We must remember that what we have is a gift. The first of the Beatitudes is that of poverty, and only if we live in accordance with this Bliss will we be able to enter the God's Kingdom. This Bliss has two aspects. First, it is perfectly clear that we do not have anything that we can keep, whether we want it or not; is the discovery of that I am nobody and that I have nothing, total, irremediable, desperate poverty. This is the second aspect of Bliss. We are rich, and all we have is a gift and a sign of the love of God and the love of men, is a continuous gift of love divine; and while we possess nothing, divine love manifests itself continuously and totally. But everything we take in our hands to possess it comes out of the realm of love. It certainly becomes ours, but love is lost. And only those who give it everything is aware of the true, total, final, irremediable spiritual poverty, and that they possess the love of God expressed in all their gifts. One of our theologians has said: "All the food of this world is edible divine love."
