Over the past couple months I have been here it has been a pretty steady stream of new users.
I haven't really noticed any massive spikes or any big dips in the number of users signing up, it just seemed to be, well constant.
That all seemed to change over the last couple days as I keep seeing name after name that I have never seen before.
I went over to take a look at the introduceyourself tag to see if my suspicions were correct. Sure enough that tag is exploding right now.
In order to really confirm my suspicions I took a look at the steemit statistics post that @arcange puts out, and sure enough he had a graph for me:
Check out his blog by the way for daily steemit stats!
It looks like there was some sort of backlog over the past couple days that has just been released and the floodgates are opened.
I would imagine these new users are also partly responsible for the recent spike in steem prices a well.

Steemit.com can have a steep learning curve, so make sure you ask around if you have any questions. There are many here that are willing to help, all you have to do is ask!
Oh, and if you really want to enjoy your time here on Steemit, it is much more fun if you have some SP to play with. Purchase a couple steems, you will be glad you did!

Why not? I joined about half a month ago and can't be more satisfied with a social media blockchain. Steemit is a pure revolution, reminds me of Bitcoin explosion couple of years ago, just in a more elegant and subtle way. This community will make great things once it goes mainstream, it has a intelligent users base and some brilliant posts I'm discovering every day. Much better than other nonsense and pretty useless stuff I was forced to read on centralized networks. Steemit forward!

That is great news. Im one of these newbies that signed up about 2 weeks ago. Steemit is a great platform for introducing people to crypto and a chance for them earn some crypto without investing. I myself purchased about 2200 steem and I'm converting my 500 M/hs of dash and and 135M/hs of litecoin mining into steem. It definitely is more fun when you have a little steempower to turbo boost comments and posts.

Yes, plus you earn some curation rewards for upvoting posts relative to how much steem power you have. It really is a neat little ecosystem.

Yeah we've had a lot of new users signing up recently! The devs seem to be getting the signup process situated some and able to process a lot more new accounts per day then was the case just a few weeks ago.

Well, there has been pretty solid efforts going on by a lot of current users and new users to recruit more users to here. I've been recommending it (Steem/Steemit) to loads of friends IRL and online as a way to not only monetise content creation, but also get into cryptocurrencies.

i am one of those new users ... signed up late May. Heard about steem just because I saw huge potential over Poloniex on this coin called STEEM. Researched it and here I am. Been talking about SteemIt to a lot of my friends and honestly ... some think of it as another ponzi / scam thing .. others were just intrigued. It took them almost a week to approve my account, so the spike is possibly due to a backlog of new users finally getting approved for the platform. I am one of those new users and it took almost 6 days to get approved for my account. Happy to be here and looking forward to meeting more the "wise elders" that have been here for a while!
