The Power of Self-discipline is the Key to Success and Leadership

Hello friends of Steemit today I want to talk to you about the self-discipline that is the main reason why many are successful on a personal and spiritual level. Although it is a little difficult to acquire because no one is born with that virtue, but it can be obtained over time.

Self-discipline is the ability of a person to comply with certain rules or norms imposed on him/herself, with precept and constancy, using the only force that is required, which is the "will". The willingness to self-discipline requires transformation of the person into habits that are established daily until it becomes normal.

Perhaps with this concept we understand that self-discipline is imposing rules and complying with them. However, it goes much further because if we want to be successful and self-fulfilling we must be committed to ourselves. Self-discipline is so essential in the life of the human being that it is born with the spiritual part, because it is immersed in the Bible, where it is evident that the great leaders who existed at that time and time to do so needed to acquire the ability to self-discipline. In the Bible there are stories that show us when people have self-discipline and when they don't. We will cite two stories in particular:

Samson:

He was a man who at first obeyed and was consecrated to God, who enjoyed great gifts such as his superhuman strength, was a great leader against the Philistines, but then he associated with the wrong people, fell in love and was seduced by Delilah who managed to discover the secret of his strength. So God turned away from him and ended up losing his strength and his eyes.

"The wicked will be prey to his own iniquities, and will become entangled in the bonds of his sin. In the end, he will die unhappily, because he rejected the admonition; and he will be deceived by the excess of his folly". Prov. 5:22-23

Everyone who does wrong is caught in his own sin and anyone who has lost discipline is caught in the trap of deception. Samson's sin reached him, he was ungrateful to the Lord, he rejected his principles and convictions that distinguished him as his servant, he lost his spiritual vigor and rejected the divine call, all this weakness led him to death.

Job

Instead, Job was a man of principle who paid tribute to God every day, loved his family, his children, his lands and his animals. However, Satan to prove to God that Job could curse and deny him, took away his animals, his lands, his children, and gave him a great sickness on his skin, and yet Job resisted because he loved God above all else in spite of his tribulations. Job said:

"Naked I came out of my mother's womb
and naked I'll be out of this world.
The LORD gave and the LORD took away.
Praise be to the name of the LORD".

Job never lost his perspective, he was a humble, principled man with an integrated self-discipline. Here we can appreciate that self-discipline is not just about following rules and laws, but about being able to lead yourself where your principles and convictions are not easily lost to some tribulation.

When you have self-control, you have the right to lead others, because they see us leading our own life, a life they want to follow and emulate. The best leader serves as a role model for others. The battle of self-discipline begins in the mind, so keep the following in mind:

1.- Accepting your identity: Focusing first on our position in Christ begins there.

2.- Renew your thoughts: We must change our way of thinking, educate ourselves and put new thoughts in our minds that will allow us to create new inner rules to follow and focus primarily on the things above, because that is where everything is born. That is, we must keep our minds shut by staying focused and sober on what we desire in life and keeping God in mind on our path.

3.- Recognize that your past life is dead: When you want to change, you have to accept that your past life is over because transformation doesn't happen if we keep some ways to go back to old molds. We must guard our hearts and prevent these old patterns from returning to our lives. As the Bible says in 1 Peter 1:14:

"As obedient children, do not conform to the desires you once had when you were in ignorance."

That is, after we have had the knowledge and acquired self-discipline, we should not conform to past desires because that is already dead, our desires should be greater.

4.- Get rid of past habits: We must get rid of the past, forget about what has got us stuck like when we get rid of old shoes. It's starting from the present, from today.

5.- Replace old habits with new ones: The only way to build self-discipline is to create new habits that will allow you to reach your goal and eliminate the old ones that have kept you on the road to success. If we do not acquire new habits we will never change our lives, we must act every day according to our goals.

Proverbs 13.4:

"The soul of the sluggard longs for nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall prosper."

In Hebrews 12:5-11 the Bible tells us of God's discipline towards us His children, and he who well accepts God's discipline and corresponds with self-discipline (Heb 12:12-13) will be able to produce a life worth following.

How does a leader become disciplined?

A leader in order to discipline himself must lead himself, develop convictions and principles by which he is able to live and die. Values that guide your life.

When do these convictions come?

According to John Maxwell, those convictions come when:

1.- We have studied and learned what the word of God says about a subject.
2.- We decided to apply and obey the word of God in our daily lives.
3.- When we have exposed ourselves to a need.
4.- We meditate on specific truths for a period of six months to a year.
5.- We have decided for what is worth living and dying for.
6.- We associate with people who have convictions in the same areas.
7.- We resolve a problem before we are forced to do so.

Self-discipline is so essential to a person's success that leadership is built upon it. Why do you think an athlete is successful? Simply because of their discipline, which they do with passion, they run and work to get a trophy, they always focus on a result, on the reward they can get for having abstained, prepared and had self-control of their actions and attitudes.

The goal of peace and personal fulfillment has to do with a person's willingness and passion to change his or her life and fight for his or her big dreams, so it is essential to go down the path of self-discipline that will lead to the success you desire in your life.

¡If to this day you haven't achieved what you want, you must self-discipline yourself.!
