Where is the sense of urgency, passion and pride?

in steem •  6 years ago  (edited)

We are just over 2 years into this project and I realize the price is down, but if we are still here we are still working on it.

I've enjoyed working for Startup's for the culture of Urgency, Passion and Pride.  I helped take 2 different projects one went public and the other was acquired by a public company.  Steem is a great idea, a great business opportunity, but I feel FOMO, I fear we are going to miss our opportunity.

We didn't show up and put in our 8 hours and go home.  Our CEO, Kerry, was always painting a vision of what we were doing, why and what impact it might have.  We brought Medical Coding online, we made the books and former tools obsolete.  We did it when nobody else knew why.  We had to tell them.  Once they got it, they told their co-workers and other offices and our services spread faster than we could support.  As people on the inside, we knew our problems and our imperfections but we KNEW we were doing something new, something important.

Here on Steem, we are building an economy, no matter how imperfectly we are monetizing content, most content providers are making more here than elsewhere, even if it isn't perfectly fair.  We are offering an immutable, free service that pays those who learn how the system works and work it.  We are bringing opportunity to people who wouldn't have it otherwise.  We are in a tech industry and tech doesn't wait for people to figure out they have their hands on a Goldmine.  I've seen lots of business ideas in my life.  I have played a roll in 2 different startup companies that either went public or were acquired by public companies.  I've heard a lot of ideas that have left me feelingless.

So many of you are caught up in the day-to-day BS, you have lost the vision.  So what the price is low, so what rewards aren't perfect and development is slow.  I mean do you not see what we are doing here?  We aren't giving money away, we are building a platform where Alex Jones (no matter how toxic he is) can say what he wants to say and the users can decide whether or not to support it.

People from Africa can build an audience and change the lives of their family and those around them.

We are giving Authors and Bloggers and Singers a chance to hone their skills and earn a bit while doing it.  If some government doesn't like it, using simple tools we can continue to work, earn, grow a new Industry.

We are giving Developers chances to be self employed and build projects in a smaller and more business friendly  environment.  We are allowing access to political views and ideas that are mostly being shut down in other sectors.  We are making friends world wide and giving those people "insurance" against a financial crash within their own economy.

Everyone is sad their wallet is a bit smaller but you are forgetting to take pride in the idea that we could just be changing the monetary systems of the world.  No, we aren't perfect and Greed and Envy still are normal human behaviors, but we are making progress.  We have built a community, we have given opportunities, we are making some very rich and many others have received "More" than they would elsewhere.

It's messy, it's ugly, we are doing it anyway!

Wake up and see the big picture.

What's your purpose here?  What do you hope to achieve? Are you proud?  Why or Why Not?

@whatsup,
I am Steemian! So it's proud to say that and I am using STEEM to backing up my financial crisis of the real life! Non other platform truly doing this! But STEEM does! With SMT launch, we could see more DAPPS than content creators on this blockchain! I am waiting to see that bright future!

Cheers~

To be honest I think a lot of us feel Bamboozled by people that said stuff like "price doesn't matter."

Whales that didn't want the price to go down before they could power down and get out.

If it falls down to $0.07 again does price matter then?

If someone is able to buy 11,000 SP like I have for only $500.... does it matter then?

I'm depressed and disappointed in the platform. I haven't been writing as much because nobody reads my articles and stories except for people that don't even speak English and say stuff like "thank for good content. please contonue and upvote."

It seems like a vast majority of the community is only in it for themselves.... even "big shots" who claim to love the community.

I tested this over the last few months by making some long well though out comments and I received about one penny usually for my half-hour's worth of work. They can't afford to give more than a penny. It takes three cents to make a payout.

Scammers in big suits with tons of SP.

It's frustrating.

My boss at work bought $100,000 worth of Facebook stock when it was $11 a share. He's now a millionaire.

I'd like to think we could do something similar with steemit but in order for that the happen, hive mind is going to have to come out and so are smt's. The next hard Fork, which comes out on the 25th of September, does not include either of these things.

I will keep on posting and I will keep on engaging community and I will keep on writing my fiction stories even though no one's reading them.

I wish I could take a firehose though and wash away all of the scammers and people that are only in it for themselves. I think we'd lose the vast majority of people here though.

Yeah, I am not saying I never have any doubts, but we are okay. Just moving along with the markets. There isn't a lot of interest in crypto right now and it is reflected in the price and activity.

Those who are rich now, went through 2 years of a bear market and they kept buying.

I am afraid we were over promised and under delivered.

I agree! Following you respectfully. We need to keep pushing!

Very very well said. This is so much bigger than our individual earnings, and those that see all the amazing projects that have come out of this platform know that. We just need to continue business as usual through a time like this. We’re still earning a TON.

Short term thinking is killing us. This is the time to make friends with the hard core crew!

That’s exactly what I was thinking!

Your last part made me laugh...it's messy and ugly, but we are here to stay. I think many people are here for the wrong reasons, and if they were here from where it all started they would understand that we have been waiting for these changes for a very long time. We understand that Rome wasn't built in one day but most people don't. We all came for the rewards, but here we all are...still waiting for communities...ha ha ha!

Communities. Ah, yes, I remember that idea. In some ways we have started making our own, through tags, and discord, steem.chat, etc.

Everyone is sad your wallet is a bit smaller

It seems that we have dropped in the development score from the last time I checked...but I do take your overall point

https://www.coingecko.com/en?sort_by=developer_score

Yeah, well... the communication is getting better, but they should light a fire under those devs.

We are playing with fire if we don't. ..

Such a grand adventure. I am excited to see how this all turns out.

When you put it that way, hell yes!

I'm all in on this platform.
Loved your cheering on.
Where's my pom poms?

I seek the Holy Grail...

Inspiring words here! I totally agree and actually look as this decline as an opportunity to get in where I had earlier missed out. I remember when I started here in January, I would say “wow, if only I had gotten involved earlier at $1!”. I started buying around $4 because I saw the potential and have continued to buy despite the decline because the reasons I buy have not changed. In reality, with SMTs around the corner I see more reason to add to positions. As time has passed, the realm of possibilities have expanded for me and I try to add value to the community so we can achieve it’s potential and some have difficulty to see it. I am proud that I can be part of the building blocks to what @taskmaster4450 calls the “age of abundance” that is coming!

Very true - I'm not panicking and have actually upped my Steemit activity - but I wouldn't buy any more cryptos at this point - I'd wait for sustained recovery - I'm holding what I have though

Yes I am powering down this account for one week right now, but that is for part of a plan involving my other Steemit accounts:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@sift666/i-m-celebrating-two-years-on-steemit-by-having-four-accounts

I'm holding and waiting for a CD to mature next month I will probably put more in if the Markets are still low.

It's tricky picking the bottom point - from share trading I aim to sell before the peak and buy once I'm feeling pretty sure we have passed rock bottom.

I think Steem has a resistance level of $1 now, but I'd want to see it staying above that for a month before buying any more

My purpose on steem is to make money doing the thing I love. if I cannot achieve that, I might settle for an audience that appreciate my poems and short stories. And yes, I'm proud to be on this platform because there is still oppprtunity to grow. I envision being one of the leading influencers from Nigeria (I don't like the African tag) in the future. I know there are already established individuals from my country on this platform and I am okay with it. It's not a competition, there is room for everyone willing to do the needful.
like I said yesterday, the low price of steem favours me. I can afford to buy little until it goes up again. Yesterday I bought 5steem. i was going to get another five but the person I am buying from is yet to respond. so, it's all good at this point. well I don't mind if my posts get some attention though, but thats aside, I am fine with the way things are currently. the price can go up when I have gathered some steems, I know I sound greedy. lol

That is awesome and I am happy to hear you bought in! Nicely done!

thank you very much.

@whatsup, these are comforting words, and your definition of Steemit is very important. At a time when people can feel discouraged, it's important to read these message of hope.
Thanks.

Yes! I don't have anything profound to add, just YES. I'm tired of getting caught up in drama and minutiae. The potential and ideas here are huge.

all of crypto is struggling we are an attention economy. When crypto has it's next run we will run with it.

"[M]ost content providers are making more here than elsewhere, even if it isn't perfectly fair." I think that is important to keep in mind. Despite the issues, it is much easier to get off the ground here. I look at YouTube where probably millions of people have been grinding for years without making any money or finding an audiance then I look around here where people can and have (even if it is not the norm) started earning on day one.

Exactly this ^ Go try to make it on Youtube and then come back and complain.

Haha Yeah I would like to read those "I'm back" posts lol.

Even big YouTubers are struggling over there. I just wish more would try to come here. We have a few now but a good mix of notable people would, I think, draw a ton of new users in with them. That is exactly, how I found this place, in fact.

This is a great post. Tbh steem’s retention rate is the thing that we all need to be shaken about. It doesn’t get worse than that. I’m doing a small project for that, and using the Partiko app to get mainstream people happy... Partiko gives activity rewards and I think it’s the crucial thing that Steem needs now.

I will have to check out Partiko.

Hmmmm; you've been in the block for long!!!

I haven't upvoted a post > $34 in a long time but I think this one is deserving.

no matter how imperfectly we are monetizing content, most content providers are making more here than elsewhere, even if it isn't perfectly fair.

proof-of-brain is the goal, proof-of-stake is working perfectly. We'll get there eventually.

We are giving Developers chances to be self employed and build projects in a smaller and more business friendly environment.

I'm a developer and I plan on jumping in. I've always referred to crypto as an untapped gold mine. I think that there is enough wealth to go around for everyone.

Glad you are here and I appreciate the vote! I'm glad you are going to jump into the developer pool.

Maybe it is slow development but it is a great opportunity to share and write what you feel and it is easier. You are not scared or forbidden to say anything and yes I cannot imagine having this opportunity anywhere else.

Yes!

Thanks for the great thoughts and followup. I love this site, and though I have little experience elsewhere, it seems to me to still be a special place to hang around and create. And chat and interact with other very creative folks. I'm with you, stick it out for the long run. So many people I've known have cashed out, and/or left. Which does not give one much of a chance to add to the platform. I realize many people NEED the money, that is fine. But if not, why not stay in the 'game', at least beyond what you put in originally, and keep growing the site. And giving benefit. I never have understood keeping your vote power at 90% plus (though I am not all that clued into all the ins and outs of the site... maybe there IS a reason.). But if it's not your money, why not spread it around to content creators worth their weight.

There is much complaining right now, but Steemit has been a great alternative to...WHAT? Where else can one get a bit of return for writing and creating and being a bit of a nutter on here? It's been absolutely great. I finally have a platform to put out works to 'the public' that otherwise would just languish about like a beached carp-fish in my computer. So very rewarding indeed, in so many ways beyond the monetary. Having someone appreciate what you put time and creativity into, is worth a whole lot more than cash. It has been a great experience for me. And FUN. Plus motivation for further, expanding creativity, and let's face it, the social part of commenting is a small blast. I've met friends from all over the world on Steemit. And most are downright nice.

Thanks for the bit of a pep talk, I think people need to be reminded now and then how special Steemit is, and can still be in the future.

Sorry if I got a bit verbose here, but Steemit has become very important to me, and I would miss it dearly if it went away. Full Steem Ahead, and the heck with the torpedoes. Cheers.

OmG ... only this time I saw the conscience that spoke. I do resteem this post not to ask, not to hope for a reply. this is my appreciation as humans have a conscience too. Hopefully we are here and they will be better there.

Indonesia

We definitely need more positive posts during these times. So thank you!! I’ll be joining and penning one tonight.

UnfinishedParchedChipmunk.gif

Hahaha; you ain't got it until you've "CRYPTOCOINED" it!!!

This is the time when we separate the wheat from the chaff. I read that somewhere in the comments recently. A lot of people will probably leave (have already left). Hopefully, when the dust settles it will be a better quality crowd than before. Thinned out, yeah. But better. It's up to the devs now to deliver on what they have promised.

I agree 100% @whatsup! Nothing big ever happens without some speedbumps along the way :) 8 months in and I'm still in the 'shock and awe' phase; I still can't believe that we can make money doing this, and like you said, all of those in countries where there's need, they are decreasing that need thanks to steemit! It's incredible all the opportunity here and I for one am not here to whine about anything. Sh#t happens and we can choose to be proactive and try to fix it, ignore it, or continue on our merry way making the best of it!

Either way, this is big and I plan to see it through :)

me too, even if the bear hangs around for another year.

Ditto @whatsup 😅 Doesn't seem to even be a choice, does it?

I am in for the longhaul.

Whatsup every day I desperately wait for your post keep posting such post to invest our time in such a good thing. I am new on steemit platform please share some tip for me and new steemains to grow on steemit.

Definitely, the pros of staying here are more that the cons. All the cryptos are suffering, here at least we still can earn more every day if we keep working.

We are doing ok.
The price is up by 15x over the last two years, 6x for me personally.
We've proved the concept.
Im starting to believe that the games stinc has played are related to the code not being ready to scale.
Millions of users crashes the nodes and bloats the blockchain to unreal memory levels.
Now we know the pool is only so big and when bullies dominate the rewards, interest in adoption dies.

Id say we are doing just fine, if i wasnt sooo grumpy.
Steem on!

It would be great to one day change the monetary system in the future @watsup and it is nice that we are at least making progress here. Loved your post ! upped and resteemed!💕👍😀 For me I enjoyed the engagement with some members of the community , but its getting harder to do with more people leaving and no one commenting or curating. 👍😀
The Hard Core Crew Still Marches On! Just slower then usual!

Honestly now I enjoy doing stuffs here, like hunting products on @steemhunt or sharing article in @dlike or sometimes answering questions on @musing. In fact I want to do more of them, but being restricted by availability of my time. There is certainly great progress on the steek blockchain, because more and more dapps are coming which are creating new opportunities. Price of steem is related to the state of entire crypt industry currently, but who knows, if bitcoin will die and other alts then rise ?

We should continue doing what we are doing.

I agree we are very much building an economy. One based of directly rewarding the 'true value' in this world, one's time and energy. The current model shoehorns human beings into dead-end/get-by jobs, purely to funnel their precise time and energy into an monotonous economy based around centrally controlled toilet paper that has "theoretical value".

We should all get rewarded for the contributions you wish to make, not those which you must (in order to get by in this current system). Chances are those contributions would even be greater as the person is actually interested in what they are doing.

Steemit is a great first step in that direction; towards directly rewarding true human value (in their case blogging originally). And there is so much more than can be had in this space, as humans are productive and interested in all sorts of activities. We are seeing more and more of those surface as well for content creators. So yes, stop the FOMO as the revolution is at hand. It may seem like the battle is lost in the day-to-day, but the war is far from over.

It is my intent to use Steem as a development platform for extending this model further. To aid in prosperity for not only me and mine, but for all of the global community willing to participate.

I have started my blockchain hosting gigs for a while now on the blovkchain. I want to horn my skills on the blockchain...
I host discord shows and blockchain & cryptocurrency conference.
This is my purpose...
