Isa 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

Same verse but quoted in the New Testament by Peter

1Pe 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Peter says, “He that believeth on Him” in reference to the stone, thus speaking of Jesus.

I always love when a verse from the Old Testament is brought to the New. Jesus quoted the Old Testament frequently and the meaning of the verse is given clarity when brought to the New Testament or explained within the New Covenant. This New Covenant antiquated the sacrifices of bulls, goats, lambs and doves. It is only through the New Testament writings that the Old Testament can be clearly understood. It is only through Jesus that either can be accurately studied and understood.

Jesus the Cornerstone

Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

The Cornerstone is the reference point from which you build the rest of the house.

When building a house there is a critical need to build everything referenced to the same point. The Cornerstone! The more accurately level, and being an unchanging and immovable reference for every additional component to the house to be built upon. If this reference is faulty, so will be the rest of the structure. Jesus is our perfect, unchanging, unmoving Cornerstone.

Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
