Yesterday I made a few updates to steemcharts.io:
View Data By Time of Day
I've added the ability to view data for any author or category broken down by time of day. This allows you to analyze the best times to post for certain categories, by looking at when the most action and highest payouts occur. For instance, the 'kr' tag for Korean posts, has a very clear trend. The trends here also act as a pretty good proxy for any region-specific content (just adjust the hours based on timezone). For the 'kr' tag, we see that the hours between 16:00 and 21:00 UTC are pretty dead in terms of the number of posts. This makes sense, as that corresponds to 1:00 am - 6:00 am in South Korea.
More interestingly, though, is that average upvotes and average payout begin slowly increasing during this time, with a peak at 22:00 UTC (7:00 a.m. South Korea time). It's important to note that this is not the amount of upvotes that occur at that time, but rather the average amount of total upvotes received by posts which were created during that time. The increase in upvotes and payout for posts made between 1:00 and 7:00 a.m. is likely due to a couple factors. First, during the slowest hours in terms of post frequency, posts see more time at the top of the feed where they're easier to find. Second, many of the posts created during this dead period will still be sitting near the top of their followers' feeds when they wake up and log on at 7:00 - 8:00 a.m before work.
Encoding Fix
As pointed out by @luigi-tecnologo, I had an encoding issue on the first push that was causing some special characters like "è" to show up like "". That's now fixed. Thanks for the heads up @luigi-tecnologo.
Table Row Fix
As pointed out by @chasewest, the table rows looked clickable on hover. That's no longer the case. You can, however, click on the post titles and authors in the table at the bottom. @chasewest was also one of the responders who requested the ability to view data by time of day. Thanks for the input!
Small Styling Improvements
The table at the bottom and some of the font weights are a little cleaner now. Just felt like it needed a little more cleaning up. It's still a work in progress.
Improvements Still To Come
- Find a way to export graph for use in content. Screenshots work, but not ideal.
- Get non-english characters (korean, chinese, japanese, etc ...) to show up correctly.
- Bring in more historical data so we can view user and site growth over time.
- More data types to track. Thinking about data that can help optimize post writing, such as performance broken down by post length, number of pictures, etc.
Thanks @steem.engine! This is exactly what I wanted :)
