The Greatness of God

What comes to mind when you think of God? Very often, most people view God in the manner that best fits their particular need or circumstances. For instance, someone struggling with guilt might choose to focus on the Lord’s forgiveness or His holiness. Likewise, a person who thirsts for justice might also choose to dwell on the righteousness of God.

The truth is that the character of God encompasses far more than we could ever understand or explain. However, it’s vital to take a look at the Scripture in order to gain an accurate picture of the God we worship.

This article will be focused on one attribute: the greatness of God. The passage from the book of Isaiah chapter 40 makes it known that God is greater than creation (Isaiah 40:12), for it was by the hands of God that everything came into being. God is way higher than any nation or idol created by the finest craftsman (Isaiah 40:17-20). In fact, God is above the world and all of mankind (Isaiah 40:22-23), surpassing even the galaxies and the heavens.

The thoughts and ways of our Father are far enormous than our own (Isaiah. 55:9)—and very lofty when compared with what we can comprehend. The book of Psalm chapter 93 verses 1 states, “The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength.”

Beloved, consider how awesome the God we serve is. He truly is worthy of our praises and worship. Even as we grasp a fraction of how great He is, our responses should be one of a humble worship. After all, who are we that a God like this would desire to be friends and family with us— a desire so strong that He sent His only Son to die for our sins?
