Humility is one virtue we young people should endeavor to learn. I am very specific about young people because I am one myself.
Young people should be humble because they still have a very long way to go in life, and along the way, anything can happen.
Things can be going well now, which may fuel pride, but life has its ups and downs. Anything can change, for better or for worse, at any point in time.
Some young men pride themselves on the wealth of their relatives, forgetting that a time will come when they will be stripped of those privileges and will have to work for their own wealth.
Some young women pride themselves on their beauty and physical attributes, forgetting that a time will come when those attributes won't be as profound as they once were, as age sets in.
Young people must endeavor to be humble because humility helps build relationships that can serve us in the future. Humility will help you in your personal growth as a young person because you will be more open to learning and feedback.
Humility will also help you as a young person by making you more open to working and collaborating with others, which will take you farther in life compared to competing with them. It will also aid you in building trust with others.
There was a time when I was unable to take advice or learn from people because I felt I knew it all. I was too confident in my own knowledge and wisdom, which prevented me from accepting when I was wrong and from learning from others.
The point is, young people need to be humble because, as you journey through life, you will need people. You will need advice, you will need to learn from others, you will need to be honest and accept when you've made a mistake, and you will need to be open to constructive criticism. Sometimes it's not easy, but we as young people just have to try.
