Just curious about those of us who stack silver. I'm wondering...
What you like about the coins or bars that you have.
Which do you think is the best to hold for the long term? or does it matter?
Do you think sovereign coins are better than generics? (there's usually that pesky premium)
Or, do you prefer bars?
Perhaps it doesn't matter?
I'll start out by sharing that I have a little of everything, depending on the stage where I was buying them. I probably am heavier on the sovereign coins at this point because they're supposedly 'real' money, altho ask the normal guy on the street and he just looks at the dollar amount on the coin, no real clue. I also have some coins that I like just because they meant something to me, or were just really cool art pieces as well. I have some bars but it seems like I try to find unique pieces that I like, but I have to admit, I search for a deal too LOL... because I don't usually have a lot of disposable income and look for the dips as well.
As far as investment goes, what do you folks prefer? I really like the metals no only for the fundamentals but also the idea that they've been worth so much historically. There are days when I just want to take a piece of ringed notebook paper out, draw some random $ amount on it, maybe a graphic instead of a face, then burn it just to remind myself that this is really what our fiat dollars are. (it's probably not a bad exercise lol)
Really interested in your opinions, well, if you don't think I'm too nosey :-) Oh, and just as a disclaimer, Please don't share how many ounces, pounds, or truck loads you have access to. We really don't need to know that and you need to be safe too.
Thanks everyone - pass it along if you think it might help someone :-)
Been buying more rounds lately. I like sovereign coins since they all have different designs. I also have bars. So for me its a little bit of everything but mostly rounds at this point. Keep stacking my friend.

Coins, already divided up and a lot harder with less incentive to fake.

I liquidated my 10 oz bars to help support myself this year so they came in handy for that. In Feb. 2014 I started buying as heavily as I could and tracked results of a wide variety of types - all 4 metals, bars, rounds, Eagles, Maples, graded coins, etc. I can tell you that far and away the best performing item I purchased was the 1 oz Australian Kookaburra Silver Dollar. Additional tip, I purchased from www.APMEX.com and took advantage of their free shipping on orders over $100. My second favorite is the 1 oz Canadian Silver Maples - I think when the USD crashes people will have a negative vibe and lean more toward Canadian minted silver, etc - just a hunch. Hope this helps or at least provides food for thought. Keep Stackin' / Keep STEEMin' @wilsilver !!

I am like you, I like to buy a little of everything. I have rare Coca Cola bars that are worth much more money due to their rarity. Some collector coins gather a heavier premium such as any of the Perth Series. I also like the older collector bars from some of the old mints like Franklin or Lincoln. They don't make these anymore and I feel with time they will be rare. Of course, some Morgans are also a welcomed addition to my stack. :)

Sounds like a nice collection. I'll have to do some research on the old mints. I bet those would be cool to have. I like the Perth ones as well, there are some really beautiful designs that they put out. When I get bored with the eagles, usually see what's up at Perth lol...

Many of the old mint bars are actually made out of sterling. So it is not fully .999 but .925. Many of them are beautifully made. You can find them perhaps at your local dealer, if they have them. You can find them on Ebay, but they come with a small premium. I also like coins with their certificates of proof of authenticity. They usually tell you how many were made in circulation. The smaller the number, the more I feel they will be worth with time. I have been bored with eagles for a long time. Canadian money is much more interesting. :)

I'll agree with you re: Canadian. I've just gotten the 2nd coin in the 4 coin predator series. They did a beautiful job on the first one, the puma. One of my favorite places to purchase is Provident Metals in TX. Their own coins are fairly unique and they make them from recycled silver. Of course they have others as well, but pretty decent pricing. I like their 2 ounce coins, more 3D type of engraving. POA's a really nice too for resale I think some day.

Interesting, I just picked up 20 owl birds of prey series. I must say they are stunning and would definitely get more. I picked them up for a nice price at JM bullion.

I personally go with coins. My collection includes foreign coins, pre-1964 U.S. 90% silver coins, private mint .999 bullion and Silver Eagles (which are federally backed legal tender). I do have 1 small bar and a stack of Silver Strike casino tokens with .999 silver cores. There's many ways to do it, and most aren't wrong, but the legal U.S. Tender may be easier for trade and offers smaller sizes than 1oz.
