Why There Is Not The Negativity On Steemit Like Other Social Media Sites

in steem •  7 years ago

Anyone who spends a short period of time on here quickly realizes that Steemit is different than the other social media sites. Whereas they are cesspools for negativity and personal attacks, we do not really see that on here. Overall, most people are positive with a friendly approach.

Even when people disagree with the particular author, the comments, if any are left, are thoughtful and respectful. This is a far cry from the likes of Facebook or YouTube where people call each other all kinds of vile stuff.

So the question is why is there such a difference on Steemit compared to the other sites?

To start, I think the fact that most are here to make money means that our compensation is tied to how well we play with others. Those who have a confrontational attitude, can quickly see their reputation pushed to zero. At the same time, those people can be ostracized to the degree where their posts/comments make nothing. This simply is not sound business.

I guess we see this behavior in the "real" world too. Have you ever noticed how that asshole boss is super kind to customers? When we have money on the line, we often sign a different tune.

This is the most obvious reason and one that will probably continue.

That said, could there be something else going on?

I believe there is another factor which will expand as cryptocurrencies become more mainstream and people start to realize what is happening. As I stated on a number of occasions, we are heading towards an Era of Abundance. The old model is going to be moved out for blockchain. With blockchain, a decentralized system, money is going to be awarded to people who are presently not participating in the creation of wealth around the world.

On Steemit, I think we already see that attitude. People who regularly read my writings know I am a bit optimistic about where the price of STEEM will be down the road. I put together the 1KSP program because I believe having an account of $100K by the end of 2018 will be life changing money for most. In fact, for those who have 100 SP, which is an easily attainable level, I think you will have that kind of money in a few years.

At present, many people who signed on have accounts worth $500-$1000 for doing something they enjoy doing. This provides some insight into what is going to take place as this blockchain gains in popularity. Those same accounts will be worth $10,000-$20,000 when STEEM hits $20, which is not a pie-in-the sky figure.

Therefore, I believe there is a lot less negativity on Steemit simply because there is not the same fear among the user base that exists elsewhere. Angry is a very common way people mask their fear. We live in a society that had the scarcity mindset instilled in it by the banksters. This creates a hopelessness in the minds of many. The Internet offers a perfect medium for one to try and gain some semblance of control. By blasting another person, anonymously, one feels that he or she has some power. Of course, this is an illusion since we know the banksters control every aspect of society.

Fortunately, blockchain (STEEM) is going to change that.

While a great deal of this is conjecture at this point, most on here see the benefits to STEEM. We just had a major pullback in crypto and STEEM held above $4. The pricing action on the token is solid. I believe most people can justify, in their minds, a much higher price. Again, even an account with a few hundred SP will see a value of many thousands of dollars. Considering many people only started in the last couple months, this is quite a feat.

The first 1M on STEEM will be the early adopters. I am certain that every person who is on here at this time and dedicated to contributing on a regular basis will profit handsomely. Naturally, this can be taken many different ways so I will spell it out: hundreds of thousands of dollars are going to be awarded to each of these people over the next few years. This is the opportunity before each of us.

Hence, what is there to be scared of? Most of our financial woes will be disappearing.

For that reason, why upset the apple cart?

Negativity just doesn't pay here, some people think it leads to "brown nosing" but really thats just in comparison to the troll fest that is the rest of the internet

Indeed, Steem is still cheap and should be bought with two fists on any day, all day long!

I think it's a shame that so many get discouraged and quit after only a couple of weeks because they're payouts are so small. I wish there was some way to really reach the newcomers and make them understand that today's pennies are tomorrow's dollars.

I agree.

Facebook and Twitter don't payout anything to their users, so even pennies in crypto is a big improvement. I see people spending huge amounts of time on Reddit, and the only thing they get in return for their lengthy contributions is upvotes, and maybe the occasional donation of Reddit Gold.

Even spending a few minutes of your day posting well-written comments on Steemit is far more rewarding!

People are always going to get discouraged unless they have the determination and commitment necessary. The same goes for starting a youtube channel for example, the fact is that very few people are going to find quick success, and most doesn't have the will power to keep going and play the long game. I don't see a problem with that personally, it's just the way it is.

Unfortunately I think they're taking the wrong approach if they quit for that reason. The money should only be the icing on the cake, at least to start with. It takes time to build up any business or social media account. Having said that, a lot of people quit at them too!

Glad you're still around. 😁

I’m glad to be here! You know, I’ve thought a lot about the fact that so many people jump on Facebook or Twitter or whatever, with no expectation of payout, and they’re hammerin’ on it all day long. But when offered the chance to make a little money, they walk away when it’s not as much as they hoped for, or as much as so-and-so is earning. I guess some are happy with nothing, as long as everyone else has nothing, but having a little isn’t enough if someone else has more.

I’m still here because I love this community. Facebook couldn’t afford to pay me what I would require to play their game.

The newbies need to have a business plan on how to push out content day by day despite the fact that the pennies are so low. I am very happy if it generates $0.02 and 1 people like my post other than me. It shows me that I am improving after a little over a month here on Steemit. (I wish I had found Steemit earlier. Haha)

I do think that most of the people that are getting into cryptocurrency have a more positive approach to life. I like change and not putting up with a broken system. I might put up with Facebook if it wasn't for the advertising, I think that's a huge advantage with Steemit.

this is exactly the reason why I'm posting exclusively now for Steemit, I can be myself here. In my case when I post something on other social media sites like Facebook, I feel that I am being judged and prejudiced and that people who are called my friends on those sites are actually just checking on my posts to find some negative things about me or some things that they can talk about me behind my back. Not to mention, I also cringed every time my friends and relatives would talk to me about things they saw on those sites that are actually fake news that are posted irresponsibly and made to appear true.

The fake news thing does get annoying. I don't like that even when you point out that it isn't factual, people still take notice of it. There's fake news from both sides of the political debate as well, when one side cries fake, I have to wonder why they don't mind spreading fake news if it's good for them.

Considering many people only started in the last couple months, this is quite a feat.

Unbelievable, I signed on six months ago but did not get to post until a month later because my phone was stolen. Now in five months precisely, a lot has happened. It seems like 'unbelievable'. A lot of bills have been picked and I do believe that our financial woes will soon be over. Thank you for sharing boss

wow - so happy for you! I have yet to begin, but the sheer insanity of FB censorship is pushing me harder each day.

Please put in your best here. You will be amazed in no distant time. Honestly FB is a lot of time wasting.

Steemit platform stands out! It's not only helping people, but motivating them how to have a positive outlook in life, how to be patient and how to be a better person. Here we spread love and positivity, not anger and stupidity. So steem on and we'll reap the fruit of our efforts in due time.

I agree with your points! I think so much has to do with the fact that I interact with like minded positive people like you!

Steem on!

Glad to see on my first day joining that I walk into something I completely agree on. 🙂

Then let me be the first to welcome you to the platform. Take some time to interact, read the FAQs and watch some guides. It can be a bit of a learning curve to begin with, but I'm sure it will be worth the effort!

Great piece love your positive outlook on Steem....I also agree, blessings and much love....Stop by my page sometime and read my daily meditation/thoughts you will enjoy them...Blessings🙏

Other social media sites how I don't know. In my opinion of social media in the best of the steemit.

When i first started on steemit, i made pennies, and i encourage guys around me to Join the moving train, But they are discourage after their fourth to five post turn out to be pennies. I go on regardless and today My earning on steemit is better..

Really inspired reading this, glad to be here now, creating and sharing and listening and learning and changing my idea of the future. ! Brilliant

Interesting find ...really a great post...can i resteem it?

You do not need permission to re-steem something on here...you can simply re-steem whatever you desire.

Ok,Thanks...Resteem Done

Thanks as always for the great content @taskmaster4450. I agree with why you think there is less anger in general or this platform.

As well as that, being an early adopter feels great. I believe in the future of steemit the same way that you do, so we should all be in great position in the years to come!

To start, I think the fact that most are here to make money means that our compensation is tied to how well we play with others.

Such a nice way to say we care about how others view us! Being professional and having your page represent who you are is not something to be taken lightly. Conducting yourself as if you were in a three-piece suit or business attire in a company meeting is displayed here on steemit (even though most of us probably work here in our sweats and jammies). First impressions and how you behave can either make or break your steemit career.

I think that the people in Steemit are more positive for mainly 2 reasons.

  • Unlike other social networks, in Steemit you are playing with money, people want to earn money and are kind to keep it, this does not mean that person is not really friendly, but tries not to be annoying at all so that nobody Mark it with a flag or something similar.

  • People are happy, either because the money they earn here makes life easier for them in some aspects, or because they are aware of the bright future that Steemit and the entire cryptocurrency market can have, and how they are part of something that will change completely the world.

Usually people from poor countries feel quite happy for the money they earn, because even if they are only a couple of dollars, for them it is more than they would earn working in their country.

And people from more developed countries are usually more aware of what it represents, beyond just money, this whole cryptocurrency revolution.

Nailed it @taskmaster
You made it crystal clear to everybody i think..
So now it is just up to us..To be consistent and to contribute with quality material.
I can even imagine steemit to be the next Google(if it s not already)People can come here and take useful information about almost anything...
So people...fasten your seatbelts and fingers crossed

I think that a lot of optimism can be explained by the joy of people from the fact that they saw and understood how their money is making new money. How can they not become an optimists :)

Я думаю, что большое количество оптимизма можно объяснить радостью людей от того, что они увидели и поняли, как их деньги – делают новые деньги. Как тут не станешь оптимистом:)

I think the fact that most are here to make money means that our compensation is tied to how well we play with others.

You are totally right, most of the people is here to make money and they do not want to acquire enemies, it may be so dangerous :)

I hope everyone will be happy in this social community!

Steemit is the best social media site.

think other online networking, for example, Facebook Twitter, steemit's constitution is a little special case, and here we can demonstrate our feeling fairly, and by that sentiment, we turn into a methods for winning cash, so we get a social website like numerous glad steemit.
Resteemed and upvoted donr dear

Hiii @taskmaster4450,

There is no doubt Steemit is different from other social media forums. Positivity and high Approach with positive thoughts is its moto, due to which its going much papular everywhere.
I fully Agreed with your thinking. thanks for sharing such a thoughtful article.

When I first started here I had a rather bleak view of life and the Steemit. It was nothing more than an online diary for me where I can remove my mask, bitch around and feel dejected.

It didn't help that the first group I had here was pretty negative. They would be all praises and gratitude to a certain whale but when she started not upvoting their content thet got nasty and personally commenting about her looks and weight that they only acted friendly.

I got out there quick. That negativity and bitterness was too much even for me.

December was my birthday and my rebirth. I was a changed person who still had the darkness but hope was shining forth as well.

My first two months went by so fast and in a state of catatonic drifting. Upon rebirth last month until now because of the change in attitude I have doubled the number of engagers I have on my posts. I have become active in going around and giving good comments.

I started educating and mentoring new people and it is deeply fulfilling. I find that succeeds here are those that build lasting relationships and promote good community spirit.

Those that are humanitarian in outlook gain influence and followers. It's about respect, positivity and good manners that makes us trust each other.

Sure there disputes, flag wars going on right now but generally the population are hopeful and kind. This is what's going to work in a gift economy.

Here nice guys don't finish last.

Greatly explained post. Steemit is only positive. The world is an abu dant place. On steemit people work together to become big 👍 i resteemed this post because its great content @taskmaster4450

Thanks for sharingsharing,i like it

I truly appreciate your post and REALLY needed to read something like this today. FB has become the most negative place lately, for me anyway.

Very well said, @Taskmaster4450
The Steemit Platform is not build for Narrisists or narrisistic behavior. That seems like a real dead end and or a road to nowhere but isolation. It seems to me that the philosophy of the steemit community contribution based on creative merit will naturally weed out the system gamers. It almost feels like the very transactional voting codes are writtin with this philosophy in mind.
The fact that what you put into Steemit, it gives you back, in spades sometimes, and in the long term, Powering up is the way to go.

But the chronically miserable wont feel very at home with steemians,
that want to read see or hear something that is actually occurring for the overall quality of this platform.
The rat repellant is built right into the block chain...in a way. Lol. Transparency is a bitch for social media vampires.
So when do you forsee facebook or youtube etc try to implement an upvote system like steemit..on there fiat based network.. which I dont think will work, or are they going to half to adopt a token
System joined some how to the super media tokens.. which will make us all that much wealther.. ?

I think those first to a platform feel more of a connection with it, and with Steemit that connection is amplified due to the financial rewards (massive ones for the earliest adoptors) they've earned. And those two things in combination are a very powerful thing.

I consider myself a positive, optimistic person, but I'm not wearing rose-tinted glasses. I can clearly see the potential of the platform and the opportunity to grow, and profit from it. But I know it'll take work, and time. So, I'm just thankful to be here now, relatively early (or what may prove to be very early).

The great thing about the platform right now is that those with the Steem Power are willing to spend time searching for, welcoming and encouraging (both with words and rewards) the newest members.

Of course, it's in their interests to do so, but it's easy to "leave that to somebody else". So, those who do take the time to welcome and encourage new users should be applauded.

But long may the positivity continue - it's great to be part of such a community.

Thanks for your valuable and informative post about crypto, treding. It is a new message for all steemians.
We can gather a lot of information by your post.
By dint of we can increase our skill that is beneficial for all steemians.
I will always visit your site & wait for your upcoming post.
Thanks .

I think other social media such as Facebook Twitter, steemit's constitution is a little exception, and here we can show our opinion in a decent way, and by that opinion, we become a means of earning money, so we get a social site like many happy steemit

@taskmaster4450, you said everything.
Brazilians have a problem that they try to argue with everything (the fault of that is the latin blood), however, here in STEEM everybody is so calm and kind.
When you are working with reputation and money, everybody thinks twice before talking something.

I always wondered why there wasn't a lot of negativity. I think that there is a little more to it than what you said.

I think that the crypto community has a bunch of people who are more objective than other people, making it so this platform is not so negative along with what you said. I've only been into it a couple months though, so idk for sure.

My account was created in October, but I only just started to connect with people from steemit in the last couple of weeks.

The people I spoke with are working on building their freedom within this platform, this is a wonderful thing. And doing this through you own taught, ideas and words, brings some sense of accomplishment.

The financial incentive of behaving nicely is clear, but the fact that we can only succeed together is something that drives this behavior as well :)

Steem at $1,000 wow that would be something...
I will be paying myself out (SBD's) for the first time in February, to pay for part of my expenses in Thailand. It would be great if that would become the new normal and I could live off my steemit income :)

I understand what you are saying...I am trying to amass all I can....there will come a time where tokens will be the primary source of income for many of us....STEEM is going to be at the center of that.

Uhh I don't know where you have been. There is a whole bunch of negativity on here. You haven't seen the flag ware going on??!?!

Yes I have...and it stands out on here which tells the entire story....

On other sites, stuff like that is common practice.

Have been listening to your podcast just now! So cool and optimistic. I hadn't heard about the 1KSP 'project', but LOVE it! It's clearly a great goal although for now I would be happy to get to 500 :D That will be a huge celebration!

Your current post is absolutely true. There's more positivity here on Steemit than everywhere else, since 'your success is my success' as well! If someone asks me for help I'm like "HELL yeah, let's get you integrated on Steemit as well! We can't lose you!" - and although patience is not my strongest skill it's quite alright on Steemit - Magical...

I have to admit I never looked at it they way. When something is at stake I guess we are more likely to hold our tongue or just walk away. Even doing things in person makes politer people. On social media nobody knows you and you have nothing to lose.

With your encouragement, taskmaster, I will continue to post high quality content here on Steemit. I am the 504 251 member here to come to Steemit and you said that the first million here in Steemit are the early adopters which are motivating.

People in Steemit are generally friendly. I had never come across angry people on the posts which I commented. That is very assuring. Anyways as always, an encouraging article being posted here. Upvoted!

Wow.

At first, I had a hard time being convinced that negativity meant bad business and that many are here to make money. I didn't think people are civil just because of that, but rather that the community is still small. People in small towns are just nicer than people in big cities. Why? If you flick off your neighbor in a small town, you will probably see him again the next day. Flick off a guy in traffic in Miami, and you probably won't see him ever again. In fact, the guy you flicked off is probably on vacation from somewhere else. So, I think this might be a big reason why people are civil.

But...then you started talking about scarcity. It reminded me of an interview I just wrapped up watching witj Jay-Z and Dean Baquet of the New York Times. Jay-Z talks about a revelation he had in therapy in which he realized that most of the "who you looking at?" fights he saw growing up were just between guys that were hurting and felt threatened that another guy saw them hurting. So, I also agree now with you that the negativity just comes from people that are hurting. It's true of most negative people. Finances are a big reason why people are miserable and that families break up. I have hope that when we enter a world of abundance (which we would have if there wasn't so much income inequality) we will live in a better world.

:)

There are some dramas on steemit as well, though I agree that they are far less common. But to be honest you can steer clear of drama in traditional social media just fine.
So in the end is more about how people are accustomed to behave.
The true benefit of this platform is, like you said, that it changes the attitudes of people and that can have very beneficial effects which can be felt in real life as well.

We commented on this just yesterday. Those who come off as douchebags are simply ignored here, so there's no incentive to do so. While being nice may not make you any money, it doesn't alienate people either, and honestly who really wants to alienate people? If you do, well maybe you deserve to be ignored yourself.

I think the biggest factor, and maybe I haven't seen enough of the bad side, is that the early adopters here are all such optimistic people, and as such are also very giving to others. And when you're in such company you tend to feel more optimistic and generous yourself. So it becomes something of a virtuous cycle.

Anyway, I enjoy it here, so I think I'll stay. It's fed something inside me that has been hungry for a very long time.

It's a shame people lose confidence and end up quitting the platform. If the platform was so easy everyone would be making a lot of money. Keep in mind that Steemit is very unique and provides an opportunity that you can not find elsewhere. You should be content with that; however, greed is still within people and they seek more. However, once they learn that it will take dedication and effort to amass a high amount of money they quit. Those who want to earn money will, newcomers will quickly learn to not be discouraged and keep the bigger picture mind. They need to visualize their vision of success on the platform and pursuit it. Keep up the amazing content, I apologize for not commenting on your other posts. I do not have an excuse for that rather a lack of motivation; however, I can not quit here I have big things to do on the platform ;)

I feel it too and am honored to be a part of this fabulous community early on! This is an excellent post, upvoted & resteemed with love ^_^

Facebook is so negative, pushing fake news down everybody's throat. All the crap that is pushed to the top of my feed.

I had a Facebook group about guns and gun safety and someone reported it and it was shut down.

They're shutting down most of the FB hunting groups here in Texas. Almost 3 a day. If someone reports your group, you almost have to beg to get it reopened.

Now I just check on family then get off.

I'd rather spend my free time on Steemit, enjoying the contests and challenges that keep me engaged and interacting with fellow Steemians.

Task you just keep putting this quailty content out there and I'll keep visiting.

Hey there! I agree. Finding fellow writers (like you) is the best part of steemit. I’ve been having a good time with the challenges and contests too.

love to read it, thanks for sharing..

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Well that's quite optimistic as you said, when I saw that header I was expecting some negativity actually. Bad thing about this community, there are no discussions. Without discussion there won't be any real conversation. Or steemian will get into our veins and even me will become a pollyanna.

And that first 100SP, ain't easy. I bet it gets easier after.

I’m one of those guys who has an account worth $500-1000. I’m Canadian as well, so US dollars are worth more to us.

I got away from posting a while after I joined Steemit. I found the Steemit to be hard to master, and I had a young son to take care of on top of working 45-50 hours a week. I knew I had to find time to get back on Steemit, and so far, I’ve liked it so much I deleted my Facebook app!

There might be something to both those points.

I think that the reason for all the negativity on most social media platforms is that there are no real consequences. This gives people keyboard courage. They can say whatever the hell they want! what are you gonna do about it? But on Steem, that will cost you money. That brings people back to the real world a bit.

As for myself, I've never been one to engage in bad behavior online. I certainly wouldn't do it on Steem . Steem makes me happy. Even when I disagree with people. Earlier today someone offered me some strong criticism on here and whereas on FB I would have gotten mad and signed out, it didn't perturb me at all.

I think it is because I am building something here. Every second I spend here I'm helping to create something I like.

Thanks for the post.

Keep Steeming!

I have seen several other intelligent people predict huge prices in the future per steem. I, of course really hope those predictions are right!

But we must never forget the responsibility we have now as this community to make a steem a welcoming and positive place. I think we are important for the future success of the steem blockchain, so we need to keep making a steemit a great place for interactions.
reesteem done

i totally agree with you as steemit is the most amazing platform .. ever saw .. and we should always keep it clean .. we should promote it but at the right place
