There is a shift in the way you need to think about business and investments when it comes to cryptocurrencies that you may not consider. It is natural to think that when you buy steem you are buying it from a company. The man if you will :p. And that your rewards are being given to you by a corporation and if you don't make enough it is because the corporation is being cheap or dishonest. We are wired to have this us v.s. them mentality because that is how capitalized works. That if the company is going to do well then the people have to do poorly. But that is not how cryptocurrencies work. It is a new mentality that may take some time to adjust to.
Every person who gets steem is, in a way, an owner of the company. And we all, as a team, do better if the price of the coin goes up. We are all on the same boat. Yes there is still competition, steem has only so many rewards it gives away and people will vie fro them as they always do, but unlike traditional forms of currency, steem has the potential to skyrocket in value. So the company, the people posting and you (if you are a member, if not, get your ass on here :p) all benefit from it being success. You now have a shared goal.
So if you choose to buy currency on the market (and please do your research and only risk money you can afford to lose, it is an investment, and like any investment, there are risks) think about who you are buying the currency from. The company of steemit Inc. does have a lot of coins (which is good as they will care how well the coin does), so you might be buying it from them. But you might also be buying it from a blogger. Or a cook who is posting their meals. Or a parent who is using this money for their family. Or me, and I'm awesome :p.
We have not made a complete shift from the capitalist model but we are becoming more of a we when it comes to finance and less of an us vs them.

Thats exactly how Steem is designed to be. It's weird to think it that way and so it's true that even the latest-gen users will need a rewire in mindset to wrap their heads around it.
I'm very optimistic of Steem and its platform. I'll not only watch it closely but aims to participate meaningfully and be among the early adopters.
Afterall, Alexa data shows that steemit only penetrates about 0.00012% of Internet users.
Those numbers can be easily blown up
