THE SALT OF THE EARTH

13 You are the salt of the earth; But if the salt vanishes, with what will it be salted? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14 You are the light of the world; a city set on a hill can not be hidden. 15 Neither does a light come on and it is put under a bushel, but on the candlestick, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5: 13-16

Influence what message are you leaving to the world? Jesus is talking about influence, about how you and I affect the world. But it's easy? Do not! In John 17 and 1 John we are told that we must separate ourselves from the world that we do not belong to the world. So how are we supposed to influence this world if we have to stay
apart from him? The Lord's solution: To be salt and to be light.

I would like to share 4 elements within this passage that show us the implications of being salt and light.

THE PRESUPPOSITION

This passage presupposes two things, does not say them but presupposes them. These two things are: The world is decaying and the world is in darkness. It is not improving! 2 Tim. 3: 1-5 We have learned a lot. We have science and technology, medical knowledge, psychology, sociology, educational techniques. But ... all this has had no effect. We are going from bad to worse. That is the biblical point of view. Genesis 6: 5-6, which tells us about the times of Noah; Genesis 19 Sodom and Gomorrah Man is infected with the germ of sin. And there is no antidote apart from God.

THE PLAN

           God has a plan.

Do you know what is the most tragic? Instead of the church influencing the world is the world that influences the church.
Who has the responsibility? Your! But you are the responsible, the managers, the only ones, there is no other. But if we are going to be an influence, we can not let ourselves be corrupted. We can not get carried away by the morality or immorality of this world, by materialism, by selfishness, by easy solutions, we should not listen to the philosophy of this world.

But this passage not only speaks in an individual but also collective, is referring to the body. There is no use for a single grain of salt, or just a spotlight in the city. Salt is useless with a single grain, light is useless with only one focus in the city. Eph 5: 8, 9

Salt What does it mean?

Salt was very valuable for the society of that time, many received their pay for work with salt, hence the word salary.

Five things about salt:

• Indicates purity
• Add flavor
• Itches, it burns in the wounds
• Produces thirst
• Serves to preserve meat

THERE IS A PROBLEM

The danger of failing. It is a tremendous responsibility. In today's times, salt always has its flavor because it is refined. But in the times of Jesus it was not like that. The Dead Sea was a great deposit of salt, but it also contained other chemical compounds that made it lose its flavor and when this happened that salt was thrown on the roads, that's why the Lord says that it only serves to be trampled (trampled) by the mens.

When sin enters our lives we lose our influence and our testimony is trampled. Impurity can not fight impurity. You can not delay corruption because you are in corruption.

A PURPOSE

The main purpose is to fulfill the will of God. We must glorify our Father who is in heaven. If we do not, we are more concerned with our things, our priorities and our reputation.
