BE WATCHFUL

There are different biblical concepts of sleep. We have the natural sleep, the one that allows the body to rest from fatigue and weariness of the day’s work. Spiritual sleep is another type of sleep which put one in a pathetic condition.

Apostle Paul admonished the church in 1 Thessalonians 5: 5-7 saying “Let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober for they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunketh are drunken in the night and the day of the lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

This simply means that everyone who wants to be with the Lord at the end must remain awake and watchful. As a believer in Christ, you do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places.

Knowing the caliber of forces and systems you are up against, you cannot afford to doze off spiritually. You must be on the red alert, taking on the whole armour of God so you can resist the craftiness of the devil.

Warriors are known for alertness, they can’t afford to be careless! Christians, like warriors, must watch out for the enemy and his traps. His aim is to get them to slip into a sinful sleep like he did to Samson.

Samson was already spiritually asleep when he carelessly went into a relationship with the enemy. His spiritual sleep led to a natural sleep which then resulted into a premature death. Resist complacency because there is a great danger if you sleep off.

The lord expects you to keep awake so you can constantly, persuasively, lovingly and patiently teach, exhort and warn sinners as we await Christ’s imminent return. Don’t allow the gods of this world to lure you into a careless spiritual sleep that will make you insensitive to the need of the souls around you and to demands of the Lord.

Friend, are you sleeping spiritually, wake up! The lord calls you to wake up! Infact, you have slumbered and slept enough, you have been on vacation long enough. It is time to awake from slumber. May God give us the grace to be spiritually watchful in Jesus Name? Happy Sunday. Have a new week ahead.
