Testimony-Evangelist Series part 5

Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

When I first started to do street type evangelism, I used to ask people if they were born again or saved. But what I found out is many people think they are, but for the wrong reason.
If you ask them how they got saved or born again (John 3:3), most will reply, “I pray, I read my Bible, I go to church or I am a good person.” While all of these are good things, absolutely none of them will provide salvation.
More than 50% of people asked, think they are headed to heaven. Sadly the real number is much lower than this. Our purpose to spread the Gospel is to ensure people make it to heaven and to bring heaven into their lives, here, while they live out their lives on earth,

Mat 6:10 “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

Testimony

I have found that if you ask a person how they met Jesus, to be a better question when probing for the condition of a person’s soul. If a person really met Jesus, they love Him. They have had a interaction with Him that has produced life and change in their lives. A person who really met Jesus will be able to tell you how and the circumstances surrounding their conversion.

Secondly. If you want to lead other people to Jesus, your own testimony is one of your greatest assets. Your testimony is your real life experience with God. Nobody really can argue with a true experience. I am saying this to encourage you to have set in your mind and even practice telling your testimony to other people, it may help to write it down.

1Pe 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

I have heard many people give their testimony and spend so much time telling of their old life and only giving Jesus a short sentence. 8 minutes of raising hell, and end up with, “then I met Jesus.”
I prefer in a person's testimony to spend more time talking about Jesus, than speaking about the old life. You should be able to tell your testimony in 5 minutes or less.

Most of the time our testimony we share is about our conversion, but now and then the Holy Spirit will prompt us to tell about a time God healed our bodies or met a need. You don’t have to share super embarrassing moments. Our goal is to help people know Jesus. Our goal is to introduce the to the only One that can save their soul. Jesus Christ.

1Ti 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

My testimony

From the time I was 13 years old, until I was 22 I made so many wrong decisions, that at age 22 I was hooked on drugs and alcohol and I was very angry and suicidal. Even though I had great parents, I was without hope or purpose. (Old)

One day in behind my Father’s house, I was so angry and was yelling at the sky. I told God that if He made me, He could remake me, and if He loved me, He would not leave me the same.

Jesus made Himself real to me! I saw Jesus! Maybe not like a physical body, but this was so real and tangible that I saw Him and He touched me. It was like fire went through my entire body. I cried, I laughed and I gave my life to Jesus. From this day forward, no drugs, no alcohol, and I wanted to live. One touch from Jesus set me free from all of the things most dangerous to me. No counciling, no step down program.
35 years I have been following Jesus and I found a friend, a healer and someone I could count on every day of my life. He has never let me down!

Now many say, “well, I don’t have a testimony like that!” Many have grown up in a Christian home and believed on Jesus at an early age and have been walking with Him in a love relationship ever since. To me the is the best testimony of all. That shows it is possible! As a Daddy, that is the testimony I want for my son.
Your testimony will be used of God to build faith in others!

This is a series on Evangelism.
My hope is to encourage others to share their faith with the lost. One thing you will find out, the first time is the most difficult. It is never as bad as you fear it to be!
