John 3:16 (amp)

For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

What is this eternal life that Our Lord Jesus promised those who believes on His Name?
Every human existing on the surface of this earth has life in him or her, if so be the case, what other kind of life was Jesus talking about? What differentiates it from the normal human life? Why is it given only to those whom believe in Jesus Christ? What are the benefits of having this life? Does this life displaces your human life or does it supplants it??
Having a detailed scriptural answer to this questions would enable us appreciate this life even more better.
Eternal life is the life of God. It is the life that makes God to be God. Just like every creature has it's on kind of life, God has His own and its called eternal life..

:For even as the Father has life in Himself and is self-existent, so He has given to the Son to have life in Himself and be self-existent
John 5:26

Eternal life is entirely different from the normal human life in that it is transcendental to the human life. The things that affect the human life doesn't affect eternal life. A man possessing eternal life can be regarded as a god because he is a son of the most high.

Psalm 82:6

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High

BENEFITS
Eternal life afford you the opportunity to have and enjoy the Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit in you, you are made for life.

Romans 8:11 declares >And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you.

Eternal life destroys all diseases, it sets you apart. Eternal life makes you an alien because people would wonder at the strange things you would be doing..
Many years ago when Ebola virus first erupted in Africa, this virus killed thousands without restrain or cure. It stunned the medical world. A great man of God named John G Lake came to the rescue.

John G Lake

It was said that the slightest contact with any secretion from someone infected was all it took for transmission. But this great man of God and his team used their bare hands, cleaning secretion and curing every victim they met and they brought an abrupt end to the spread of the ebola virus. Hallelujah! !!
The medical world asked him how he did it and he said, "I have the life of God in me, every virus that comes in contact with me dies. He then asked them to get an innoculum from an infected person, observe same under a microscope to determine viral activities in it.
When the medical practitioners had ascertain this fact, he asked them to put the innoculum on his palm and observe under a microscope. To their amazement, there were no more viral activities. All the virus died upon contact with him. Glory to God forever.
This is what eternal life does for you and the Good news is that every child of God has this life.
Remember Jesus said
John 16:17-18

And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages;
They will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well.

To receive this life is as easy as ABC. All you need do is believe and confess that Jesus is the Lord of your life. Romans 10:10

Say this prayer
Dear precious Father, I come to you in the Name of Jesus, I believe that Jesus died and was raised for my sake. I declare that Jesus is the Lord of my life as from today. I receive eternal life from you. I am saved and I am born again. I now have Christ dwelling in me. I am a new creation from henceforth. Hallelujah

If you said that prayer, rejoice cause Heaven rejoices with you too. Welcome to God's family.

That's really a terrible translation. To me, it shows contempt for the word of God to add to and modify it. For example,

(John 3:16 NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

There's no reason to add to it, to modify it, or have other words in parentheses. It shows contempt for the Bible and the God who gave it to us.
