If we read the original meaning of the word “Guide”, we can see it is denoted leading like you would with horse or one that goes in front of us. When I walk with my 5 year old son, I always hold his hand and lead him to the place I want him. If we are in town, I am always thinking of his safety and well being. When we walk near the road, I walk the area closest to the cars and I hold his hand in a way that he could not pull loose.

Jesus went ahead of us! He put Himself in harms way for us. He went ahead of us to prepare the way. He demonstrated how we are to live. He led, but it is for us to choose to follow. Again, as we see in so many of the previous posts on the Names of God, He is described as “My God”, My Shield” and in our text, “God our God”. Personal, Living, Close God, Who will guide us until death. Guide us while we are still living.
