I've always been against flagging based on ideology or opinions unless the ideology happens to be "I'm going to spam or plagiarize for rewards".

Does powering down effect the reward pool? I’ve never been explained how that frikkin pool works! I watch coinmarket cap and rarely, it seems, my wallet mirrors Steem but it typically mirrors Bitcoin.
Although the price of neither Bitcoin or Steem has fluctuated a lot (lately), my wallet gains value as I see larger wallets powering down—why is that? Coincidence or something to do with the reward pool? 👍🏿

Thanks so much for your answer. I actually love your answer and agree with you 100%. When we started the "Hey! Have Ya Met...?" introduction posts and Steem Terminal on Discord we were hoping to connect with the MANY Steem-Discord communities to get as many people connected with the various communites, but helping the new people until they are found-they find the place they can get the mentor help. Hi Dan, I'd just really like to know why steem can't be bought directly with fiat through a master card. I know it's possible, but why hasn't it been done?, don't you think steem will go more mainstream if that is possible?

Ok. Here goes. The Steem blockchain has a three-second block processing time target. What this means is that when/if its user base grows many orders of magnitude, the blocks will have to also grow. Some people complain that it will force witnesses to upgrade their hardware to such an extent that running a witness node let alone an RPC node will be an industrial operation. My comment to that is that so be it. Steem is built to have only 20 witnesses who participate in block production anyway. So I don't get what the problem is. Besides, the price of memory, bandwidth and storage are dropping exponentially anyway. Since Steem does not store binary files, only text, I don't see scalability as an insurmountable obstacle.
My topic suggestion is scalability. Steemit Inc is working on Multi Indexing RocksDB Adapter. The idea is to move away from storing the blockchain in RAM and to store it on disk (RocksDB). It would be interesting to hear estimates on the costs of running a witness node or an RPC node after the transition to RocksDB is complete. How much will it help?
