The Leaders We Need

Moses was a good example of the leader the home, church and nation cry for today. He was concerned about the people of Israel. He interceded for them on several occasions. He was willing to sacrifice his life and eternity for their sake. He was a selfless leader. Even when the Israelite condemned him and spoke ill words against him, he forgave them and sought God's forgiveness for them.
Esther was an intercessor, a selfless, humble and sacrificial leader when she was made a queen. Deborah was a defender and a warrior for the Israelite at her time.

The qualities God and His people require of a leader who will care for His people are highlighted in Titus 1: 7-9

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

A leader should be;

● Holy: A vessel that God will use to lead His people, needs to be holy in body and in spirit.

Ephesians 1:4-5 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.

A leader who is not holy cannot receive vision, revelation, divine inspiration or divine instructions from the Lord

1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

● Humble: A leader is as a servant; he should be ready to serve all in humility. He should not impose his opinion on those he leads.

Matthew 20:26-28 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

● Honest and Upright: A leader is a public figure. So he should behave in a moral and honest manner. He should be decent and always maintain his integrity. He should not be an adulterer or a fornicator. He should not be a drunkard, liar or lover of money. His lifestyle should be that which will promote and proclaim Christ.

Psalms 7:10 My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.

● Hospitable: A leader who is hostile and unapproachable cannot lead as God intends. A leader needs to be accommodating, have a listening ear, a broad shoulder for people to lean on, and wide arms to encourage and accept everyone's weakness and strength.

James 2:15-16 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

● Happy with Good Things: A leader who is envious of others when they are succeeding or not interested in the success of others, he is not qualified to be a leader. A leader should encourage and support those who are succeeding. He should love good things.

Romans 12:15-18 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

● Holding back and Disciplined: A leader should be able to control his thoughts, utterances, behaviour, lifestyle, eating habits, desires and reactions to issues. A leader needs to be a disciple of Christ to be able to discipline himself and others. Be discipline in prayer. Never stop praying, remember prayer is the Master's key.

1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

● Hardworking / Devoted to duty: A leader should believe strongly in his duties to the people, His faith; and should obey the rules and regulations of constituted authority and the instructions in the Bible. A leader should encourage hard work and commitment to work.

2 Timothy 1:13-14 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Let others see Jesus in your leadership. Be an example of the LEADER WE NEED in the world.
