FOCAL SCRIPTURE

LUKE 23:34

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. Vs. 34

One of the outstanding qualities of the midwives in Exodus 1:15-21 is meekness.

EXODUS 1:15-21

Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, Vs. 15
When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” Vs. 16
But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. Vs. 17
So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live? Vs. 18
The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” Vs. 19
So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. Vs. 20
And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. Vs. 21

Many people usually misconstrue someone's meekness for weakness or think that when meekness is mentioned it means weakness but that is not so.

I will say to be meek is to be capable of doing a lot of damage but to refuse to use such powers for evil. Those midwives had the power to kill new born babies but they refused to use it.

MATTHEW 5:5 says

Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth. Vs. 5

These explains that if we are meek, we will attract material possessions in ways we cannot explain. That also means that if we use the power at our disposal to do evil and not show mercy, you will be repelling material things in ways that we cannot understand.

No wonder the meekness of the midwives gave them households. In addition, meekness causes things on the earth to cooperate with the one who has it.

Meekness is a show of mercy. The merciful obtains mercy and the ways of the meek is clear.

Every believer is a potential divine midwife and as such should be meek wherever we find ourselves.

Today in our study today i learnt that a meek person does not have the terms vengeance, unforgiving spirit, impatience with offenders in his or her dictionary but is peaceful, patience, long suffering, forgiving

A meek fellow makes excuses for his or her offenders.

Examples of men who were meek in there days.

  • Moses was the meekest of men in his days.
  • Stephen who would have caused his enemies who were stoning him, even in his point of death never caused but said that God should forgive them for they do not know what they are doing which implies that he was telling God not to record the event leading to his death because they do not know what they were doing.

As Christians, we are expected to live out that life of Christ for those around us to emulate, we are expected to be obedient and humble as a christian because that is meekness.

Jesus Christ was meek even till His death on the Cross of Calvary. Being meek does not make one a fool but shows you have power to overcome most temptation that comes as a test from our enemies.

A friend of mine always says this

We cannot control the way people talk to us or we cannot tell or teach someone how to talk to us but we can only control our we respond to them.

So keeping shut over a thing, avoiding people we know are always looking for a way to bring us down or those who always love picking quarrel with us does not show we are weak but portrays meekness.

Being meek to those people is the only way we can bring them or draw them to Christ.
