"One day during the wheat harvest, Reuben found some mandrakes growing in a field and brought them to his mother, Leah. Rachel begged Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.” But Leah angrily replied, “Wasn’t it enough that you stole my husband? Now will you steal my son’s mandrakes, too?” Rachel answered, “I will let Jacob sleep with you tonight if you give me some of the mandrakes.” So that evening, as Jacob was coming home from the fields, Leah went out to meet him. “You must come and sleep with me tonight!” she said. “I have paid for you with some mandrakes that my son found.” So that night he slept with Leah. And God answered Leah’s prayers. She became pregnant again and gave birth to a fifth son for Jacob." (Genesis 30: 14 - 17, NLT - Emphasis mine)
Sometimes our desperation makes us accept shadows at the expense of the REAL THING. Many desperately receive a gold-plaited wood at the expense of a true silver. Satan always tries to mimic God's real things and presents such to the less discerning - Beware!.
Just for superstition sake, Rachael took mandrakes at the expense of a son.
I hope you are not desperate, in that you want to sacrifice God's blessing on the altar of fake stuffs? This is always a product of worry and despair. "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." (1 Peter 5: 7, NLT)
Prayer:May God open our eyes to see the realities of His promises that we may not settle for the glittering counterfeits.
I hope it blesses your day.
