Grumpycat: the super villain of Steemit

in steem •  7 years ago

If Steem were Gotham City, then @grumpycat would be one of the worst super villains that live in it. In case you do not know, it is one of the many accounts with a huge amount of Steem Power (which are called whales) but with an unfortunate affinity for doing evil.

Its activity focuses on flagging posts (marking them negatively) without giving too much explanations about why he does it, causing the owner of the post to lose almost all the money collected so far in that work. This generates a great frustration in the users since the majority tries to make money of legitimate manner, generating good material on which surely it dedicated hours of writing to publish it in the best way.

Steemit is a great platform that introduces a monetization proposal that can only be achieved by exploiting the characteristics of blockchain technology, which also promotes the philosophy of decentralizing power. However, the rules implemented in Steem generate completely the opposite. Proof of this is the Grumpycat account.

In the following video you can see the frustration of a Steemer who had the bad luck of being a victim of Grumpycat. You can see that in his improvised reply ends up describing the situation as "Cyber Bullying" that I consider quite accurate.
Is Steemit Decentralization Backfiring!?

This is @sumatranate, another user who was also a victim of the same villain and explains briefly what happened to him. The best that this post leaves us are the suggestions on how to use the bots of Steem!
My First Downvote! I am a Victim of grumpycat!

In this post, @enginewitty denominates the activity of grumpycat as that of a "Cyber terrorist".
Downvote This grumpycat/madpuppy

In this last example we see @r351574nc3, a user who denounces the misconduct of this character and as a consequence receives a comment from Grumpycat himself mocking the situation. Not only that, but above he himself voted his own comment generating himself a profit of more than 150 USD. They say that crime does not pay, but in Steemit cyber bullying does pay; and very good!
GrumpyCat is a Monster

The impunity of these super villains is so great that it leaves us thinking to the rest of the users if it is worthwhile to continue trying to earn the money honestly, generating quality content or we should dedicate our time to exploit all the faults that this platform has. Clearly Steemit lacks a mechanism to avoid the existence of these super villains, and lacks a method that ensures the quality of the content.

I am not a writer, I am an entrepreneurial engineer and I am building a platform on the EOS blockchain that will try to be an alternative to Steemit's proposal but trying to avoid falling into the same mistakes, aspiring to implement an innovative mechanics for content regulation and monetization that will be completely different.

If you want to know more about my project, I invite you to follow me in Steemit. Here I will be publishing all my research, experience and progress made.

welcome to decentralization!

Decentralization does not necessarily have to be this way. We can create a system that has regulation rules where that power is decentralized and decisions are made democratically.

good post
