STEEM price: Steemit Market versus other sources

G'day Steemers,

I noticed the that there is a major discrepancy between the price of STEEM listed in the Market page, versus the price listed on sites such as coincap and coin gecko.

For example, at the time of writing, Market's latest transactions hover around the $3.17 mark, but the price listed on other source's indicates that the coin has been trending above $4.00 for at least several hours?

Why the discrepancy? Does anyone know?

        Really, I find it curious nonetheless. I noticed that crypto prices tend to swing wildly. But these swings and the actual average prices tend to be reflected across the various exchanges. Conversely, what I am noting with Market is that the price is 'tipically' lower. I noticed this now, as well as on two occasions late last week.
