PASSION FOR PRAYER (PRAYER OF INTERCESSION)

Before we proceed, I would like to give a brief definition of prayer.

What is PRAYER???

Prayer is a spiritual communication between man and God, a two-way relationship in which man should not only talk to God but also listen to Him.
Prayer to God is like a child’s conversation with his father. It is natural for a child to ask his father for the things he needs.
When you receive Christ into your heart, you become a child of God and have the privilege of talking to Him in prayer at any time about anything. The Christian life is a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And best of all, it is a relationship that will last for all eternity.
God is more willing to answer our prayers more than we are willing to pray.

Lets take a look at Isaiah 65:24 "I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs,I will go ahead and answer their prayers"!

From this scripture, we can see that God is ready to hear us any day and any time so why not take advantage of the privilege you have today and start up constant communication with THE FATHER through prayer.
Lets move a little further to passion

PASSION

Lets look at the meaning of passion .
The more common meanings of the word passion is strong emotion or zeal as it relates to this context.
Passion is a very strong force that drives you to do certain thing weather good or bad. But as Christians we channel our passion to the right things.

PASSION is needed in our daily christian life because this is what drives you to do what you do for the kingdom.
Passion is a vital ingredient for a successful Christian life .

PASSION FOR PRAYER is my focus for today.
When it come to prayer, you need to be passionate about it in order for you to be effective in it. Prayer requires zeal and commitment for effective and long term result .Prayer is not just a spiritual communication with God, It is a ministry that God has given to us as Christians.

This is seen in
Luke 18:1 (KJV)

"And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint."
Your prayer is very important, that is why God instructs us to pray. Remember prayer makes it possible for God to do something He wouldn't have done had we not prayed.
As Christians, Prayer should not be done religiously It should be a lifestyle because it goes a long way into the future.

1 John 5:14

14 "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

PRAYER OF INTERCESSION

God has given us a responsibility as Christians to intercede for both Christians and non Christians and we have a duty to fulfill Gods desires.
According to 1 Timothy 2:1 ESV .
"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people."
And also, Ephesians 6:18 ESV
"Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication". To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.

These scriptures and many others in the bible (which is our standard) talks about the prayer of intercession,its importance and benefits.
Imagine a world where Christians refuses to intercede.. OH MY GOD! its unthinkable. This is why we have been brought on the scene to fill the gap of intercession.
For you to be able to intercede for others, you must forget about your needs and desires and focus on using your prayer to meet the need of others and this can only be done through a LOVE filled heart.

INTERCESSION is more than just praying; it is you standing in the gap for either a believer or a non-believer just as JESUS stood in the gap for us in prayer.
Jesus Christ knew the importance of intercession that's why He paid the price for us so that we may also be able to intercede for others in prayer.

WHY MUST WE PRAY AND INTERCEDE?

1. Prayer is our one way ticket to communicating with God. Jude 1:20 - "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost"

2. Prayer is meant to be our life style .Luke 18:1

3. Prayer of intercession touches both people we know and the people we don't even know. 1 Timothy 2:1 ESV .

4. Prayer of intercession causes changes in our world Acts 12:5-12 ESV

5. When we pray and intercede for other, we show the love of Christ that is at work in us because Jesus Christ did the same for us.

The need for Intercessory prayer can not be over emphasized
On this note, I would like to use this opportunity to encourage each and every one of us to make prayer a life style and intercede for people all around the world because the times we are in requires fervent prayers/intercession.
You would be surprise at the effect your prayer can have around the world.
