Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. (Jude 1:5, ESV)
Once again it's a blessing to interact with you through the marvelous Word of God. The food for the soul is the Word of God and those who want their souls to live and grow must depend on it daily. So today, we go into the Word of God as we consider the book called Jude. This wonderful book has only one chapter and hence very concise.
This book was written by Jude to the church for he said "Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: (Jude 1:1, ESV)". If he wrote this to the church then it is applicable to us too. All scriptures are breathed by God and excellent in fulfilling what God has predestined it to do (2 Tim 3:16). And here we come to the fifth verse of this book.
At this juncture, it is palpable that he was writing as a reminder to the church something they already know. Something that dates way back to the time when the people of God, the beloved nation was in slavery and was tormented by the hands of Pharaoh. It's said that Jesus Christ saved them. Did anyone read anything about the account when Jesus was in the picture? No. But here the verse says "that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt".
Before i continue to explain my point in this post, I would like to use some few lines to talk about the deity of Christ. Christ was not created nor brought into existence in any form when he was conceived by Mary. Christ Jesus had been existing before then. He was the One by whose hands and power everything was created. It's said by John that *"All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made"". (John 1:3, ESV). He was a member of the Trinity in creation . Then God said,
"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." (Genesis 1:26, ESV)
He was the Word that commanded all things to come into existence. He is God. And here we are told that Jesus saved the Jews from the hands of Pharaoh.
How great that is. Every part of the Bible is about Jesus Christ. Christ is the center of the scriptures and if you try to take Him out of it, you get a mere literature. Behold this from John
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." (John 8:58, ESV)
With that said, we should also be aware that Jesus has been the Savior throughout the Old Testament. He even forgave their sins because He knew He would come in the flesh to die on the cross for them. His salvation has been placard throughout the Bible. But here He says that "although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe."
What a sad thing to be said by the writer.
These words are very critical to every man that has a share in the grace of God. We must be careful that we don't drift away from the only Way that leads to the only Gate. Although God has come to save all of us, He has come to offer his blood as a sacrifice for sin on the cross, but yet those who will not believe are promised to inherit the eternal hell. That's who God is. He makes people aware of what may happen to them when they forfeit His ways. We must believe and continue to believe. .
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. But one thing that serves as the thread that holds our wretched souls to this Fountain of life is that of faith. Faith that is not of us but from God, the type that is given to those who repent and believe is vital to salvation (Hebrew 12:2). And it's this hope that Jude was drawing their minds to. That if they are saved by faith alone, then they should continue to hold on to Christ by that same faith. The moment they stop believing will be their end. This same Jesus who has come to save sinners will be the same God who will punish sinners who do not believe in hell.
It's a message I've been intimidated not to preach most atimes by fellow brethren. They say that I should only talk about the positive side and leave the negative side untouched. One thing they forget is that I am just a voice. I have been ethrusted with the gospel to proclaim it to all. I just deliver the Master's word to people. I have no authority to edit it. I preach whatever I see in the Word of God. They are all effective in everything God has planned them to do. I don't want to outwit God. I can't.
That's why I preach the whole counsel of God. I don't want to fall into the trap of preaching a truncated gospel that has no power. Jesus is saying that if one does not believe in Him, it doesn't matter the greatness of the love He poured out for them on Calvary, He will not hesitate to condemn them one day. That is why this account have to serve as a caveat to all of us who believe. We must continue in Him for the Salvation of our souls.

If you don't believe someone, you don't follow the person and if you don't believe in something, you don't accept it. Believing is necessary in our walk with Christ.
