It would be absolutely incredible for someone to build a Steem tool that is optimised for the purchasing of Steemian's art and even the commissioning of art.
We all love to adorn our posts with interesting, eye-catching images and use particular images to act as a visual cue for a post series. There are relatively few sources of high quality free art so why don't we encourage our Steemian artists to display their portfolios and reward them for their work?
We could have an owner tag built into the market for each piece of art and allow it to be traded...the blockchain could be referenced at any time to validate use of the image within the Steem economy.
Commission requests can be made of a specific artist, a price agreed and Steem or SBD held in escrow for once the commission is completed.
General commissions can be listed for any artist to pick up.
Art competitions could be held.
We certainly need to nurture the vibrant artistic community and in the end, a vast body of work will hopefully be born that will enrich and inspire all of us. Perhaps a great body of high quality free art will also develop and grow!?

Yes...bleujay has been encouraging @edje to start up a Steem Art Gallery.....he has such a good eye for art. A brick and mortar gallery has recently joined Steemit @reddragonfly.

hey @benjojo not seen anything apart from the tag #steemgigs and i'm not sure what they are working on, i'm just about to try and learn electron (see my blog) so i'm thinking in the short term some kind of desktop app for aggregating rss feeds or tags that we all agree could work. but i think that's an area to get together on for sure for the community. if i see anything i'll loop you in!

sounds good to me :) I think the kind of tool I'm talking about would need to be a mobile tool with functionality that fits this particular use-case, but then once there are several well used and popular tools, someone needs to build a mobile UI that stitches it all seamlessly together.

to be honest once you have the code base made, building a mobile wrapper app is fairly easy with something like phonegap. so build the web app and mobile view would be easy, the only issue i can think of right now is handling payments/steem part but i'm sure libraries and code exists and so many app developers on here, maybe something similar to steemshot would be able to bolt that in easier. it's like instagram but for steem. it's really new but it works quite well.

I think I understand what you mean. I think communities, which is in development as I understand it, will help with this kind of issue. Eventually there will be a steem tool which unifies and gives access to all the best, most commonly used tools from within a single user interface.
