Edit: I've spoken to yurik and I'm removing this flag, liquid rewards (if any) will go to the original creator but it looks like this is out of my hands now anyway..

I took it from github https://github.com/msg768/mysteemit and modified UI and backend. There is no sign of copyright on this Github page. How would I know that I am not able to officially use this code.

According to Github license I am allowed to copy, fork and modify this content. What is all the fuss about?
You can read the official Github license here. If I would have done something illegal than yes, flag me and do what ever you want. But if the author publicly places stuff on Github, does not write any copyright statements. How are we supposed to know that we cannot fork it. Well do not place it on public view on Github if you don't want it forked.

I believe that the law and common sense is on my side. If Jquery team says right now, "We meant to say that our library is not actually free please take down all the websites that use it.", would it make sense? Probably not.

I remember seeing a post on steemit and I found it.....Toward the bottom of the post it may not have been what @msg768 was trying to imply but it read to me that you were giving permission to use your code... Obviously with your recent show of disapproval that is not what you were trying to say but that is how I interpreted your post here...

Unfortunately it doesn't translate well. I started working on tweaking the code and redesigning it myself. However if you recall I do want to chat with you about a possible business deal. I would be willing to give you my updated code so that you could use what you want if you wanted. The main thing I was going to ask you @msg768 if you would be interested in a royalty deal. I think this service would sell @ 0.002 cents. 0.001 for you and 0.001 for me. Or if you ever raised your price I would just raise mine to make sure you always got paid what you wanted. I think I can force your code to pay two people easily enough.

Your code interests me on a whole different level also. This would be what we would need to talk about privately because people here will steal your ideas as well as your code. I'm almost done with the huge tweak of your code that will make both of us a lot of money. I'll shoot you a message on steemit chat.

I don't think @yuriks2000 did anything but break the developers code. It's best to ask for permission and if you can't get that for some reason always give credit for the work of someone else.

The source code has to be public for transparency that I am not doing anything malicious with the active key. I do not recall saying it's there for everyone to copy it... and/or modify it and use it for commercial purposes. I have added a line to my github page which specifically states that I don't want anyone to fork my work.

I think your code is great. I have some suggestions. I was going to just do the work and hand it to you so you could see what finished code would or could look like. But if you don't want any suggestions even though you asked I'll drop it. Best of luck going forward to you. Be sure to put your license on your git for sure.

Greetings @yuriks2000 just a reminder that whatever is in "your post" is by default a claim of ownership unless addressed differently ofcourse having said that I want to thank you for letting me know this tool that otherwise I wouldn't be able to know at least for the moment and also for granting the opportunity to know @ausbitbank and many others here , it is supposed to be about sharing but also caring ... I will be riding my ferrari now to the moon ..if you want some rocks or dust from there let me know... lol (i like to laugh a lot hope all hard feelings are star dust by now)

@ausbitbank sir is really helping to keep steemit out of plaigarized content. I am also flagged by him once but then I learnt my lesson and my now on I don't even try to even reword any content. I have already upvoted him for a witness. He is my mentor on steemit and I actively follow him on steemit :) A big thumbs for you sir. I wish you all the health and all the luck :)

I am very glad that the situation has resolved for both sides @msg768. Yes, by the way, I think that in the future, you should prescribe your copyright, so as not to provoke anyone. According to Sharia law, not only the thief is punished, but also the one who provoked it. And it's hard to call a thiever thing, which lies literally on the ground. This is important if you are so worried about copyright. Good luck!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

No one provoked anyone to steal anything here. You're just making shit up. And why would you even bring up the Sharia law? What makes you think someone like me would care what the Sharia law says? You do know that Islam is a fraud, right? If you don't, please do your due diligence or stay out of it... Also, the source code has to be public for transparency that I am not doing anything malicious with the active key. Tip spamming on its own is worth downvoting imo, and add software plagiarism on top of it...

Hello @pfunk! I see that both sides @msg768 and @yuriks2000 have come to an agreement. I'm very glad that there will be less quarrels on SteemIt. @msg768 removed his flags. It seems to me that you should remove the flags and the well-respected @adm too. Otherwise, @yuriks2000 can not pay the bonus (for the post) to @msg768, as they agreed. You, otherwise, will punish the @msg768. In addition, the @adm put the flag on another article of the @yuriks2000. Even @msg768 was surprised, he did not ask for it. This is abuse by the @asd, or simply inattention. It seems so to me. With respect to the participants SteemIt!

Too late, your code has been used by 'the offender' to become a an autotip spambot, ah well we get lots of Free 0.001 SBD tips, so I suppose that's one consolation prize for the annoyance of wallet spam.
You implementation to tip only engaged upvoters, commenters and resteemers seems much more reasonable IMO. I'm happy the conflict has been settled amicably.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Thanks for that. The main reason I think this should not be free is that it will encourage spam. There is a new feature request though to avoid tip spamming HERE. I think it's a very good idea and I hope they implement it soon to discourage wallet spamming. Having said that, I'm going to add a feature where users will be allowed to tip their engagers rather than followers. In other words, those who actually upvote, comment and/or resteem their posts.

When you don't credit others for their work, it reflects very poorly on you and your view of the community. More thoughts on that here: Why You Should Care About Plagiarism and Fair Use.

Thanks for your support Luke. Really appreciate it :]

Really sorry to hear about that. For some reason it happens some times that people can post from external resources. One person I know cannot log in to steemvoter, steemfollower and to steemconnect for some reason. I will try to look into this issue and fix it if possible.

Thank you for your feedback @carlobelgado. It's a pitty that it does not work for you because I see that you post a lot of messages.

  ·  7 years ago Reveal Comment

You know what can be the reason @carlobelgado. If you open up the console you will probably see an error about low bandwidth. If you don't have a lot of STEEM POWER (now I can see that you only have 5 SP, I think minimal is 60-80SP) than you bandwidth can get very low and it will not allow you to send automated messages. Happened to me recently.
To open the developer console in chrome just right click anywhere on the page and press "Inspect" and then "Console" to see the error. The error should appear after you insert all info and press "Tip/Transfer".

  ·  7 years ago Reveal Comment

hehehe, what you can do is rent SP from minnowbooster. It should work, 1 STEEM gets you 65 STEEM POWER for one week. More info here: https://steemit.com/minnowbooster/@minnowbooster/introducing-minnowbooster-beta

Yes, as I have mentioned everything happens in your browser it is as safe as posting on Steemit. Plus is HTTPS SSL certificate encryption and you don't need to post your master key, just active key.

hi

hey there @ponlinebusiness!

discord is always free

Well yeah, but it's not on steemit blockchain and how do you send messages to all your followers from there to steemit? The usernames do not always match steemit usernames and you have to send messages to each one individually.

Anyway discord is great in it's own way. There is a convenient tool for everything, depends what you want to do and achieve. If discord does the job for you then of course use it. Skype, twitter, facebook, instagram, telegram, whatsapp there is lots of stuff you can use that is free.

right - you are correct - I did not think of that - that it would be nice to send out a msg to all followers... I guess I just have accepted that I can't do that - instead I make friends with the ones that I can one-on-one and then we talk in discord

You author of this code? What are you going to do? How to restore justice?

I am writing a post about it now. Will ask the whales to flag it as I don't have much power myself. But most importantly, will raise awareness so people won't trust their active key with someone who happily steals other people's works and takes credit for it.

Theft it is bad. I will follow the developments. If you really the author of this code, then I support you. I have small steem power too, but I can make upvote and resteem of your article. I for justice.

I have a weird feeling now... Is he saying he did not have to ask for it?

Cuz if you made it @msg768, and he just COPY/paste the app... well, I see @ausbitbank on board with the flag, so obv I have to do it 2...

I am a big supporter of minnows and all, but it has to be the right way...

Not the " I steal your shit bro, fuck you, what will you do about it" type of way...

See now you got a big player on your ass, in @ausbitbank, and if a witness downvotes you @yuriks2000 for minnow support, something aint right...

The fact that the Github license allows forking does not mean all sources there are free to copy and use.

Github's response to this question (2013 already):

What license terms are applicable to a public @github project if none are specified within the project?

P.S. I spoke to @ausbitbank and he removed his flag and edited his comment.

I saw your transfer memo. The downvote will stay on, because you stole his code, are still stealing it, and you didn't even bother to give him credit. Furthermore, you're spamming people with transfer memos to use your service. Neither actions should be rewarded.

You are free to do what you believe in. Can you just hear my side of the story to be completely fair.

I wanted to make an easy to use and comfortable way to send tips and messages to followers free for Stemians to use. I found a functional code on github without a word about copyright or "Please don't use it" or "Don't copy it" phrase. Just like on https://stackoverflow.com, when I search for answers or tutorials that are not copyrighted I used the code. And Github is the best place for authors to leave their code free for others to use and modify.

I did not credit the author, because I sometimes don't credit jQuery, PHP and MySql when I use their code on my other web sites. I think it is a good idea to credit all authors and I actually should do that in the future. And others should too.

Once the author wrote in the comments that he has not given me permission to use the code my first answer was and I quote "msg768, I took it from github https://github.com/msg768/mysteemit and modified UI and backend. There was no sign of copyright on Github page. I have considered it to be opensource and improved it. I will rewrite my own code completely and will not user your code at all. Thanks"

I proposed a solution that now is actually accepted by the author. But still, I saw 25+ comments from the author badmouthing me about stealing the code that was actually open to the public on Github. Plus I saw another post that was badmouthing me on authors blog. Then people starting flagging posts that are not related at all to authors tipper code. So why flag me if I did not do anything illegal and then flagging me and badmouthing me even though I proposed a fair solution to the author's first request. Do you thing it is fair at all?

It is like leaving a candy in the reception hall and sewing everyone who takes them? Don't you think so?

After that I removed the code from the website. Already over 18 hours now the site is not functional.

I believe that everyone has a Kharma and everyone is judged by your intentions. So please do what you think is right but please don't be so quick to judge other people.

I don't want to be too harsh on judging others which is why I removed my flag but I still believe this post doesn't deserve any rewards. And I don't think you're being fully honest here. You saw my repository and you decided to snatch my work and use it for commercial purposes without asking me for permission or giving me credit whatsoever. You've even been sending messages to those who have used my service specifically in their wallet, advertising the stolen version. And in your post, you mention that your next work is going to be an instant registration tool . Let me guess where you're going to get the code for that. My repository again... And you haven't improved anything. You have only changed the UI by linking the front-end to some pre-defined set of open-source css classes.

Great work -> great post!

Great tool, is the code open source?

He's copied my code without my permission. Not cool at all. You can find my tool HERE and it's open source but I did not give anyone permission to copy it yet this guy has copied it.

You've literally copied and pasted my code with a little modification and made it free. NOT COOL. I don't remember giving you permission to copy my code.

Then take it down and rewrite your own code. There was nothing on my github page that gave anyone permission to copy my code. I am writing a post about this and will ask whales to flag it for stealing my work and taking credit for it.

You can write a post, I am not stopping you. But did you read the license of Github before posting your code there? I think not. It clearly states that what is available on public domain is free to be copied of forked.

@msg768 You should seriously read the licence on Github before posting.

By setting your repositories to be viewed publicly, you agree to allow others to view and "fork" your repositories (this means that others may make their own copies of your Content in repositories they control).

If you set your pages and repositories to be viewed publicly, you grant each User of GitHub a nonexclusive, worldwide license to access your Content through the GitHub Service, and to use, display and perform your Content, and to reproduce your Content solely on GitHub as permitted through GitHub's functionality. You may grant further rights if you adopt a license.

Just because something is available to the public so that they would know that I am not stealing their active key, doesn't mean you can go and steal my work and take credit for it.

Under Github's license it is free to use, I did not steal anything and if you don't want it copied at least write about it somewhere. Write the word copyright or anything explaining terms of use.

I like the sound of that what a great idea, what a perfect way to reward your loyal followers.
Thanks for sharing.
