God the Husbandman (Bible Study on the many Names and Titles of the same God)

Joh 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

(LITV) I am the True Vine, and My Father is the Vinedresser.

We can tell from the context of this verse that Jesus is speaking of God The Heavenly Father and that the Father is a gardener or tender of the vine or vineyard. Jesus is the True Vine and we are branches of the same Vine if we are in Christ. The Father prunes back the fruitful branches and completely cuts off the dead or unfruitful branches.

Check out the purposes of God for tending the Vine

Joh 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

My thoughts

I have many fruit bearing trees and I cut the branches back so the tree will be strong and give tree time to grow a good root system below the ground. My purpose is to have a healthy tree that will bear much fruit. It is the same goal of the Heavenly Farmer. He wants us to bear fruit, much fruit, fruit that will remain or last. Sometimes the pruning process is painful or not what we really want. If we look at the context again, God’s preferred way to prune us is through His Word.
