Taking Responsibility in Our Choices, When God is Leading the Way

A man's steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way? Proverbs 20:24

I was once told a story in church of a man who was a poor swimmer, who fell into a lake. A passing boat pulled up beside him and offered to take him to shore, he said no God will provide. Two boys in a canoe passed him by and offered him a lift to shore, again he said no, God will provide. Finally, a man swimming past offered to tow him to shore but again he said no, God will provide. The man drowned. When he got to heaven he asked the Lord, why didn’t you save me, why did you not provide? God replied, I sent you a boat, a canoe and a man yet you wouldn’t save yourself.

What is my point in retelling this story? I believe it has many meanings and lessons

 1. It is our job to see God’s presence in every aspect of our lives and choose the path that most closely aligns with his teachings. When you are drowning in this world he is not going to appear like an apparition before you whisking you away to safety but rather he will ensure there is a path to get you safely to the shore. God knows we are fallible, he knows we are weak, he knows us entirely as he made us. So if we miss his first path he will give us another, but we need to not only believe in him but also in ourselves. It is our job to get ourselves to shore, not his. He is simply the light that guides us and the warmth that dries us.

 2. God requires our faith, not blind followers. It is important to look around, to pay attention not only to what is put I front of us but what is in our peripheral. It is not our place to know the path that God has laid out for us so how do you know to simply walk straight ahead? Just because you are expecting your next step to take one form doesn’t mean you become blind to all the other options around you. There was no harm in the man taking the boat, canoe or tow to shore they were just not what he believed was his path.

 3. We are so good at seeing what others are not doing for us that often we forget what we need to do for ourselves. When he got to heaven he couldn’t see that he had destroyed the body God had created for him, that he had failed to follow God’s plan for him. He couldn’t see that he had done anything wrong but he had no problem seeing where God had failed him. How many times have you blamed others around you or God himself for a problem that you could have solved? How about a problem you also caused?

What we see as a misstep may be the path chosen for us by God, what we blame others for so often could have been avoided by our own actions and where we believe we are stuck is often due to our own blinders. We have the choice in life to create our own destiny but if it doesn’t align with the Lord we can fight or we can adjust but if we are apathetic to our path, we will lose our way as God expects us to participate in our own lives.

What do you take from Proverbs 20:24? Would you of chosen another story? Are these the points you took away?

Glad I stumbled on your post. I agree with this,

God requires our faith, not blind followers.
Developing faith in God because we are certain pf what we read in the Bible is far better than just serving God because our friends or relatives do. We need to examine ourselves and find out why we actually serve God.

Well said Jaff8

I consider in any case how we believe we are so near our producer despite everything we require the soul to observe, as you said God sent such huge numbers of aides and still he dismissed

Seems you found SteemChurch recently, welcome home. Try to read about Steemit and it's etiquette. We all have a responsibility here, to declare God's works.

Thank you! Did I break Steemit's etiquette? I am so sorry if I did.

I think regardless of how we feel we are so close to our maker we still need the spirit to discern, as you said God sent so many helpers and still he rejected.

I have heard people saying opportunity comes but ones, but I would say opportunity comes many times but in different forms. God always make opportunities available to us but it comes in differnt forms and ways, just like the story of the drowning man, who looked up to God to come and save him Himself. He forgot the canoe, ship and the boys were God sent help to rescue him. Our responsibility is to have faith in His ability to supply all our needs. It may not be how we want it and that's how we need walk by faith and not by sight. Great message, thanks for sharing

This post is very very true.
We don't have faith and without faith we can not receive the blessings and good things God has for us, we can't receive the blessings of God.
Also, we are not appreciating,we only see the bad things people do for us, but don't see the good things they do.
We have to see God's presence in our lives

When God is leading we need not to complain because "What we see as a misstep may be the path chosen for us by God, what we blame others for so often could have been avoided by our own actions and where we believe we are stuck is often due to our own blinders. We have the choice in life to create our own destiny but if it doesn’t align with the Lord we can fight or we can adjust but if we are apathetic to our path, we will lose our way as God expects us to participate in our own lives. "
God bliss you

I consider regardless how we trust we are so close to our maker notwithstanding all that we require the spirit to see, as you said God sent such tremendous quantities of assistants and still he rejected

The best thing you'll ever experience in life is when God lead your steps.... Because God can not and will never lead us to the wrong part, that's why he is our Heavenly Father.

As Christians, we desire to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. We want to do His will in all aspects of our lives--in the daily choices we make that govern our actions and in the large life decisions we have to make. Scripture does give us clear guidance regarding the moral choices we are to make as God's sons and daughters, such as in the Ten Commandments and Jesus' Sermon on the Mount . The Bible gives us instruction as to how we are to live our lives so as to be salt and light in this world, glorifying God with our lives

Nice write up here.
Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
And faith influences our choices in life because we would always stand on the belief that God will make it possible some how.

Exactly! If God wish it to be he will make it happen!

Self decisions are birthed by emotions and situations, but God-led decisions are based on a profitable future. It might not look good at the point of making them, but it sure doesn't end badly. And when it's yet to yield fruit, it's best we don't complain. God is never wrong

Often God directs our steps by directing what we have a passion for and what we're good at. Hopefully we have a passion for what we're good at when it comes to ministry.

Very true!

God's presence makes the difference, His leadership is what directs our path to a happy ending. Truly following will won't always be easy, but it sure has a greater crown of glory at the end

We should make Responsible Choices while Christ is leading the way..
Because we are so good at seeing what others are not doing for us that often we forget what we need to do for ourselves.

We have the choice in life to create our path towards greatness by abiding in the word of God

we should endeavor to take responsibility for every of our decisions because the decisions we take shapes our lives.
What we see as a misstep may be the path chosen for us by God, what we blame others for so often could have been avoided by our own actions, we should make the right choices at every point just as Jesus would have done and so we should

God is is so power that he is always there for everybody who have trust in him no matter where you are located.
everything we do or hear should be reflected by Gods word, our life should be of God.
The purpose of Christ coming was fulfilled and was noticed by people who took all they have and all their time to work with the Lord .
Paul through his ministry was able to accomplish various task and he made himself a good example if a right fellow

Thanks to the atonement that the savior made in this world, each one of us will be able to have a hope of each test that we pass along the way because He not only points it out but He walks with us. God guides our walk and our walk, whenever we ask the Lord and put all our responsibilities in his hands He will always have an answer.

It is such a fine line sometimes to participate in our own choices while travelling the path he puts before us.

The Bible said the path of GOD is not the path of man. A man may desire a path but can failed but if we let the Lord desire one for us he choose a good on that is why I enjoyed reading this part of your post "What we see as a misstep may be the path chosen for us by God, what we blame others for so often could have been avoided by our own actions and where we believe we are stuck is often due to our own blinders. We have the choice in life to create our own destiny but if it doesn’t align with the Lord we can fight or we can adjust but if we are apathetic to our path, we will lose our way as God expects us to participate in our own lives"

Thank you

This is a huge fact

God requires our faith, not blind followers.

He made us in his image not in the image of sheep! 😜

Simply God knows us, wants to bless us. God has a life project for those who trust Him.

If we are humble and trust in God, he will give us his spirit as a sure guide in our walk. We always have to be aligned with our God and allow ourselves to be guided by his holy spirit.

Yes!

Without faith, it is impossible to please God, He directs your path and gives you confidence to face your fears. If you don't trust totally in His leadership, it becomes a problem for you

Hmmmmmn...................well said. We all need to learn from this. God bless you for sharing this with us.

The Bible said the way of GOD isn't the way of man. A man may want a way yet can flopped yet in the event that we let the Lord want one for us he pick a decent on that is the reason I delighted in perusing this piece of your post "What we see as a stumble might be the way decided for us by God, what we point the finger at others for so frequently could have been dodged by our own behavior and where we trust we are adhered is regularly because of our own blinders. We have the decision in life to make our own predetermination however in the event that it doesn't line up with the Lord we can battle or we can modify yet in the event that we are unconcerned to our way, we will lose our way as God anticipates that us will take part in our own lives"

I consider in any case how we believe we are so near our creator regardless we require the soul to perceive, as you said God sent such a significant number of assistants and still he dismissed.

I consider in any case how we believe we are so near our producer despite everything we require the soul to observe, as you said God sent such huge numbers of aides and still he dismissed

This post is valid.

We don't have confidence and without confidence we can not get the gifts and great things God has for us, we can't get the endowments of God.

Likewise, we are not appreciating,we just observe the awful things individuals improve the situation us, yet don't see the great things they do.

We need to see God's essence in our lives
