I timoteo 3: 14-15

"This I am writing to you, although I hope to go soon to see you, so that, if I delay, you will know how to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, column and bulwark of the truth."

I am not given to tell history but I must emphasize that, Paul had asked his disciple and collaborator in the Timothy ministry to stay in the city of Ephesus. Ephesus was the capital of what was called Asia; now it is the western part of Turkey, and it was a very important city, a center of routes, a commercial center, a religious city, a strategic city in which Paul had spent a long time preaching the gospel.

It is this context, where Paul uses the phrase: Column and Bastion, to refer to the Church of Christ, and gives the impression that it is something positive for society ... But I have not come to take your time for expectations, let's look at these two concepts in the dictionary:

COLUMN:

"Architectural element of support, rigid, higher than wide and usually of cylindrical or polygonal section, which serves to support the horizontal structure of a building, an arch or other construction, it can also constitute a decorative element, a signal, etc."

BULWARK:

Pentagonal construction that protrudes in the angle of union between two canvases or parts of the wall. It also denotes protection and defense.

This makes it clear that the church of Christ is positively based on a truth that sustains society as a column and provides defense for all those who inhabit it. In fact, the antichrist can not manifest because at present there are those who stop him.

And now you know what is stopping it, so that in due time it manifests. Because the mystery of iniquity is already at work; only that there is someone who stops him now, until he himself is removed from the middle. (2 Thessalonians 2: 6-7)

BROTHERS AND FRIENDS OF STEEMCHURCH, WHAT IS THE CHURCH?

Many times we talk the wrong way. The church is not a material building. Many say "let's go to church" What do you mean? Or they say "we are building the church; Well, then, are you preaching the gospel, making disciples? "No," they say, "we buy 10,000 bricks to build the church." That is a wrong way to talk.

The Bible never calls a material building "church", but it is popularly called "catholic, or evangelical church," etc. But the church is not made of bricks, but is made of men and women washed by the blood of Jesus Christ.

We go to church, we are the church. We are the house of God. God does not dwell in buildings made by men's hands. We are the temple of the living God. So the church is the people of God, the family of God: men, women and children who have given their lives to Jesus Christ, and now they are disciples of the Lord, they are children of God, they are the Lord's people.

Because if we think we are church only when we meet, on Monday, what are we? End the meeting, we go home and where is the church? It is for the houses. On Monday the church is on the street, by the factories, by the homes, by the vineyards, it will be publishing in steemit and other social networks ... we are church 24 hours a day and every day of the week. "I am writing to you, Timothy, so that you may know how to conduct yourself in the house of God ...".

THE CHURCH AS A COLUMN

A building needs columns. If there are no columns the building falls, and this society is like a big building and needs a column to support it, and here it says that the church is the column and bastion of truth.

Psalm 75: 3 "The earth and its inhabitants were ruined; I hold your columns. "

Society, countries are ruining, they are falling apart. Good manners, ethics and morals, everything is being lost. There is such a rapid crisis: the earth and its inhabitants are being ruined, but God says "I hold your columns".

What is the column? The people of God, the church; and going back to Timothy, Paul says that the church is the pillar and bulwark of the truth. Humanity is deteriorating: chaos, crisis, corruption, robbery, homosexuality, kidnappings, homicides, dissolved homes, so many barbarities. Where are reliable men, who do not get corrupted?

Society deteriorates, but there is hope. It's the church, and God says "I hold your columns." God, in his mercy, visits the nations, and has promised in the last days to pour out his Spirit on all flesh, for the love of the peoples; and to do so, he visits his church, and raises it, and renews it, and restores it, and edifies it, and fills it with his Spirit, affirms the column in society, because God has mercy on the nations.

Today we assume our responsibility as the column that holds the truth in society. This nation is going to surrender at the feet of Jesus Christ, and how does it do it? Through the church, whom he raises, sustains, who renews and strengthens him. The church is the column and bulwark of truth in society.

Do not worry about the circumstantial advance of the darkness, because the light on the darkness shines. This earth is going to be blessed by the Lord.
