are not doing anything but are valued way above steem and when I look at their distribution then I find them highly concentrated in few hands. EOS itself is an example.

Crypto market is mostly a joke now. Over time it will become better as it gains maturity.
