Hello to all steemians and welcome to today's topic I have tagged "Developing The Leader In You". Wether we like it or not, leadership is a topic we cannot all but talk about daily. It is a responsibility we cannot shy away from now and forever. Leadership is a core responsibility of anyone who walks on the face of this Earth. You start by leading yourself(by making life changing decisions), you lead a small unit called family, you further lead an establishment , you lead a city, you lead a country......keep naming it... One thing you will discover about leadership is that one way or the other in life , we find ourselves in situations where we have to make decisions and that's leadership.

How you act as a leader mostly depends on how you see leadership and your style of Leadership. However to me, a leader is someone who is able to think about the method and techniques of going about things , does it by example and show others the way to do it. A leader is someone who is less concerned about himself but does or makes decisions for the general good of others.

A leader is someone who strives to better himself, his family and his entire community at large by engaging in making life changing decisions. They are people who set out to make a meaningful difference in whatever they do. They have a goal and their only plight is to see that they achieve that goal. They set targets and ensure that they accomplish it.

Being a leader is not all about calling the shots everyone and then. It's also about admitting when you make a mistake. Some leader will argue with you up to the point of death. Being a leader is about humility and not about pride all the time. It's about knowing that you must admit your wrongs when you have made an error. Its about building others and make their lives meaningful. It's about making impact in other people's life and leaving a foot print that can never be erased.

Leadership is commitment to a cause. It is not always about the position but being ready to take action anytime there is an abnormally. Its about influencing others positively. Attitude is a very important metric when it comes to leadership. People will definitely listen to want you say but trust me, they feel the single step of the way you behave or your attitude as the case maybe here.

Well, if I keep talking about leadership, we will never leave here. I have been a leader all through my primary,secondary and tertiary institution days and trust me, I know how it is sometimes, but we are all leaders and the best we can do is to keep developing that quality in us. Lets quickly see some points worth considering on how to developing the leader in you.

Firstly, the most important thing to me when it comes to leadership is "Thinking". I mean critical thinking. A leader must have the initiative to think outside the box when it becomes necessary. He/she must be able to sense a problem before it arises. He/she must wait tot get to the bridge before finding ways to cross it. A leader who can think crosses many hurdles and Bridges and oceans before the problems arises. Once you can think, you have developed an exceptional ability to of a leader .

Secondly, another important metric when trying to develop your leadership qualities is learning to listen to others. Yes , you are the boss and nobody is dragging that with you of course. So why not be patient to listen to what others are saying. Why do you need to think that what everyone else is saying doesn't matter to you . Learn to listen. Whether what the person wants to say is reasonable or not, you can only tell after you have listened. This will make people trust you.

Thirdly, you must learn to encourage and motivate others to grow in every aspect of their lives. Quincy Adams once said :

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

This means that your decisions , your actions, your dealings should be direction that everyone wants to follow without hesitation because it is the right thing to do. Once people believe in you that much , then you are a leader that can push people to bring out the best in them.

Fourthly, for the fact that you want to achieve all your goals and objectives, then you need to be disciplined as a leader as well as do away with any form of procastination. Yea, you may have plans but if you are still procastinating and not disciplined, trust me , you will have some couple of sets backs and regrets which will stain your already built leadership reputation. Learn to execute your plans.

Lastly, if you want to be a leader then you must subject yourself to learning constantly. Every leader they say is a reader. You must be ready to develop yourself. You cannot say that you are a leader and you have never read any book on leadership. It's an error. You must seek to develop yourself and learn everyday.
