Are we still under the law? Do we still live by his dictates? The narrative about the law is a subject that has been emotionally interpreted by so many people instead of getting the right understanding through the holy scriptures especially what Jesus has to say concerning it and what His spirit communicates to us In the epistles.
One day Jesus made known this truth:
Matthew 5:17 KJVS
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Jesus has been saying things that are not coherent with the law since the beginning of this chapter, he was literally correcting the law, he would say "the law says this" but I say this.. When it got to vs7, Jesus addressed the curious audience that he is not a man of disorderliness, a man that break ranks, so he won't just take away the law anyhow, but instead he has come to fulfill it, which means to finish it off in the right manner. He is the fulfillment, he has come to take the law away by FULFILLING ALL ITS DEMANDS. Just like a mission, after its fulfillment, what happens? It ends! This firstly gives us a picture that Jesus will take away the law by fulfilling the demands we couldn't fulfill.
In the next verse, Jesus clarify his first statement:
Matthew 5:18 KJVS
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
That Everything in this kingdom is according to order, one won't just take away the law anyhow, UNTIL it has been fulfilled. So, Jesus didn't come abruptly to destroy the law, he instead came as a savior that fulfills the demands of the law so as to take it and its requirements away once and for all. He said "until"! And by his death he fulfilled it all, that's the until!!
The epistles has this to say too :
Romans 10:4 NLT
For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.
Galatians 3:24-25 NLT
Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. [
25] And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.
Glory!! So we are not under the pressure to fulfill the demands of the law and fulfil its requirements to be holy or be saved, Jesus has fulfilled it all, took it away and has established the way of the spirit.
