The Old Dog Declares: This Steemcation is Just What The Dr. Ordered.

in steemcation •  7 years ago

With my new SBD funded debit card in hand we are now deep inside Germany's Black Forest region relaxing and enjoying the fruitage of over a year of blogging.

Why The Black Forest Area?

  • My experience tells me to stay away from beach areas in August
  • The Black Forest is clean, cool and very pleasing to the eye.
  • We wanted an active vacation and this area offers hiking, cyling and swimming.

Our First Stop.....Baiersbronn

This cute little village is perfect for us because using this as a base we'll be able to visit a few other interesting places that lay in this region.

Our hotel room has a full length balcony which features this great view. We couldn't be more pleased!

This was my first Steemcation purchase using my SBD loaded debit card. It was followed by three meals including coffee and dessert! What a feeling!

Here Are a Few More Shots of The Area. The Real Exploring Starts Today

This is another hotel which is a short walk from us. It is set in some exquisite gardens!

That sky bodes well for an exciting day today!

This morning @lellabird60 and I enjoyed a jog through the wonderful paths that wind through this valley and after a nice breakfast we will be heading off to the town of Calw. I'll report back to you soon.

What About You?

  • Have you ever visited the Black Forest?
  • Would you like to?
  • Do you enjoy activity based vacations?

I hope that you enjoyed this introduction to my Steemcation!

Until next time,

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

Wow, quite the place!
I think sometimes we can easily forget that SBD is real money, that we're actually rewarded for out contributions to the world on steemit...what ever they may be.

Very inspiring @kus-knee, hope more people start doing the same!

Thanks for the comment. It's not really real until you use it,

Well, there's one Black Forest that I'm planning to visit VERY OFTEN ...it's called Black Forest CAKE!!!...I'll tell you all about it after the fact, Old Dog...Maybe you might want some too!

You know how to get to a guy!

haven't been to the black forest and yes! would want to go there!
enjoy your Steemacation Old Dog!

What??? Steemit isn't a ponzi scheme? I thought you couldn't use that worthless fake coin!!
I guess Steemit IS way better than FascistBook!
Great to have you back and see your SteemPowered Adventures!
Go dawg Go~

Hey Mighty Quinn! FascistBook! I like it. Having this Steem Powered Steemcation has added a little excitement. I'd better head over and have a look at your latest post!

Hahaha yea sounds exciting indeed!
I am sure a lot of other people are jealous and thinking "I want a SteemPowered vacation!"
I bet you are inspiring people to get re focused on their Steemit game!
Good Job O-Dawg!

A white mannequin in the Black Forest would be a big contrast :-)
Have fun Old Dog!

I do believe that our beloved @steemitri should do some travel blogging!

I've already offered him a job in America as a car pool passenger, or a greeter at a restaurant!

I still have some nice stories to share here "at home" before finding a job elsewere ;-) thanks though for your suggestions and support!

Hey

I used to have a little condo on the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse where we lived for about seven years. You picked a great spot for your vacation. I'll tell you something a buddy and I used to do after work. We would coast our bikes and glide pretty much all the way from the "village" Sand down to Baden-Baden. Then I'd get my wife to pick us up in the car and bring us back to Sand.

I got the idea after a Hawaii vacation on Maui when we coasted down the road of a very large volcano (except the tour guide forced us not to go over 25mph :-(

But from Sand to Baden Baden we definitely went over 25mph!!! It was a blast.

That sounds like so much fun! What took you to Germany?

I got my MBA in international business which included an intensive language course in German (one summer 7 hours a day 5 days a week.) Then I went to work for a German company in the states. They sent me to Germany for a year, six months in two different cities. I made some contacts here, and eventually was offered a job in Germany.

Looking forward to your next Black Forrest post!!!

What a great experience for to have had!

Wow it looks a really beautiful place, and even if you can do a lot of things it seems to be relaxing with beautiful green and peaceful around. Enjoy your staying!!

Thanks a lot buddy. How was your vacation? No pics on Steemit?

Great! We had a good staying in Belluno and then three days near the sea in Jesolo. We slpet in a nice farmhouse there. I'll see I'm keeping pictures and things aside :)

Hope you have a marvelous time on your vacation! And don't forget to unplug the laptop now and then... remember the value of those "technology breaks!"

When I was a child, we'd occasionally take holidays to Schwarzwald... and my parents were also very fond of Baden-Baden, but I was pretty much too young to remember much of it.

Yes.....unplug. Just a little Steeming when back at the hotel room. The area here is soooo beautiful!

I lived there for a couple of years in a tiny village called Wagensteig. I spent a lot of time in Freiburg. It's a beautiful area with friendly people

Wow, that's so intersting. Were you here for work? Did you learn some German?

I worked for a couple of engineering companies there after university. I had to learn German as some people did not speak English. It's a long time ago, but I can still speak it a bit. Some of the local speak the local dialect that can be hard to understand

That is such a fabulous experience. My German is horrible but @lellabird60 is quite fluent and most people seem to understand my English. :)

Great post , looks like your having a nice little vacation ! Very cool that you can use a SD loaded card !! There's not many places that accepts those I don't think here in Canada , at least I have never seen any in British Columbia , that's awesome for you though my friend !! And a Big Congratulations on a year of steeming on Steemit , welcome to the 1year hood my friend , its been a blast !!!! Cheers to many more of these yearly Celebrations to come ! One day I hope we will all meet at a Steemfest in the future , once were all rich ! Hahaha !😂😂😂👍👍👍

Well, the card is accepted everywhere that takes MasterCard. Not the best option for Canada though ad it's loaded in either Euro, Rubles or US dollars.

Wow. That shot of cute village looks like a masterpiece painting by a great artist!!

I never visited black forest dear brother, but I will love to if time will allow.

I don't have vacations for 6 years, but planning one and will like the activity based like yours.

Enjoy your time dear brother!! Best Wishes from Canada!!

Thanks so much. It's been a great time to spend with my family. Today 1/2 hour run with my wife then a swim with her. Then sightseeing and after that a long bike ride and then swimming again! Now I'm tired!!!

Well, don't forget to take some good rest and good night sleep..

This is a wonderful journey from work hard on blogs. I have the same plan, but to a different place. But now my wallet is still small. If it is filled a lot like you, I will try it. It's very inspiring.

Thank you for sharing @kus-knee

Just keep enjoying the platform and having fun and see what happens.

Of course, its doing very well my friend ..

Oh how beautiful! I hope you enjoy your time there and don't do too much Steeming!

I think I've been there before. When I was younger, we went on vacation to Germany quite a bit (it's still a nice and easy country to go to for us). Vacationing in Germany is quite a lot of fun, because it's so beautiful. I just can't hold apart all of the areas from when I was young :-)

I love the Harz area aswell by the way! Went there once a couple of years ago. That's an area I definitely want to visit again. So beautiful!

We are very pleased with the area! The roads through the forest are enchanting and there are no crowds!

Sounds lovely :-)

Glad to hear there are no crowds. And that in the middle of summer vacation!

Che bel posto che deve essere e, soprattutto, deve essere molto fresco...! Sai oggi in Sardegna avevamo 50 gradi e quindi tutto quello che mi ricorda e evoca il fresco è ben venuto! Grazieee e buone vacanze @kus-knee

Yes, we came up here to escape the heat but it's still close to 30 degrees. It's soooooo beautiful here. We love it!

Awww! Every one of your photo here is frameable.
To me it seems like some world of fantasy. Do SBDs work on Earth as well? 😉

Yes earth seems to be warming up to the use of SBD's!

Looking forward to your pictures of hiking inside of the black forest. I’ve never been but it’s supposed to be an amazing thing to view and explore. I’m not really a vacation kind a person let alone an active vacation. If I was going to go to another country I think I would have to be the destination Reykjavik, Iceland. I would love to attend CCPgames Fanfest one day even though I have not played their game in a while. Stay for a few weeks afterword’s and just explore the wonders Iceland has to offer.

Actually Iceland was on our list but we opted for a cheaper destination. I would love to go though! Are you located in Europe?

I live in America and have never left the country. In fact, I have not even visited many states here at all. Something I should probably try and do more often. I am just not much of a traveler. There are however some cool places in the world that would even take someone like me would be interested in visiting. Like Iceland and I’m sure certain parts of Europe as I love castles!

Looks nice in peaceful as always in south Germany. We will go next year into this direction.
Do you like the beer?

We love the beer and the area very much. Thanks!

Gorgeous photos. Thanks for posting! I loved the time I spent in Germany a few years back. Maybe I'll post a few of my photos ine of these days :)

I'm waiting for your photos. Do not forget to upload them soon. Thanks!

So many have mentioned that they lived for a time in Germany. Interesting!

@kus-knee,
I am talking about Photo #1 & #3. Now I believe those are real, I was seen this before in films.. I thought it was a fiction. Thanks for you, I could understand yeah that is a real.
I never had such kind of amazing experience in my life time so far. But, if I could succeed my journey at STEEMIT, I will definitely be there, and will post in my blog "@kus-knee, thanks for you, I went to that dream world for a once"!
Thank you very much for sharing such amazing traveling experiences with us. Really appreciate your effort!!!!

Cheers~

I still don't believe. This isn't real. Did you notice there is no person in any photo whom we can identify? Yes, I do figure out three invisible ghosts standing around the round table and sipping beer. And it proves that this was not our planet. But this gives me hope that if it can be on some other planet then soon there will be a time when Steem debit cards will be accepted on Earth too.

You make me laugh! :)

There are flowers everywhere here. So cool!

Great post. I cant believe of how magnificent the place is. The pictures on your post are exactly similar as paintings that i had ever seen in Hundhorf, a Germany town, located in Australia. Great mate!

Thanks a lot. Yes we are very pleased to be visiting this lovely area,

Enjoy your wonderful vacation then!!!

Beautiful town, and a beautiful view from the balcony :)

I work some years as naildesigner :)

Awesome! I can't wait to be in a position where I can do the same, but I've got at least a year of hard work to get through before I can do a 'steemcation' :)

Very beautiful village! I have never heard of Black Forest! Now I can see the photos of it just because of your post! Thanks you for sharing this beautiful post! Hope to get more photos :) I will visit there in the future once I have enough money for that!

Thanks for coming!

My husband was stationed in Germany. If he could pick us up and move us anywhere, it would be to the Black Forest.

When we vacation, we tend to go tent camping near family and friends. Sometimes in their backyards.

Tenting is awesome. I love it!

Yes! we love it so much we go for months at a time, sometimes.

Have you posted about this magical STEEM filled card and how it is acquired? Did I breeze right past it?

What a wonderful vacation! We live in an area with enough German expats that we have really good German restaurants. @lumlum85 and I actually ate at one today, and it's the closest I'm going to get to visiting the Black Forest any time soon.

I wish that people loved you,
Friends to be proud of you.
I wish that life blossomed young
And the years rolled happily.

Lovely pics of the scenery. I took a couple years worth of German decades ago and always fancied visiting someday.

I would love to visit the black forest, heard so many good things about it :)

This is a great place, my friend @kus-knee! I would like to visit there! I really love traveling to the mountains and the sea. You gave me pleasure! Thank you for sharing your experience!
